We hope that your holiday was enjoyable. Once again we have hit the ground running so as to speak! The Kindergarten Early Bird Program commenced on Monday of this week. Next year’s Kindergarten children are given the opportunity to visit the Kindergarten classrooms and to become familiar with the school seƫng helping to make coming to “big school” next year a less daunƟng experience. Kindergarten enrolments for next year are very posiƟve so if you haven’t enrolled your Kindergarten child or know of someone who hasn’t enrolled their child please tell them to do so to assist school planning for 2019. A big thank you to everyone involved with the Early Bird program where the future generaƟon of Gordon West children and parents are welcomed to our school. During the vacaƟon work commenced on the renovaƟon to the tennis court but unfortunately was held up due to the inclement weather. Hopefully the work will be completed by the end of next week. The tennis court upgrade has been the main FRASC fund raising project for the year and we are all looking forward to having this very important project completed. During the vacaƟon Salvatore Castelnuovo (Sam) was also very busy coordinaƟng playground refurbishments with the planƟng of the oval bank now completed and all trees pruned. Although the rainy weather may not have been conducive to a happy holiday it was certainly welcomed at the school where new turf was laid and the grounds aerated and ferƟlized. It is amazing the dierence signicant rain and vacaƟons can have on maintaining our school grounds. The school looks a picture. Mrs Ryan our Relieving Deputy Principal presented a very comprehensive overview of our 2018 Naplan results prior to the monthly meeƟng of the Gordon West Parents and CiƟzens last Monday evening. It was a very informaƟve meeƟng with a large number of parents in aƩendance. As stated at the meeƟng please contact your child’s teacher if you have any quesƟons relaƟng to Naplan results or any aspect of your child’s educaƟon. The Naplan presentaƟon was followed by the very informaƟve Gordon West P and C meeƟng where we engage in very interesƟng discussions pertaining to the organisaƟon and operaƟon of our school. Dates to Remember

Welcome back to the final term for 2018. We hope that your holiday was enjoyable. Once again we have hit the ground running so as to speak!

The Kindergarten Early Bird Program commenced on Monday of this week. Next year’s Kindergarten children are given the opportunity to visit the Kindergarten classrooms and to become familiar with the school se ng helping to make coming to “big school” next year a less daun ng experience. Kindergarten enrolments for next year are very posi ve so if you haven’t enrolled your Kindergarten child or know of someone who hasn’t enrolled their child please tell them to do so to assist school planning for 2019. A big thank you to everyone involved with the Early Bird program where the future genera on of Gordon West children and parents are welcomed to our school.  During the vaca on work commenced on the renova on to the tennis court but unfortunately was held up due to the

inclement weather. Hopefully the work will be completed by the end of next week. The tennis court upgrade has been the main FRASC fund raising project for the year and we are all looking forward to having this very important project completed.  During the vaca on Salvatore Castelnuovo (Sam) was also very busy coordina ng playground refurbishments with the plan ng of the oval bank now completed and all trees pruned. Although the rainy weather may not have been conducive to a happy holiday it was certainly welcomed at the school where new turf was laid and the grounds aerated and fer lized. It is amazing the difference significant rain and vaca ons can have on maintaining our school grounds.  The school looks a picture.  Mrs Ryan our Relieving Deputy Principal presented a very comprehensive overview of our 2018 Naplan results prior to the monthly mee ng of the Gordon West Parents and Ci zens last Monday evening. It was a very informa ve mee ng with a large number of parents in a endance. As stated at the mee ng please contact your child’s teacher if you have any ques ons rela ng to Naplan results or any aspect of your child’s educa on.  The Naplan presenta on was followed by the very informa ve Gordon West P and C mee ng where we engage in very interes ng discussions pertaining to the organisa on and opera on of our school. Numbers in a endance at these mee ngs

aren’t representa ve of the size of the school. However we understand the demands of a modern society and believe that if any parent had an issue to have clarified they would contact the school or their respec ve parent body representa ves. One parent in a endance stated that she had 21 engagements in her diary before Christmas which is indica ve of how busy we are.  A significant number of parents took the opportunity to a end the regular morning prac ce sessions of Concert Band 1, Concert Band 2 and Training Band this week. This showcased a normal prac ce session giving parents a greater understanding of what happens at these regular prac ce sessions. The children rose to the occasion and performed at their personal best. Our Band program has gone from strength to strength and will be entertaining the school and parent community on a number of occasions between now and the end of the year.  Bike riding is a wonderful ac vity and Julia and I ride most weekends. In fact our bikes remain permanently in my car. We encourage children to take up this beau ful, enjoyable ac vity.  However bike riding isn’t permi ed in the school ground no ma er how appealing it may be. The safety of children a ending Gordon West Public School is paramount and once again we have had another “near miss” involving a child and a bike.

We have also had a child terrified by a large dog that was let off the leash by a well inten oned but unaware parent. Once again dogs are not allowed in the playground and surprising as it may seem to dog lovers, not everyone appreciates dogs. Some people are terrified of them. We thank you for your coopera on in abiding by these rules for the safety of our school community. As stated previously it is an incredibly busy term and we

wish all the best to everyone involved in all of the end of

year ac vi es.
