    Your Part in ChangingThis World

God's Church has been commissioned to reach this entire worldwith a MESSAGE. His work is NOW starting around the world. It is vital that you understand YOUR job fully! What does thefuture hold for YOU?by Roderick C. Meredith

As MANY of you know, Mr. and.Ll.. Mrs. Armstrong, Dick Armstrongand I just recent ly returned fromEurope. What we found there has

stirred us to realize the scope of what liesahead for God's work and His chllich.Brethren, God has opened your eyesto see that He is nsing Mr. Armstrong- and this work-to proclaim His message to this dying world. God reveals thatYOlt must do yoar part in this work. You KNOW these things. God hasmade the fruits very evident that this isHis church-His ca lled-out peop le inthis last generat ion of the p resent age.And now you feel that you belong tothis church-God's cburch. But do you realize tha t God 's church

is a living, active, dynamic, growingspiritual organism-that it has a verydefinite job to do--and that anyone whois not doing his part in accomplishingthat work will soon be cn t of}. by GodHimself, from being a part of His truechurch?Do you realize the full extent andscope of the work Chris t gave to Hischurch in this age-end? Do you understand and are you busily and zcalonslvDOING yuur part in this work? -Or are you just "drifting," and perhaps just KIDDING YOURSEI.F that "all is

well" when, in reality, all is NOT well!Your Mission in Life

IF you are an act ive member of God'strue church-the only type of Chris tianwho will be spared in the coming tribulation-you have a solemn responsi-bil.'t) to do your u tmost to aid in furthering the mission of God's Church.Th is should be your who le PURPOSE inlife. It should he the thing that givesyour life meaning-and ties in yourdaily activities with the great PLAN Godis working Ou t here below.I beseech you as the apost le Paul said," to present your bodies a LIVING SACRIFICE, holy, acceptable unto God, whichis your reasonable service" (Romans12: I) .As Jesus said, if you seek to saue yourlife, you wi ll LOSE it. But if you loseyour l i fe- i f you GIVE your l ife to Godas a "liv ing sacrifice"-you will SAVE it(Mat. 16:25).Very few of you fully comprehendedthe full meaning of baptism when thisordinance was performed. But perhapsyou do realize that when you were baptized-going down, symbolically, into awatery grave-that this was to signifythe DEATH of your old self (Romans6: 3) - and that you acknowledged that

Jesus gave His life in your stead-Hebought and paid for YOUR wretched, sinful life with His perfect life.Your life does not belong to you anymore- i t belongs to Him. "For ye arebought with a pr ice: the re fore glorifyGod in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Cor. 6:20).

I f you will faithfully GIVE YOUR LIFEto God-becoming an active instrumentin whatever way He chooses to use you, then you will remain in God's churchand will be greatly rewarded whenChrist returns. But if you try to takeyour life-which now belongs to God -and use it for your own human desires, then you will quickly be pu t ont fromGod's true church (even though youmight remain physically a part of it forsome time), you wi ll be ota from underGod's protection, and you will sufferGod's wrath if you live until Christ'sreturn. This is SERIOUS BUSINESS!Your life is e irhe r given to God--oryou are on mighty dangerous ground!Your mission in life, then, is to study, pray, fast, and seek zealously in everyway to present your human body-andall of your talents-as a living sacrificein carrying Ou t God's work here onearth.

The Job AheadEvents in Europe are moving fasterthan most people realize. It is viral thatGod's message goes out very soon toFrance, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugaland other European countries before itis /0 0 late! Many of these countries are just "ripe"for the true gospel at this time. TheFrench are disil lusioned and disgustedwith the world and, in many ways, withthe Catholic church. So are the Italians--many of whom are Cathol ics in nameonly. Millions are turning to Communism as a desperate hope to solve theirtroubles. They are seeking for something. they need God's TRUTH!In West Germany, thousands of spiritually starved people recent ly turnedout to hear a popular evangelist of thisworld who denies the 1'111' of God. Burthese people were hU1Igry even forcrumbs of spiritual food. An overflowcrowd jam-packed every speaking place. Many German minds and hearts are stillopen to receive God's truth. They havenot been poisoned again with the drugof Nazi ideologies-not yet,In Spain, I found in talking to manyof the common people that countlessthousands of them arc fed up withthe superst it ion, the fear, and the corruption so prevalent in the church-statedictatorship which so rigidly controlstheir lives, They would welcome God'struth if He would open a door by whichwe could reach them. And IF we do ourpart, He will!Remember that the first commission

to all of us in God's church is to see thatthe trtte gospel is preached to all nationsas a u.iiness (Mat. 24: 14), After that, and secondary to it, we arc to feed tbeflock-teach and strengthen those inGod's church (John 21: 15-17).Think of the reJponsibility God hasplaced on each of our shoulders-forif we really belong to Christ and Hischurch; we must each do our part justas certa inly as Mr. Armstrong does his.Think of the nrillions and millions ofpeople we have not yet even begun toreach!

