    Chapter LXVI: The First Elites

This is the first time we're having breakfast together in a while, said Tiffany,

picking up the spoon provided to her and smiling softly at Jin from across the table.Jin returned the smile. Our families used to have breakfast together all the time. It's a new school year, said Tiffany, making up a quick excuse. In the back of her

head, she knew the exact reason why Jin didn't have time to see her anymore. We're bothso busy with work.

College apps for you in particular, said Jin, nodding in understanding.I'm not too fond of essays either. You're a math person. President of the Math Club and everything.Touched that Jin remembered, Tiffany muttered, If I can solve a couple of math

problems on those college apps instead.I know, said Jin, amused. I'll fail though.

You should try harder then.Jin blinked. You're right. I should.Thinking that she upset Jin, Tiffany added quickly, If you want to though.I do, said Jin insistently. I'm going to study and do my homework more often this

upcoming week. I actually know how to manage my video game time now.Tiffany tossed Jin a proud look. Even though she tried many ways to stop his video

game addiction, nothing had worked so far. What made him change his mind? Could it bethat his girlfriend was the reason why he was past this addiction? Tiffany hesitated to givethe other girl so much credit. Speaking of Jezebelle...

Where is Jezebelle Tilly anyways? asked Tiffany, trying to make the question soundlike a passing comment instead.

Get this, said Jin, sitting up straight in his chair. I got up this morning and noticedthat my wallet disappeared. I thought I misplaced it for a second. Tiffany lifted a brow. Then, I found one of those advertisements about a huge sale this weekend on top of herbed.

She went shopping with yourmoney? asked Tiffany in disbelief.Jin scratched the back of his head. Yeah...She's not allowed to do that, Jin, said Tiffany sternly, unable to soften her voice

even for Jin. You should say something to her. She can't just take your things withoutasking. You know that's not right.

I thought about it, said Jin, returning his attention to his breakfast. And I realizedthat if she were to ask, I would have drove her and buy her anything she wants anyways.

Tiffany shook her head. There's really no point in getting mad at her for something I wouldhave done for her anyways.

Stealing is still wrong Jin.Jin gave Tiffany a warm smile. Thank you so much for looking out for me, Tiffany.Blushing, Tiffany muttered, That's what neighbors do.About Fi, said Jin, stirring his soup. Once she's home, I'll talk to her about it. If

she wants to borrow the car or my wallet, she should ask me first. That's not really the problem...What is the problem then? asked Jin innocently.

Never mind, said Tiffany, uneasy with the direct question. You're right.I heard from Jennifer in first period yesterday that she left the Asian Gossip Girls. At the mention of Jennifer, Tiffany lowered her eyes. She did.It must be hard for you, Tiffany, said Jin with a sad look on his face. I'm sorry. It's better this way, said Tiffany firmly without even a hint of emotion on her face.

I was going to disband the Asian Gossip Girls after my graduation anyways. This way, I have

a real reason to destroy it for good since Eunice can't handle all the responsibilities on herown.Jin gaped at Tiffany. You're really going to disband it?It has been my intention since last year. But, said Jin with an incredulous look on his face. Wilson High without you guys

isn't Wilson High anymore. Every school has something special that represents the school.Jin paused and shook his head. That's how important you guys are to our school.

Jin, said Tiffany, interrupting him. Jin gave her his full attention now. Did youknow that it's my job as the leader to recruit freshman and sophomore girls to form thenext generation of the Asian Gossip Girls after I'm gone?

Oh yeah, said Jin, remembering. The Asian Gossip Girls had like five girls at one

point. This year, there's only three of you guys left. That makes sense.I did that on purpose.Did what on purpose?Tiffany smiled weakly. I didn't recruit new girls on purpose so, Tiffany released a

sad laugh. Jennifer leaving early doesn't make a difference. I've always wanted this stupidgroup to disappear... this burden of being an Asian Gossip Girl to stop once and for all.

Why? asked Jin, upset. If you were my boyfriend, said Tiffany, blushing furiously at her own words. Jin

didn't notice though since he was so caught up in her words. Would you want to date a girlwho had to run around and research on your fellow classmates? Would you like it if shewere to spread rumors and write data about your best friend or even you?

