The afternoon was an overwhelming success with the theatre booked out. The movie Despicable Me 3 had something for all ages with the youngest members of the audience enthralled by the wonderful non stop animations while those a little older could relate to the storyline and certainly enjoy the music. My wife Julia and I love attending such movies that we wouldn’t normally attend other than on occasions such as this. These events bring the school community together and help create a sense of good spirit and enjoyment at the school. A very concerned parent reported to the school of a near miss at the school crossing adjacent to Pee Wee Park before school on Tuesday of this week. She was greatly concerned about the safety of students at the crossing. My recommendation was to photograph the offending vehicle and report the incident to council rangers on 9424 0888. The school recommends the same response for people who park their cars illegally in the vicinity of the school. We have zero tolerance of any actions that could endanger the safety of students of Gordon West. Parents are reminded that there are heavy fines associated with such inappropriate behaviour. Our Senior Dance group under the choreography of Miss Hortense and Miss Knox performed at Glen Street Theatre on a number of occasions this week. I enjoyed the performance on Wednesday night. A big thank you to all parents and teachers involved in the preparation for this wonderful performance opportunity. The Senior Dance Group will perform at our annual Showcase later in Term 3 By popular demand the Gordon West Parents and Citizens’ Association has organised an Interrelate presentation for Monday 24 July 2017 in the school hall. Please refer to the enclosed flyer for specific program information.

A big thank you to Melissa O’Halloran (Annabelle Year 5) and (Lillian Year 2) for organising the Gordon West Annual Movie afternoon held at the Event Cinema Macquarie Centre last Saturday afternoon. Interrelate is a specialist organisation with over 90 years’ experience teaching sexuality and relationship education in NSW schools. Interrelate educators are highly trained, skilful presenters. In the past this presentation has been organised every second year. However because of increased demand we now propose to make this a yearly event.

Parents are encouraged to read the enclosed FRASC article outlining proposed changes to the method of catering at our Year 3/6 Athletics Carnival to be held at Bannockburn Oval during the first week of Term 3. Given that FRASC is faced with ever declining offers of parental assistance the organisation has responded following the lead of the canteen by offering online ordering facilities. A commercial coffee cart will also be available for parents only on the day of the carnival.

The Gordon West Half yearly Reporting / Interview Process for 2017 for the most part has been completed. Early in Term 3 Miss Harper and Mrs Sheldon from the School Reporting and Evaluation Committee will be seeking your opinion in relation to the Semester 1 reporting process. SurveyMonkey will provide parents the opportunity to inform the school as to how effective individual families have found the reporting/ interview process. Please take time to complete the survey as your feedback is essential to ensure our reporting processes are valid and reflect parent opinions. All SurveyMonkey comments are anonymous unless parents choose to identify themselves. Some parents request a personal response to a comment or question which we are happy to oblige. SurveyMonkey summaries are discussed with representatives of the Gordon West Parents and Citizens’ Association and then tabled at the Parents and Citizens’ meetings. Parents are reminded that they may contact their child’s teacher at any time during the school year to discuss any issues arising. Please don’t wait until the designated reporting period to get in touch with your child’s teacher should you have concerns. Once again thank you for your support over the past term. Gordon West continues to be a dynamic centre of learning where our wonderful teachers work together to provide excellent opportunities for the children of our school community, supported by a very active parent body, in a happy, friendly environment. School resumes for teachers on Monday 17 July with children returning the following day on Tuesday 18 July 2017. We thank you for your support of our School Development Day on Monday 17 July. Finally, a big thank you to Mrs Sarah Daniels for her wonderful contribution to Gordon West Public School over the past 6 years. We wish the Daniel’s family all the best with their new venture on the Central Coast. J Huckerby Principal

Fay, Huilin & Saatu farewelling Mrs Sarah Daniels.

Enrolments are now being accepted for 2018 Kindergarten students. If you have a younger child starting school next year or know of any families with children starting in 2018 please collect your enrolment forms from the school office. These forms, along with identity documents, immunisation records and proof of address should then be submitted so that we can commence the enrolment process. Invitations to Information Evening and Orientation Days will be sent out to all those enrolled early next term. Thanking you

SRC Report On the 13th, 14th and 15th of June the SRC held a fundraiser in support of the

Humour Foundation. As part of this fundraiser, we had a lolly guessing

competition and clown face painting. It was a very successful event where we

raised a total of $422.05. A huge thank you to all who contributed and

congratulations to Clarrisa S-D who had the closest guess and won the lolly jar.

The winning number was 596.