Not Much TimeConsider the amazing rapidity of Germany's posr-war recovery and the factthat we are now in the process of gr an ting her [nll so rcrciontv and her oumarmy. Notice the news releases aboutHitler's former Generals coming backiuro power Clnd the Llct that N ~ o N a z irallies are beginning to draw :1 hugefollowinu. Remember the fact Europe iscalled a "powder keg"-a place whereuprisings and w.irs start suddenly, unexpectedly.\Vhat docs it all mean)

Tbe GOOD NEWSSimply this-that we must reachmany of these nat ions in Europe withina very few years or it will be too late!Once this revival of the old churchstate Roman system takes place, it willbe impossible-humanly at least-toreach many of the European nations

with God's truth. God will see to it thatthese nations are reached. But as in thetime of the apostle Paul, the extent towhich they are reached and number ofpeople com-cried as chi ldren of God coming under His protection during terrible events to come-all this is affectedby the diligence and ZEAL with whichcrery one of It s does his pa n to furtherGod's work.Note God's warning about a timesoon to come: "The time is coming, saysthe Lord Eternal, when I will send a

FAMINE on the land, no famine ofbread, no drought of water, but OFHEARING THE WORD OF THE ETERNAL"(Amos 8: 11, Moffatd. That time will undoubtedly fall inEurope even before it does here inAmerica! We have to be BUSY doingGod 's work whi le it is still day-for thenight is drawing near.We MUST reach these nat ions in Europe Joan. These people are just as real

    - and they arc just as kiml and friendlyon the whole-as the people we all lovehere in America. And as we realizedwhen we met and baptized some inEngland last summer, once these peopleare truly converted and filled withGod's Holy Spiri t, they are as wonderfulas any peop le on earth. In the resurrection, they will be part of am jamilyGod's family,Gud help you to have real compnssionfor these people in Europe, and themillions of others throughout the worldthat we are to reach with God's message. Each of us can have a part in changingtheir ent ire l ives-and bringing theminto God's own family!

Your PartIn g iving yourself as a living sacrifice

to God, you have to carry ou t this "giving" of yourself to His service day byday. You will have to intelligentlyJ/miy and pray in order to have more ofthe mind of God, and the wisdom ofGod, in directing your life. You MUST keep your eye on the biggoal of the church as a whole--on get

ting the gospel to all nations as a "witness." You will have your own personalproblems and trials to overcome. Bureven these will be made easier if yourchief concern is not "self" -but thework of God,In I Corinthians 12, Paul explainsthat God gives to each one of us inHis church different gif ts and abilit ies,bu t it is God who is working througheach individual and that each part of the

November-December, i 9 ' ; ~ jjob God is doing is as important as anyother part.God divides spi ri tual g if ts to eachman as He wills (verse 11), but in ICor. 14: 1 we are told to desire spiriTUalgifts, Remember that God gives spiritualgifts according to our natural ability, soeach of us must strive to increase inwisdom, knowledge, and all around ability in order to be qualified for the greater gifts. Many of you brethren will find tha tyou should take fu rthe r schooling andtraining-perhaps a correspondencecourse-which will nor only prepare youto serve as a more effective "light" toothers now and for a h igher pos it ion inGod's kingdom-but will also result ina greater earning capacity, enabling youto live a fuller, more abundant life andalso to have much more to give to thework of God,You see, we are to become like Godin every possible way. That means wemust grow in lenoioledge, u.isdom, abiliIy, as well as in faith and love. God'sway not only makes US better able to