Yes.At his reply, Tiffany lifted her eyes and gawked at Jin. What?I wouldn't mind one bit, said Jin tenderly. Because if my girlfriend is an Asian

Gossip Girl, I would fully support and respect her responsibilities. Tiffany's eyes widened. If I can't even do that, I don't deserve her.

********************************************************In the middle of junior high, Tiffany was forced to move away from all her friends

and transfer to a new school. Her father was laid off from the company he was working forten years. It took time but eventually he found a new job elsewhere and he took his entirefamily with him. Even though Tiffany hated the idea of moving, Tiffany didn't say anythingbecause there was no use arguing with her parents. They were always right.

You're always so serious Tiffany, said one of her junior high friends. How are youever going to warm up to people and make new friends?

Her friend's words stung her on the ride to her new home. Once she arrived however, she occupied her time by unloading everything from the moving truck. She was only twelveback then. A second year in junior high. To Tiffany, it was the worst time to transfer.Everyone already knew everyone else. Was there any room for her?

Luckily for her, it didn't take long for Tiffany to meet someone new at this strangeenvironment. At the sight of her carrying her belongings, a dark-haired boy slightly shorterthan her went up to her and helped her. Tiffany was surprised at the enthusiasm of this

stranger. Who was he?Welcome, said the boy with a pretty face.Who are you? asked Tiffany, almost too solemnly for her own ears.He grinned at her though. I'm sorry. I should introduce myself first. I'm Jin-Kyong

Song from next door. He heaved the box higher against his body. It's been a while sincewe had real neighbors. This house has been out for rent for years now.

I mean, said Tiffany, confused. Why are you helping me?I like to, said Jin, smiling brightly.Tiffany blushed. You're so strange.Rin-chan tells me that all the time...Admittedly for Tiffany, it wasn't love at first sight. This neighbor was too strange for

her taste. She had never met a boy who was so willing to help people. He helped her carryfurniture inside. He offered water bottles to her randomly. He even bought her lunch for noreason sometimes. Most importantly, he was extremely polite to her parents.

That boy's very mature for his age, said Mrs. Wu to Tiffany at the dinner table oneday. I can't believe he's one year younger than you.

Tiffany was used to her mother comparing her to everyone else. However, this was

the first time her mother compared her to someone of the opposite gender and of youngerage too. Usually, she was up against her female cousins and friends of the same age. Thistime though, she was losing to this boy who was too good to be true. Tiffany was suspicious. There was no way someone this nice existed. He wanted something. What could it be?

Like Tiffany expected, she was no good at making friends at school. She was new. They all knew each other already. One semester was over. They didn't know what to makeof her since she had a natural serious face and personality. Since she knew this was going tohappen, Tiffany wasn't bothered too much about it. She could last one and a half yearwithout making friends. This way, she could concentrate on her studies instead.

As for Jin, he was popular. Tiffany should have known that people wouldautomatically attach to him. He was nice, simple, understanding, and handsome. Whenever

anyone needed help, he was the first one to volunteer. Although he was only a freshman, itseemed like he was friends with the upperclassmen too. They all fondly called him JinSong or Jin Jin. Instead, Tiffany stayed away from him. She didn't want to be likeeveryone else and she didn't want to talk to him just because he was her neighbor.

Soon enough, Tiffany was forced to carpool with Jin much to her dismay. Her motherwould drive them both to school while Jin's mother would drive them back. In the car, Jinmerrily chatted with her while he played his Gameboy. Thanks to Jin, Tiffany decided thatvideo games were the root of all evil. She didn't like anything related to Jin.

