Christ in ColerainChrist in Colerain

What a great Lenten season culminating in Easter! It was a great day of celebration and I pray we all gleaned some insight on the STUFF in our lives and how it all fits in our journey of faith. We have great opportunities ahead of us to continue to grow as individuals and as a church and to reach more people for the glory of the Kingdom of God. We have been challenged by the Consultation Team to

pursue 5 prescriptions which will help Groesbeck UMC to more fully fulfill our mission in Knowing Christ and Making Him Known. Some of these prescriptions may take several years to fully implement while others will have already begun before you receive this newsletter. Remember we are all in this together as a team and that this will be a journey that will take time. We will make mistakes, but we will help one another, encourage one another and we will follow Jesus and if we stay focused, not on the peripheral stuff but on Christ, His Cross, His Resurrection and His Purpose, we will be fruitful for the Glory of God. Upon his departure Jesus reminded his disciples of this “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” In other words do not worry or fret about the future. We are blessed by the gift of the Holy Spirit which the church received on Pentecost and the Holy Spirit gives us power to do the will of God. We are called to be witnesses of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and our primary target are the lost of Colerain Township which we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of. Those early disciples faced the unknown. They had an uncertain future and they began the journey clearly, just a little frightened of what would come next, but they picked up steam and started to rock the world. Before long the Roman world had no idea what just hit them. We may be beginning this journey much the same way, uncertain and maybe even frightened, but hanging on once we pick up steam, we could just Rock the world and Colerain township may not even know what just hit them. You Groesbeck, are Christ in Colerain. Remember it, thank God for it, and then act like it. I for one am thankful to walk this journey with you.

Your fellow servant in Christ,

Pastor Dave

$$$$$$$$$$$ CHANGES IN OUR FINANCIALTEAM AND PROCESS $$$$$$$$$$$$

First, we have changed the financial software from the Shelby financial software to Church Windows financial soft-ware. One of the important reasons for this change is that it will allow much of the work to be accomplished off site by our volunteers in their own home. This is a different technology where our data is stored off site in a secure location and allows team members access only to the data that is required for them to do their assigned task. Secondly, we have added additional people to the process which spreads the workload and increases flexibility for cov-ering potential sickness or vacation needs. The new Team members include Barbara Hoover, Jim Bertram, Bob Hyde and Claude ‘Mac’ McPherson, who are joined by current members Brian Hafer, Wayne Fanta and Carolyn Whitaker. Bob serves as Team Leader and Brian serves as Treasurer, while Carolyn, Mac, Barbara, Jim and Wayne each have specific responsibilities within the financial system. We would like to say, thank you, to the dedicated volunteers that count and deposit the offerings and gifts that we receive during the week and on Sunday mornings, they do their work efficiently and well. We also need to acknowledge the eleven years of service that Rocky Bridges has provided as our Church Treasurer and the support he has provided during this time of transition.

“Thank you Rocky for your dedication and the great job you have done”.

Change for Missions will support the 2012 tornado victims in Kentucky and Indiana through UMCOR in May. UM Committee On Relief (UMCOR) responds to natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, major storms

and tornadoes. Through local UM churches and trained disaster response workers, UMCOR provides immediate relief, assistance with cleanup, rebuilding, pastoral counseling and support for children and youth who have been through trauma. The term "natural disaster" defines the scope of involvement in the United States for the UM Committee on Relief (UMCOR). The term refers to floods, earthquakes, storms, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, or other "acts of God" and under extraordinary circumstances could include an especially disastrous fire, explosion, transportation wreck, or other emergency in which persons are suddenly plunged into suffering and grief. The change you give in June will go to the Gideon Bible project. Tim Vehr, a local representative of Gideon's International has requested our help. He will speak at GUMC during both services on May 20th about his work. Bibles and New Testaments are personally distributed by members of The Gideon's International to these groups: Students in the 5th grade and above; Prisoners and police, fire, medical and military personnel; Anyone else Gideon's witness to individually. God's Word is placed in key locations, including: Hotels and motels; Hospitals, convalescent homes, medical offices and domestic violence shelters ; Prisons and jails..