help in His work, but it also enables usto live a fuller, happier personal life.God 's way is always best! But brethren, take Jour p"rl to heart.Thi s work of God MUST expand rapidl)in the next very few years. To a greatextent, this growth depends on Jo!!rspiritual grouitb, your fervent prayen, and your tithes and generous ofJeringr.God knows this, and if you are Hisch ild ren you will know it too-and actaccordingly,Be sure you keep up with world news, and study abou t other nations. Obtaina good map, and familiarize yourselfwith them. After all, God has chosenyou to have a part in CHANGiNG thisworld! And as you learn about these nations,PRAY earnestly th at God will open upthe doors of truth so that we may reachthem with Christ's gospel. As many of you know, we need ministers to starr churches in England rightnow. But as in Jesus' time, "the harvesttruly is plenteous, but the laborers few"(Mat. 9:37). Ask God earnestly to provide more ministers of His choosing tocarry our this work. And lastly, be constant with God' stithe and your generous offerings. AskGod to help you employ your abilitiesso that you may give more to His work. And pray continually that God will callothers who are able to see His truth, and to bless His work at this time. Thismay be material wealth, belt it is tocarry ou t a spiritnal nzesrage-the lasthope of this dying world! It will buildup real, 1,1sting treasure in heaven.Does this sound like asking to O much?'roo MUCH?(Please continr: al l p,lge R)

S A J ~ V A T I O N is EDUCATIONModern education is failing to train young people adequately. Theprimary reason for this failure is that men have forgotten that thislife is a training period in which we are to learn to become like God.

    by Herman L. Hoeh

I T IS TIMF we unders tood the factsbehind the present educational sys-tem that grips the world. This world is sick! It is suffering from

.1 poison that is p.ir.rlyz ins; tilt" whole ufsociety. This poison attacks the mimi,of our children. The poi son is WRO,CEDI7CATlON!

\X/hat EDUCATION Really IsEducation is not merely gained Il1classrooms from books. C;ellllille cdnca-t ion includes much more-a l ifetime of

acquiring knowledge, of practi cal ex-perience and of travel.Proper education ought to be definedas the ART OF SUCCESSFUL LIVI:\G.By this definit ion very few are reallybecoming educated. Too few childrenarc being taught how to live. The pres-en t educational system is based upon amixture of truth and error . Let's understand ubv.The source of education is God! BurGod is not accepted in the schools. Theworld has forgotten what Solomon said:"The Eternal giveth wisdom: ou t of Hismouth cometh knowledge and understanding" (Pro. 2: G).

Every human being, as long as he isseparated from. God, can neve r becomefully educated, no matter how great hismaterial knowledge may be. Completeeducation involves SPJRITUAL VALUES.The truly educa ted per son becomesphysically, mentally and spiritually ma-tured. Since the natural mind, cur offf rom God , canno t discern spiritual val-ues, only those who are being conuerterlc.in become full), educnted.Conversion means a change of mind,a change of behavior. It is not accom-pl ished in a minute- i t is YOUR life-time study and work. I t is the educa-t ional process of growing to completematurity. Unless you arc improvingyourself in you r own home or on theJob, you not becoming convertedf1'0111 MAN into GOD.To convert anything means to changeir. \X'e arc to become convert ed intoGod' Now we are physical, carnal. Weare to become spi rir, horn into th e Godfamily. That means we are to beginto think , act, behave l ike God. We learnhow God thinks, acts and behaves fromthe Bible. The Bible is therefore ourbasic tcxtbooe. With the Scripture as abasis. God w.mrs us to .uk! to our fund

of knowledge wha tever man can dis-cover for himself.I don't think we fully grasp the greatmental and spiritual power of God -His ability and intelligence. I f we didwe would want to develop a great dealfaster than most of us are doing. Wewould become more zealous, more studi-ous. We would want to broaden omoutlook, to acquire interest in new fields. We would not let our minds stagnate. To pu t it h lunt ly, when compared toGod, some of you will only be moronsin the Kingdom of God-unless youbegin to apply yourselves. Is t ha t wha tyou want to becom.e? As a son of Goddo you want to disgrace your heavenlyFarhcr?Conversion is serious business. It isfar more important than the learn ing ofth e educational insti tu tions of this age.Now let us understand how faulty

education commenced and what youcan do about it.How Faulty Education Began

We are living in the climactic agewhen six thousand years of the wrongkind of education is finally bearing itsfruit. The present educational system isa COUNTERFEIT SCHEME of God 's p lanof conversion. It can readily be tracedto the events in the garden in Eden.Notice how Satan commenced hisscheme.God instructed Adam in right andwrong. God, then, was th e teacherthe Supreme Teacher. He imparted