Eventually, a couple of people approached her and talked to her. She didn't realizehow lonely she was until these classmates became friendly with her. Soon enough, one ofthem slip up. The reason why they wanted to talk to her was because they knew she and

Jin were part of the same carpool. Angry, Tiffany refused to become friends with them. Why? asked Tiffany one day in the car. Jin was minding his own business that day

until she spoke up. Why you?Yes Tiffany?Tiffany held her tears back. Why do I need yourhelp to make friends?Speechless at first, Jin lowered his voice, I'm... sorry.Feeling guilty, Tiffany left the car in a hurry once it stopped and ran in her room to

cry. She didn't like showing her emotion in front of people. She would rather cry and moanto herself in the comforts of her room. Why did he have to use that tone of voice on her?

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek l Xvi

    4/20

That pitiful, sad tone? Thanks to that, she sounded like the bad guy, accusing him ofsomething wrong when it wasn't his fault in the first place.

I'll ignore him from now on, thought Tiffany to herself by the end of the day. He'stoo good to be true. He steals any possible friend away from me. He's just trouble ingeneral.

After a month of loneliness, Tiffany made a friend in math class. Her class discovered

that she was excellent at math so they came to her for help often. One nutrition, Tiffanywith her new best friend sat down at one of the tables to eat. Jin happened to be nearby sohe came over to greet Tiffany out of politeness.

When asked who he was to Tiffany, Jin answered honestly, I'm her neighbor.I don't know you, said Tiffany automatically and coldly. You must have mistaken

me for someone else.Instead of getting mad at her like Tiffany expected, Jin blinked and said, Oh. Shoot.

Sorry for that.Like last time, Tiffany felt guilty for rejecting Jin like that. He didn't do anything

wrong but she couldn't admit that they were neighbors to her first friend since the move.He was younger than her. He was shorter than her. He wasn't as smart as she. Socially, they

shouldn't even be able to talk in the first place. She felt that she had a reason to prejudiceagainst him in front of her friend. But by the end of the day when they were in the same car together and Jin treated

her the same as always, Tiffany understood why she said those words. She never mindedthat he was shorter, younger, or prettier than her. The reason why she said those wordswere because she was jealous. She had always been jealous of his ability to be friendly witheverybody around him and to remain happy no matter what. When he told her friend thathe was her neighbor, she was afraid... to lose her friend to him once again. Jin was just toolikable and she couldn't compete with him.

That day, Jin walked her to her house even though she didn't ask him to. She didn'tsay anything to him throughout the car ride since she felt so bad about denying their

relationship. Even when she knew why, she couldn't speak up. At last, when he told her tohave a nice day and headed home, she chased after him. She had to ask. She must. Why are you always so nice to me? To everybody? asked Tiffany once she caught up

to him.Jin stared at her like she had a mustache on her face. I don't understand...Frustrated, Tiffany continued, What do you gain from being like this? Why don't you

say anything when I deliberately ignore you?You ignored me?Tiffany sighed. What is the matter with you? Can't you say no to people when they

ask you to do something for them? Why must you do everything for everyone?I do it because, said Jin, scratching the back of his head in thought. I like

people. That's all there is to it? asked Tiffany in dismay.Yeah. I think so.Letting Jin go home, Tiffany thought about what he said. Why was his reasoning so

simple? She couldn't believe it either. Kids were so cruel back in elementary school. Theywould pick on her because she was slightly taller than the other girls for her age. Herparents would compare her to everyone else. They would tell her what to do and not to do.They controlled her lives and criticized her all the time. People around her were mean anduntrustworthy. That was why she didn't really trust people. Yet, Jin was the complete

opposite and it bugged her.A few weeks later, Mrs. Song was unable to pick them up from school due to illness.

On the car ride home, it was the first time Tiffany saw Jin physically upset aboutsomething. He always seemed so mellow and happy all the time that she was surprised atthis side of him. Once they let him off, he hurried to his house to check up on his mother.

You should go visit Mrs. Song, said Tiffany's mother in an irritably voice at her. For

shame. She's like a second mother to you.Biting her lip, Tiffany refrained from arguing and went over to Jin's house right afterdinner to visit Jin's mother. Since the entire house was quiet, Tiffany didn't make muchnoise after Mr. Song let her inside. Once she found the master bedroom, she was surprisedat the sight that awaited her. Jin was sitting by his mother's side, wetting her cloth now andagain and placing it on her head. He didn't move an inch from his seat as he tend to her.Though Tiffany never got along with her parents, she was touched at what Jin was doing forhis sick mother. She would have never done the same.