For May we are collecting soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, or any non-perishable food item you’d like to donate. For June we will be collecting school supplies, pencils, spiral notebooks, index cards, pens, highlighters, college rule notebook paper, glue, colored pencils, markers, erasers scissors or other school supplies. NO CRAYONS PLEASE. Thank you so much for your continued support!! You can also help by picking up a yellow bag and filling it with the items listed. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. BROWN PAPER GROCERY BAGS ARE NEEDED!!

A big thank-you to the volunteers who helped serve lunch to the crafters at the March Kingdom Assignment Craft Show. Approximately 75 meals were served by the Youth and enjoyed by these visitors to our church. A note was received by the office from one of the crafters in appreciation of the kindness shown and the free lunch we served. This event has become a favorite in the community and, more importantly, an opportunity to minister to visitors. Thank you to Celine Ehrnschwender and Teresa Maher for providing this opportunity! * National Day of Prayer-May 3rd* ** There will be no K.I.A. in May ** On Sat., June 9th, we will return to our normal K.I.A. outreach schedule from 10am-12noon followed by lunch. We will be packing and distributing “300” doorknob bags for the Northgate Meadows Apartments. Lots of helping hands and able bodies will be needed to complete this task. So mark your calendar and experience some fun serving for Christ!! If you have any questions, please call Sharon Powers (923-3320) or Annette Murray (385-0116).

The organization we were working with will no longer be collecting items. So, as of May 1, 2012 the Fostering Hope Mission will end. Thank you for your generous donations over the past several years. Your generosity touched and helped many young foster children just starting out on their own. God bless everyone who contributed to this mission.

TWIN TOWERS... Offers you an opportunity to help in their mission! A state of the art health Pavilion is being built at Twin Towers Retirement Community to replace an outdated (1960) facility for those who need nursing skills in their daily lives. There will be eight residential style units. Each of these “household” units will have 15 private rooms with bath, clustered around a central area suited for living, dining, program-events, lounge and kitchenette for the use of the residents and their guests. Six of the clusters are for skilled nursing (90 rooms) and two are for memory support persons (20 rooms). This arrangement allows both private and communal living as required/desired. Most of the required funds (31 million) will come from the sale of tax exempt bonds. In addition Twin Towers is seeking to raise 2 million dollars in tax deductible gifts from individuals in a three-year campaign. I have lived at Twin Towers for seven years during which time my wife Bettye was in the present health center two times for a total of about 8 weeks. While her care in general was adequate it lacked much in the realm of comfort and ambience. Otherwise Twin Towers fulfilled our needs and desires in an exemplary manner; both the facilities and personnel are excellent. There are and have been many Groesbeckians residing here in addition to our former pastor and wife, the Dunhams and perhaps you also sometime in the future. Won’t you join with me in this project? For more information call me at 591-4860. I’ll see that your questions are answered by those who know. Herb Reller

On Sunday, March 27th over 200 of the Groesbeck UMC faithful gathered with our District Superintendent, the Rev. Brian Brown, for a Charge Conference to consider the prescriptions from our West Ohio Conference Consultation Team. Of the over 200 present, there were 179 voting members in attendance. After the vote was taken and counted, the results were a resounding affirmative to accept the prescriptions from the Consultation Team. Of the 179 votes cast; 166 members votes yes; 12 members voted no; and 1 member abstained. Of course you are probably asking what this means for you and the future of Groesbeck UMC. It means that many things will be happening in the near future, starting with the consecration of our new Breakthrough Leadership Team on April 29th. It also means that over the next three to four years there is going to be a lot of change at Groesbeck UMC. But hear this friends, BE ENCOURAGED! We both believe that these winds of change are indeed being ushered in by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the changes that are coming are going to uniquely position Groesbeck UMC to be a powerful witness for Christ in Colerain Township and throughout Cincinnati. But we cannot do any of this without YOU. Please be in prayer over the coming weeks and months that God would lead the new Breakthrough Leadership Team; that the Body of Christ at Groesbeck UMC would be empowered and renewed to reach the community for Christ; and that we as a church would be encouraged to develop mountain moving faith that can indeed change the world! In Christ, Pastors Dave & Benji

