Dear Parents/Carers Thank you to everyone who attended the Poetry Competition on Wednesday, 21st June 2017 for EYFS and KS1 children. The standard was high and all finalists performed with confidence and enthusiasm. The compares for the event were Hollie and Rebekah from Year 6 and they were very professional delivering their lines with humorous and enthusiasm. Mrs Whitmarsh and Mrs King had the difficult task of judging the entries and they were complimentary of all children performing. After careful consideration the following children were chosen as winners: Nursery: Kimberley, Jevon, Anthony, Angela, Mitchell & Kelvin Reception: Nathanael, Christina, Joseph & Amelia Year 1: Isabella, Emmanuella, Akin Year 2 Louisa, Kosisochi, Saphir, David, Julia, Lifejoy, Joshua, Damario, Romaric & Jason Do have a look at the pictures of all entrants in this newsletter. SUPPORTING OTHERS - GRENFELL TOWER FIRE We regularly support charities and local community projects as it is part of our ethos and it helps children to understand that they can make a difference to the world around them. The children have talked about the recent tragic events in West London where many lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower block fire. Together we agreed that as a school we would like to raise money to send to those who have been affected by the fire. We will be holding a cake sale next week and ask if you could kindly bake cakes or send some in to sell on Friday, 30th June during and after school. A letter will be sent out this week with further details. LOCAL COMMUNITY DANCE PROJECT - (Dance with Grace) Some of you will know the Please add the name of the venue and address which is currently being renovated for use as a dance school for adults and children from the local and wider community. Mandy and Jo came to our Friday Assembly to talk to the children about helping to raise money to support this project. Some of our children already attend the dance school and all our pupils expressed an interest in being involved in the future. To support their fundraising the children thought it would be a good idea to hold a mufti day on Friday, 23rd June 2017 and bring in £1 (or any contribution ) We all agreed that supporting people is an important part of our school life and we can all make a difference in a variety of ways. Thank you in anticipation for your generosity. CROYDON SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP - Monday, 19th - Wednesday, 21st June 2017 Good luck to all the children who have been selected to represent Good Shepherd in the above event. Thank you to all of them for giving up their time after school and to their parents and carers for supporting them. We wish them good luck and know they will represent us with great sportsmanship. Each term I will set a whole school homework task for all pupils to complete. Your child will be brining home the task on Friday and

it will focus on seven greatest inventions over time. These are:

The television, mobile phone, steam power, Antibiotics, concrete, jet engine and a fridge

Children will be asked to decide which invention they think is the most important and explain why. They can present their ideas in a

leaflet, poster or a persuasive piece of writing. The idea is to involve you as parents/carers so that you can research the inventions

together. The focus will be on discussion and research with the final outcome focusing on writing. Prizes will be awarded to the

pupils in each year group who have worked hard and put in the effort to produce a good piece of work. So please look out for the

homework THIS WEEK. Children will have two weeks to complete the task.

Father Con’s reflection

Friday of this week is the feast of the SACRED HEART OF JESUS.

(The month of June is known as the month of the Sacred Heart)

The image or picture of the Sacred Heart is very well known. It depicts the Heart, outwardly displayed with thorns. It points out God’s great love for His people —evidenced by Jesus’ willingness to go to the cross for our salvation.

Many Catholics have this image displayed for the protection of their homes.

Let us keep this image uppermost in our hearts and minds always. May we always respond in love to God who loved us first.