When Jin got up and out to get her another cup of water, Jin greeted Tiffany at thedoor, Hello Tiffany. When did you get here?

A second ago, said Tiffany quickly. I'm here to see Mrs. Song.

Thanks, said Jin gratefully. I'm making honey lemonade. I'll be up in a second.Watching Mrs. Song for Jin, Tiffany thought about why she was here exactly. Didn'tshe decide that she would ignore him? Didn't she decide that she disliked him? Why was itthat she couldn't hate him no matter how much she tried? She even felt guilty whenever shedid something wrong to him. She felt jealousy around him all the time.

But didn't all these emotions stem from her wanting to be more like him?Jin, said Tiffany firmly once Jin was in the room. What's up Tiffany? asked Jin, trying to sound cheerful.I'm sorry for doubting you, said Tiffany honestly, thinking about how she used to

believe he was a fake. I'm also sorry for ignoring you in school.Oh, it's fine, said Jin, sitting down next to his mother. I don't mind at all.

I do, said Tiffany sadly. Because Jin... really... you're my first friend here. With a heartwarming smile, Jin gave up his chair to Tiffany as they both tend to hismother for the rest of the day. After that day and after Tiffany got past her Jin being nicewas only an act phrase, she began to have feelings for him. She didn't know exactly whatkind of love she had for Jin. All she knew was that with time she fell for him. There wasjust something about Jin that grew on people with time and Tiffany was living proof of that.

**************************************************The Asian Gossip Girls have been founded for a long time now, said Tiffany at the

end of their breakfast. But we weren't always called that.I had no idea, said Jin with wide eyes. I always assumed that...Most people assume that, said Tiffany in an understanding tone. It went from like

Caucasian Gossip Girls... Tall Gossip Girls... Pretty Gossip Girls... and much more. The firstgroup was founded by the original Elites too.

The original Elites? asked Jin in awe. So the Elites have been around for a whiletoo?

For as long as the Gossip Girls. That's so cool, said Jin, amazed. I knew the Gossip Girls have been around for a

long time. I thought the Elites only started recently. No, said Tiffany, shaking her head. Though the Elites weren't what they used to

be... at least, not the first Elites.

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek l Xvi

    6/20

What's the difference? The first Elites consisted of four Caucasian, intelligent, athletic, and rich boys and

their leader, said Tiffany, frowning. Or at least, that's the story that's been passed down. Now, as you may already know, the Elites are just a group of the top seeds of our school.

That's like being a jock and a nerd in one, said Jin, finding it hard to believe. Iguess it's hard to find an exact group of boys like the first Elites.

It is.Instead, it's split into many different fractions now, said Jin, shaking his head. Iwonder what the school system was like back then.

Different without the Gossip Girls of course, said Tiffany, responding to Jin'scomment. Then, it became our system with the founding of the Gossip Girls. One of themembers of the Elites did it for a reason.

Interesting, said Jin, thinking. I wonder what that reason is.I'm not sure, but after what happened with you Jin, said Tiffany, peering up at

him. Maybe it has to do with giving anyone a chance to be at the top of the food chain. The person who thought of the Gossip Girls probably thought that if only jocks could be ontop, school would be boring so wouldn't it be better if the Gossip Girls were around to help

other people jump ahead? That's my guess at least. That person must have been very clever, said Jin, nodding. With the Gossip Girlsaround, rumors spread quickly and the entire school become one unity who know eachother well. Everyone knows what everyone else is doing too.

We have phone numbers and home addresses of the student population too, saidTiffany, adding her bit quickly. For a small fee, you can find out where anyone lives orcontact anyone really.

Jin frowned. It's like the Gossip Girls are made so students have no privacy...It does seem that way, said Tiffany in agreement. It's probably intended.I can't imagine our school without this system though.Looking at the empty bowl in front of her, Tiffany muttered, But all the benefits

come at the sacrifice of the girls within that group. Tiffany thought about Jennifer andEunice with a frown. And sometimes, changes need to be made to improve the school andeveryone in it. The Elites back then thought the founding of this group was a good changeand now I believe otherwise.

