GRAND MARSHAL BOB JOHNSONFormer Auburn Fire Chief Bob Johnson started
his 22 year career in Auburn in May of 1983 after a long time term as chief in Tillamook, Oregon. His amazing career of helping and leading others spans 47 productive years. When asked why he became a firefighter, he gave a chuckle and then said that the printable version is that he was a volunteer firefighter in every community that he lived in. Based upon that experience, he decided that a career in firefighting was his calling.
Chief Bob has many accomplishments. He is a member of the Auburn Noon Lions and a long standing Santa’s helper for special circumstance children and has had many associations as part of his job. He was president of the Emergency Management Team and Director of Emergency Management for Auburn. Bob married Jessie in 1995 and they have a total of four kids and 13 grandchildren. They are now retired and traveling.
Bob brought the Auburn Fire Department together in a cohesive group when he arrived and was part of the Citizens committee to promote the transition to Valley Regional Fire Authority. According to Chief Bob, “It’s been a real honor serving the Auburn community and making some life long friends.”
PIONEER SPIRIT JOHN PECKENPAUGHJohn Peckenpaugh was born on July 24, 1926
and has lived in Auburn most of his life. His father opened the first Peckenpaugh and Manson Drug Store in 1921 at Auburn Avenue (A St SW) and Main Street. In about 1935 the Peckenpaugh Drug Store moved onto Main Street. In the 60’s Peckenpaugh Drug moved to its current location at Main Street and M Street SE.
John was a past member of the Auburn Downtown Kiwanis. He recalls the fun that he had with the livestock show that they put on in the 1960s. “We had a lot of fun back then.” he reminisced. The days of Gene Kasper as Auburn Chamber of Commerce manager and John’s stint as Auburn Chamber President made for some serious business and some seriously fun adventures.
AUBURN DAYS PIONEER QUEEN MARJORIE GORDON
Marge Gordon and her husband, Darrel, have lived in Auburn for 33 years. Marge, a retired RN, worked for many years at the Auburn office of the Seattle-King County Health Department.
Her colorful past occupations include painting instructor, art gallery owner, volunteer ambulance attendant, school nurse, nursing instructor, inspirational speaker and newsletter editor. Queen Marge is also a published author.
Marge has worked actively on many election campaigns to help good citizens of Auburn. For the past seven years Marge has organized and coordinated Auburn’s National Day of Prayer event.

Auburn Days Official Program [5]August 2, 2013
Auburn Days – a popular annual event for the past 100 years in the downtown area – returns Aug. 9-11.
The event brings together residents of all ages to the center of Auburn – the historic Main Street downtown. The steering committee and 60 event sponsors are inviting Auburn residents and surrounding communities to the three-day event to celebration the city’s life, music, love and laughter through musicians, authors, poets, artists, athletes and future leaders.
“This is serious fun,” said Connie Henke, festival director, “from the Friday night Stampede Fun Run and Barbecue to the grand parade, and the Good Ol’ Show and Shine Classic Car Show. We know there is something for everyone at Auburn Days.”
Attendees are encouraged to park at the Transit Center parking garage.
