GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 25, 2015

Message from Monsignor René Mathieu: (1) Don’t forget the special music and dancing fundraiser this

Saturday evening, October 24, at Most Holy Trinity Church Hall

to benefit youth who wish to attend World Youth Day in Poland. (2) Priesthood Sunday is a special day set aside to honor priesthood in

the United States. Traditionally scheduled for the fourth Sunday of

October, it is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood

in the life of the Church as a central one. To mark the occasion, seminarian Alex

Boucher will speak this weekend at the three Masses at St. Joseph Church and at

St. Philip Church (on Sunday morning). (3) On Monday, October 26, work is scheduled

to begin re-finishing the front central doors of St. Joseph Church. This routine

maintenance may take up to a week; the doors cannot be used during that time. Soon

after, new side doors will be installed at the front of the church. (4) As announced

previously, EWTN television host Susan Conroy will return to Most Holy Trinity

Church on Friday evening, October 30, to offer a slide presentation concerning her experiences with Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. (5) All are welcome to the annual

Harvest Fair at St. Philip Church Hall next Saturday and Sunday, October 31/

November 1. This is a popular event, and I encourage parishioners to drop by. There

will be penny raffle tables, crafts and baked goods. (6) I am pleased to announce that

Norman Belanger, who usually worships at St. Philip, has been appointed by Bishop

Deeley to serve on the Diocesan Finance Council. Norman has served as chair of the

Good Shepherd Parish finance council since we merged into a single parish. Before

that, he was a member of our cluster committee. (7) This year, the Solemnity of

All Saints falls on a Sunday. On Monday, November 2, we will celebrate the annual

All Souls Day evening prayer at Most Holy Trinity Church to pray for our deceased

family and friends, especially those who died during the past year. (8) On Tuesday, November 3, a Mass will be celebrated to mark the 12th Anniversary of our

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in Saco. The Mass will be led by Fr. Ron

Labarre at Most Holy Trinity Church, beginning at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments and

fellowship will follow. (9) Divorce & Beyond is a four-week program for men and

women who are divorced or have filed for divorce. The program will begin on

Wednesday, November 4, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish on

150 Black Point Road in Scarborough. The other dates are November 11 & 18 and December 2. For more information or to register, contact Kathy Sparda at 207-883-1742

or [email protected]; or Mary Lou Smith, the program’s facilitator,

at 207-883-2211 or [email protected]. (10) Thank You of the Week: to parishioners

who, throughout the summer months, shared vegetables and berries from their gardens

with the priests at the rectory, including homemade goodies made from fresh fruits and

vegetables. Thank you!

JOKES PRIESTS CAN TELL, Vol. 6 - Msgr. Tonne: Three-year-old Paul loved to learn Christmas carols. He came home from Sunday

school and asked his parents to sing “Silent Night” over and over again.

Puzzled by his fascination with the song, they listened carefully as he sang,

‘Silent night, holy night, Paul is calm, Paul is bright.’”

Nothing like turning leaves and a chill in the air to bring to mind the warmth of home and promise of a turkey dinner. The comforts of home are also on the minds of dozens of Thornton's international stu-dents hoping to spend their Thanksgiving vacation with an American family. So as

your family begins to prepare for the upcoming holiday, please consi- der inviting 1 or 2 to share this special time with you. Both student & family are often enriched by the cultural exchange and special friend-ships that develop during these vacation stays.

Please note: Thanksgiving vacation begins Tues., Nov. 24, & ends Sun., Nov. 29, and anyone who decides to take part will be provided with a small stipend to offset the cost of hosting. If you would like to participate in Thornton Academy's Vacation Family Program and open your home to a student or 2 during Thanksgiving break, contact Jade Elliott, 602.4457; [email protected].