At Tiffany's words, Jin thought about how he thought the same when he talked toBailey and Joseph Cruz about Jordan. He remembered how passionate he was to becomepopular so that Jordan didn't have to suffer. Now, Jordan was interacting with Rin outside ofschool. He was talking to people he never did before like Sandara. He even received a B onhis last Calculus test. Jin was a firm believer in change and Tiffany knew more about theGossip Girls than he did. Who was he to question her?

You're right, Tiffany, said Jin at last, surprising Tiffany. If you believe disbanding

the Asian Gossip Girls is the right thing to do, then I support you a hundred percent. I don'tmind not knowing a couple of people's address and for rumors to spread slower.

Tiffany tossed Jin a grateful look. Thanks Jin.I'm just happy you trust me enough to tell me the story about the founding of the

Gossip Girls, said Jin with a friendly smile. It's fascinating how long this has been goingon. Usually, groups only last until graduation.

There's one more thing I didn't tell you.Yes?The Gossip Girls don't actually spread rumors about everyone, said Tiffany, clasping

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek l Xvi

    7/20

her fingers together. Thanks to the first Elites, we're not actually supposed to spreadanything about... the current Elites. They're off limits.

The Elites, said Jin, thinking. Penny, George, Lionard, Arav, Michael, and Heatherright? Tiffany nodded in amazement at Jin's memory. You're right. I never hear anythingabout them. Plus, they keep to themselves mostly, making themselves exclusive fromeveryone else.

Tiffany glanced away. I wonder if this is a form of protection...Our school does shut down if we fail to have the minimum test scores. But does six individuals' scores actually make a difference?Jin tilted his head. I'm not sure...I wonder, said Tiffany, frowning. Jin copied her and frowned too. There's more to

my group than meets the eyes. And to think, I joined this group as a form of desperation tomake immediate friends. Tiffany laughed it off. I really wish I can talk to the originalElites and know what the hell they're thinking. It'll make things so much easier.

Does it matter? asked Jin innocently. You're disbanding it anyways.Yeah... said Tiffany sadly as if she was saying farewell to a close friend. True...

    ************************************************

Cracking her knuckles and arching her back, Wendy readied herself, All my trainingup til now will be useful for this moment!Grab everything in sight, Wendy dear, said Jezebelle, smirking.Got it, Leader, said Wendy, taking in a deep breath. Here goes! The two girl shoved their way through the crowds of older women to the clearance

section of the female floor of the department store. Jezebelle and Wendy grabbedeverything that looked plausible. The whole floor was packed and they had to use theirstrength and speed to snatch on sale clothes before the other experienced women aroundthem. At last, both of them staggered out of the mass and went down the escalatortogether.

We're going to the dressing rooms in the men section, said Jezebelle, smirking.

Wendy nodded. Good thinking. It's practically empty there.Look at that, said Jezebelle, peeking at one of the skirts in her arms. It's one sizetoo big for me. Jezebelle dropped it in Wendy's pile. You can have it Wendy.

Wendy scowled. Can you make it any more blatantly obvious that I'm fatter thanyou? Jezebelle had the most innocent expression on her face. Wendy sighed. I don't care.I'm pretty sure I can beat you in arm wrestling and that's what counts.

Sure, said Jezebelle, stepping off the escalator before Wendy. Look at that. Themen floor is indeed empty.

There's still a line in front of the dressing room though, said Wendy, groaning atthe five women in line.

A couple of women are smart like us, said Jezebelle, giggling to herself. At least

it's not that horrendous line up there.Amen, said Wendy, nodding. It won't be too long of a wait, said Jezebelle, standing behind the last woman in

line. Not if we're creative.Creative?Did you hear about that one dressing room that open up on the third floor? asked

Jezebelle to Wendy excitedly. Wendy stared at her blankly in which Jezebelle gasped inreply. Oops.