June 24 June 24 –– 29, 201229, 2012 Camp Wesley

Cost: $385 per person. Once again we will be taking our

Club 456 and Jr. High youth on a “Road Trip” to Camp Wesley!!!! This year we will be joined by Pas-tor Benji! We will leave together from the church right after 1st service for those of you needing a ride. For those traveling later – we will meet you there by 4pm. Deposit of $38 is due ASAP. We will again have fundraising activities/opportunities available to you and your child in order to pay for camp. Ask another parent whose child has attended in the past and you will find that it is possible to fundraise the majority of camp costs. Do not let cost be a deciding factor for sending your kid to camp – this is a tremendous ex-perience and we will raise the funds together.

As always, we will need adult volunteer camp coun-selors– talk to Dianna if you are interested. Please keep in mind though that you will not be assigned to a cabin with your child. Training is provided for you, along with room and board. It’s a fun experience – so pray about it and see where God may be leading you and your child.

Dear Sir or Maam, My name is Ellen. I would like to tell you how much I enjoyed your church today. The people who welcomed us were very helpful. I

particularly enjoyed the free ticket for door prizes. That is very unusual nowadays. There was a lady who used to be a soccer goalie who helped us get my 90 year old mother down the steps. The ladies at the door watched our bags for us. I was really impressed with the youth who offered us assistance at different times and the hard work and respect they exhibited as they delivered lunch meals. Please excuse the length, but so often someone does a kindness and it isn't recognized. I wanted to be sure and express how much I enjoyed your church today. Blessings Ellen Dear Friends, We thank you, our financial partners, for being generous with us and allowing us to touch the lives of so many women and families. We could not have this ministry were it not for you. Because of your support, clients like Qiana and her baby Braylen receive free pregnancy tests, parenting classes, material support and an opportunity to find the loving God that we serve. Thank you for assisting PCC as we continue to help these young women and their families. Good work with the Baby Bottles Groesbeck! Thanks! Psalm 23, Jeff Seibert, Gen. Mgr.

Dear Family and Friends of Groesbeck Church, A BIG thank you to everyone who supported "Micah's Mighty Monkey's" 2012 Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Team. Whether you ate at Bob Evans, gave and/or collected donations or attended and/or helped with the walk and luncheon, the overwhelming response deeply touched our hearts. At the Bob Evans event, we had 92 flyers turned into the Colerain location alone giving our team a benefit of $317. Overall, our team raised about $6000 for the local MDA. A very good result for our first effort and you helped make it happen! These funds will help continue valuable research as well as fund camps and medical needs for affected families. Every dollar donated helps bring us closer to the cure we are praying for. Please continue to lift Micah and all children with DMD in your prayers. Thank you again for your kindness and support. Sincerely, Kami & Matt Archibald (Micah's parents)

Karla & Jon Banning (grandparents)

We did not understand the "plate ministry" when we received the MESSAGE PLATES in the mail. After reading them and enjoying all of them, we sent them on to all of our grandchildren so that they might enjoy them also. Thank you, Lois & Tom Varland I would like to thank my church family, all of you who have been so good to Jeff and myself for so long. Your cards, calls and concerns, your hugs on Sunday morning and to our wonderful Plate Ministry who ever you are, you always seem to know when to send them. God Bless Everyone, I love you and need you in my life. Judy Marks

It was a beautiful day on April 7th the day of the “His Kids” Easter Eggstravaganza! We welcomed 67 chil-dren and their families to join us for a Flowering Cross Celebration! Julie Rodriguez read the story of “The Flowering Cross” to the kids and explained to them just exactly what Easter is all about. Then they had the opportunity to take a flower and decorate a cross made just for them! You may have noticed it on Easter Sun-day morning! There were games to be played, music to sing and a beautiful craft to be made to take home followed by our annual Easter egg hunt. All the kids appeared to have a fun time! Thank you to all of the parents, volunteers and anyone who donated items that helped to make this year’s celebration of Easter such a huge success. Dianna Sheely, Director of Children’s Ministry
