Google Analytics used to complement DSpace statistics
Concerns over DSpace statistics DSpace stats tended to break on us SOLR stats put a lot of pressure on our server
2 datasets which didn’t quite match
Google analytics does not automatically count downloads
February 2015 – Decided to solely use Google analytics
April 2015 – Go Live

Challenges
Google Analytics are usually only viewable by authorised account holders
Difficult to capture downloads directly from google.

Where to start
There is so much information that it can be confusing
Basic information – Referrals, Geographic etc can be shown in dashboards

Steep learning curve
Large Amount of data and the different permutations availablemean it can be confusing
It is very easy to get lost
Not Intuitive
Language used can be difficult to understand(Acquisition)
Incomplete Data
Repositories without an Opt in/Opt out cookie notice will not get full data
If people click “No” to cookies than their data can’t be collected.
Not all information is as you want it
We only have download data from April 2015
Why would you do that?
Google Analytics has an automatic reporting feature
Ability to provide reports based on both the downloads & the other information in Google analytics
Download information adds a he amount of value to the Google analytics