With that, four out of the five women left their places in line. Jezebelle giggled at

what happened and noticed that one of the dressing rooms open up for the lady in front ofthem. Once she was gone, Jezebelle smirked at Wendy, who sighed and muttered somethingabout how cunning Jezebelle could be. In little to no time, the line behind them increased.

Oh shit.At the deep voice, Jezebelle and Wendy turned their heads around at the same time

to meet the gray eyes of a curly-haired boy around their age. He blinked twice at them and

then scurried off away. The rest of the women also muttered among themselves about theboy that was in line with them.A high school boy shopping for clothes, said Jezebelle, amused. Quite a sight.A member of the Elites no less, said Wendy, laughing.Jezebelle gawked at Wendy. He's a member of the Elites?Yup. Lionard Levine aka President of the Jewish Club and anything music-related.Why didn't you say so earlier? cried Jezebelle in dismay. Why didn't you stop him

from leaving? How am I supposed to know you're interested in him?Jezebelle rolled her eyes. I've been interested in trying to find a way for the Elites

and the Pimp Juice to get along. Of course, I'll be interested in the members of the Elites

since you're on the look out with the Pimp Juice group. That's all I'm useful for? asked Wendy in disbelief.More than the other two right? asked Jezebelle sweetly.Wendy waved it off. If it's so important to you, you should go find him and talk to

him yourself.Clothes or school domination, said Jezebelle, staring at her clothes with sad eyes.Oh my fucking God, said Wendy, grabbing Jezebelle's pile of clothes and adding it

to her own. I'll keep yours safely. Hurry before you lose sight of him!I'm changing into them later.I know. I'll sit here for as long as you want! Just fucking go already!Such a nice sidekick, said Jezebelle under her breath as she searched the mall for

the sight of Lionard. It feels like that day all over again... Jezebelle stopped and noticedshe was in the middle of the floor by herself. It's a good thing I never get lost. After wandering around the floor, Jezebelle finally spotted the boy she was looking

for. He was standing in front of one of the clearance sections of the men floor. He was theonly boy on the floor. The rest were older women with either their husbands or sons.Jezebelle watched him from afar as he calculated the price of all the clothes he wascarrying in his head.

Nerds really are scary people, said Jezebelle to herself. With the excess cash, said Lionard, checking his wallet and snapping his fingers. I

can buy something extra for myself. After Lionard paid for his bag of clothes, he went to the bottom floor by going down

the escalator. Jezebelle followed him from afar so he wouldn't notice her. Much to hersurprise, he stopped at weird places she didn't expect him to. He stopped at the jewelrysection. He stopped at the bag section. He even stopped at the shoe section. Even thoughJezebelle couldn't hear him that well, she could tell from his body language that he wasrefraining himself from buying anything unnecessary.

Maybe I should go to a fabric store instead, said Lionard, rethinking. This boy is not normal, thought Jezebelle, watching him from behind the sock

area. He goes shopping by himself... in one of the biggest clearance sales this year... onthe right day at the right time... and on purpose too. Jezebelle noticed him touching some

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek l Xvi

    9/20

stuffed animals fondly. And he likes fabric and plushies. Aren't nerds supposed to be intobooks instead? What is with this kid? I can't predict him.

Even when Lionard left the department store, Jezebelle followed him at a safedistance. In her head, she remembered what Jordan and Kirk told her from a while ago. TheElites were made of six members, four males and two females. The leader andvaledictorian Penny Cinnamon was going out with her obedient number two seed George

Clemmens. There were two that liked to bicker with one another since one was a Democratand the other was a stubborn Republican. They were not this kid. Then, there was thatIndian Science President and...

The sixth and loudest member of the group, said Jezebelle, knowing his position inthe group now. Maybe it's best to start off easy with this group.

Walking through the mall, Lionard stopped by several suspicious stores in Jezebelle'sopinion. He stopped by the Hello Kitty store, the toy store, the bath and body store, thejewelry stores, the accessory store, and lastly, the music box store. He appears to becomparing prices and taking his time scanning through on-sale materials. Jezebelle couldtell from the way he went about the stores that he was an experienced shopper unlike mostboys she knew.