KNOWLEDGE to the man-knowledgewhich the man was to act upon. Theman was to obey the instructions ofhis Teacher. Adam knew right fromwrong. He was NOT deceived. What didSatan do?Did he commence by rejec ting the

previous instruc tions of God? No! Hefirst planted doubt in the mind of thewoman. Then he pcnerted what Godsaid. He appealed to greed and vanity. He implied that God wanted manchained to ignorance. Here are Satan 'swords: "God doth know"-but He hasn'ttold you-He has concealed it from you--"that in the day ye cat thereof, thenyour eyes shall be opened (t o under-standing), and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3: S) .Observe that the devil promised manknowledge. God had g iven man the way

to knowledge, bu t die adversary offeredanother Wd) to acquire it. All man need-ed to do was to throw off the authorityof God's instruction. Man could solve hisown problems apart hom the Creator ,said the devil. This is the origin of today's educa-t ional system: It began by questioningGod's funct ion and prerog.uives . It be-

gan by hunching man on the road ofhuman search for understanding with-ou t God-the way that SCUllS rigbt tomaterial man, but which will end indestruction (Pro. IG: 25) .

Unlearning ErrorConversion involves the process of

unlearning as well as of learning. \Vehave to study and prove all things-tocheck into the ideas which we havetaken for granted. Let 's take note of theclassic example of Moses.Moses was r rainer] in Egyptian educa-tion for 40 years. Stephen said of him:"Moses was learned in all the wisdom ofthe Egyptians, and was mighty in wordsand in deeds" (Acts 7: 22 ) .Egypt possessed the wisdom of thisworld. So thorough had been his train-

ing that Moses had to undergo another40 years unlearning the errors which heacquir ed in Egypt. It was only when hehad unlearned those errors that Godused him and he became mighty inwords and in deeds. Moses didn't letdown in his studies-he made use ofhis previous training in Pharaoh's courtschools by directing his training into theright channels.Through Moses God communicated

His plan of education which the wor ldrejected at the beginning. God revealedto Moses and to Israel His perfect laws, together with an additional fund ofknowledge embodying the history ofman from Creation. To preserve thisPRICELESS heritage, God gave them threegreat principles.First: Parents are to train and in-struct their children. The neglect of thisobligation by parents and their fa ilureto teach this duty of pa renthood is theprimary cause of all world ills. Ttl in-sure education in the home God mademarriage UNBREAKABLE except bydeath. No ti ce t he Bible expos it ion ofthis principle: "Ye Judi teach ... yourchildren, speaking of (God's instruction)when thou sirresr down, and when thou

Are Animal Products good food?Should adults drink milk? Are animal products-especially mi l k -

    mucous-forming, and therefore harmful?by Herman L. Hoeh

D IET PLAYS a major role in maintaining good health. But in determining a proper diet, itseems tha t people swing from one extreme to another.I t is high t ime to wake up to the er rors of "health food fanatics" who thinkthemselves wiser than God.We have all come to realize thatmany commonly eaten foods are harmful to the body. However , let's not become unbalanced by rejecting foodsuihich God created to provide ItS with:,.tdiemt bealtb.Health Fanatics, Too!

In this health-conscious age, you hearexperts" voicing their opinion on dietand nutrition. Yet few people realize!hat these self-styled "informed" individuals arc often quite ullinformed-even completely ignorant of the tmthabout foods and sound nutri tion.Whenever people become consciousof a new truth, there will always be(hose who seek to profit by i t -by cor

rupting and perverting the truth to earn,1 l iving for themselves. This situationoccurred in apostolic days when the newtruth of the gospel was corrupted. Today, fake nutritionists and health lecturers clutter the laud wi th th ei r books, pamphlets and class lectures. It's timeto wake up to the errors f loat ing aboutand begin to prove ALL things. In the maze of "health" literature, scarcely a food commonly included in(he human diet has escaped condernna(ion. Besides the refined foocls-mostof which can be proved harmful-basicones such as salt, meat and milk havebeen accused of causing il l health. Andmany people have been led (0 feelconscience-stricken if they dared to eatthem. As an example, some contend thatcows' milk is nowhere mentioned as afood in the Bible-therefore not meantfor adults to drink. Others even go sohr as to say tha t nothing made fromcows' milk should be used.Let's find the TRUTH!

Paul's Warning fo r TODAY!The apostle Paul wrote a pertinent

warning for us today. Open your Bibles( 0 I Timothy 4: 1-5, "But the Spiri tsaith expressly, that in later seasons"that includes today-"some shall fallfrom the faith, giving heed to deceiv-

ing spiri ts and t eachings of demons,t hrough hypocrisy of lying speakers, their own conscience branded . . . commanding to abstain from meats"-theoriginal inspired Greek word means"foods" in general-"which God createdto be received with thanksgiving byt hem tha t believe and know the truth. . . nothing is to be rejected, if . . .it is sanctified through God's word."(Panin trans.)Notice, some fall from the faith byerring on matters of food and diet, byrejecting the Word of God! It is a dangerous matter to be wrong.I personally have attended a sufficicnt number of pub lie lectures onhealth to KNOW that some speakers aredeliberately misrepresenting facts. Theycrave a following. They have literatureto sell. One lecturer in Pasadena admitted he was a di rect instrumenrality ofthe evil one. He based his lectureon hidden knowledge he claimed he acquired by "partaking of the tree ofknoluledge of good and evil." This isexactly wha t has been occurring thesepast six thousand years-men think thatonly through experiencing various dietscan they know which foods are harmful .But this is NOT the right way to learn. For after all this time no two healthlecturers fully agree on proper foodhabits. Why can't we see that GOD'S WORDalone gives us the true principles ofdiet and nutrition? Now for a specific case. Should adultJdrink milk?

Cows' Milk in ScriptureFirst, you should understand that the

word "kine" is an old English expression for cows. Isaiah 7:22 and 23 provethat milk from cows (kine), as well asmilk from goats and sheep, was used.Open your Bibles to these verses: "Andit shall come to pass in that day, that aman shall nourish a young cow and two.rheep; and it shall come to pass forthe abundance of milk that they shallgive, he shall eat butter ... everyonethat is left in the land."Notice that because of the abundanceof milk that the stock give-s-especiallybecause cows provide such quanrities ofmilk-not all the milk can be drunkfresh; some wi ll be skimmed for butteror cheese. Here, certainly, is 110 condemnation of milk for adults.

From Genesis 18: 8 we learn thatAbraham served milk to his visitors. One of these visitors was the God ofIsrael-the One who became Jesus! Thisis the example of Jesus! Are we goingto follow it?When the Eternal called Canaan "aland flowing with milk and honey," Hewas referring to

That partof education you can obtain in yourown home through prayer and diligentstudy.God is training you during this lifeto enter the profession of being God.The functions of God are multitudinous, beyond our comprehension.God is perfect. He always makes theright decision, He is always fair, alwayskind. Jesus commanded liS to becomeperfect as our heavenly Father. This lifeis the moment in which to learn to uscthe time, the opportunities, the materialwealth we possess. We need to applyourselves on our jobs or in our homes. We need to study every part of theBible till we become familiar wi th it.This is no small task. If we handle thisresponsibility well-if we make use ofour opportunit ies just as Christ woulddo if He were here, then it will be saidof us: "He that is fai thful in that whichis least is f ,t ithf tt l also in much" (Lukc16:10).

Nowhere in Scripture do we find thatMary was assumed into heaven as its"Queen."Then what is the origin of the falsedoctrine that Mary is "Queen ofHeaven"?In Jeremiah 7: 18 God forbids theworship of the pagan "Queen of Heaven." God, the Father, is supreme King.He has no mortal woman as His Queen! The spreading doctrine that Mary is the

FROM OUR READERSfeeling by professing Christians ... asformer ly by pagans" (Hislop, p. 82).Christ, pictured constantly in Hismother's arms is shown to be less powerful than His mother! Here, then, wesee how, once again, a present form ofworship has originated from the sameold source-Babylon! What is the attitude of many churches today regardingthis? One Church holds that "IT IS NOT SOMUCH THE SEED OF WOMAN, AS THEWOMAN HEKSELF, THAT WAS TO BRUISETHE HEAD OF THE SERPENT. In defianceof all grammar she renders the Divinedenunciat ion against the serpent thus:'She shall bruise thy head, and thoushalt bruise her heel.' ""I t is well known that Semiramis wasworshipped by the Babylonians and other eastern nations as Rhea, the greatgoddes 'Mother.' It was from her son, however, that she really derived all herglury and claims to deification. That son.though represented as a child in hismother's arms, was a person of greats tature and immense bodily powers, aswell as mos t fascinating manners. InScripture he is referred to (Ezek. 8:14)under the name of Tammuz ... Nowwhile the mother derived her glory. . .from the divine character attributed tothe child in her arms, the mothe r in thelong run practically eclipsed the son'(Hislop, pp. 21,74-76,80).