That's pretty, said Lionard, staring at a dress in the display window.Jezebelle smirked at the sight. I'm beginning to get this.************************************************

The Jap Ship is here! said Nathan, beaming.A disgruntled Rin collapsed into the nearest chair next to Nathan the minute she

entered the room. Kristian entered in a more refine manner and dropped off a bag of junkfood for Nathan. While the white male ate through a bag of potato chips, Rin ran through aquestions from the SAT test she took this morning with Kristian.

I remember back in the days when I had to worry about that, said Nathan, amused.Rin tossed Nathan a glance. I have to get a better score than Kristian. You took the SAT too Kristian? asked Nathan curiously.

Second time, said Kristian proudly. What did you get the first time? asked Nathan, biting half of the chip in his hand.Since you asked...We don't need to know, said Rin in interruption since she already knew it. Kristian

shrugged it off and went in the back room. I failed my SAT. I'm sure of it, Nathan.Everyone is in a bad mood today, said Nathan, shaking his head.Wait. Who?Edwin's been a dick lately, said Nathan, throwing the empty potato chip bag into

the trashcan next to him. More so than usual. To think, I thought I got used to his moodswings but this week proved me wrong.

Nathan, said Rin in a solemn tone. Does he hate me hate me?

He hates your guts.Rin glanced away. It's not my problem anyway. And then there's Faith. What's wrong with Faith? asked Rin with wide eyes.I like the favoritism going on here, said Nathan, sitting back in his chair. Before Rin

could argue that, Nathan caught sight of Faith outside and held his hand up high. HeyFaith! What's cooking?

You, said Faith, passing by Nathan without giving him a high five. Nathan cringedand muttered 'ouch' to himself. I'm sorry I'm late, everyone.

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek l Xvi

    10/20

Not as late as someone, said Rin, rolling her eyes. You look awful, Faith, said Nathan, getting off his chair and following Faith around

the room. Are you PMSing or something?Faith stopped and glanced over his shoulder at Nathan once before he continued with

assembling the drums. Right when Faith was done with his preparations in silence, Kristiancame out of the room and watched as Nathan repeated his earlier comment. However,

Faith simply ignored him and went on about his way. At last, Faith made a quick excuse andleft the room altogether. Now that is abnormal, said Nathan, massaging his shoulder.Him not beating you up is abnormal? asked Kristian, amused.Right on, Kristian, said Nathan, making guns out of his fingers.I'll talk to him, said Rin voluntarily, leaving the room without another word. And she doesn't do that for the rest of us, said Kristian, lifting his brow. It's a girl thing to help other girls out in time of need, said Nathan, snickering to

himself at his clever remark. However, he suddenly lowered his eyes. It's not the samewithout Faith's reaction.

What's up with him? asked Kristian, grabbing a seat and sitting backwards on it.

Some girl problems. That's always the case with most guys isn't it? asked Kristian, shrugging.Nathan frowned. Does that mean Faith is lesbian though? It doesn't really work that way Nathan. How does it work then?Right then, Edwin walked in with his case over his shoulder. He noticed Nathan and

Kristian staring right at him. Edwin scowled, dropped off his bass case, and went inside theback room. Curious at the sight, Kristian thought it was better to let this one go as he wentover to the piano. Nathan took this opportunity to sneak into the back room with Edwin.

Fuck Rin Hamada, said Nathan, grinning broadly at Edwin. She's just anothergirl.

Forget Sophronia Stevens then, said Edwin in retort. You have no chance there. It's not the same, said Nathan arguably. Sophronia's single. Rin Hamada's taken. That's exactly the problem, said Edwin in an irritated voice. Why can't she not be

with someone? Why is she suddenly giving in and letting Kristian fuck around with her?Nathan lifted a brow. What happen between you and Rin Hamada last Saturday

anyway? Now I'm curious.Remain curious then.Everyone's so cold to me around here, said Nathan, pretending to sob to himself. The two became silent when Kristian entered the room to announce that Rin and

Faith were back so they should all start now. Kristian noticed immediately their reactions, but kept his comments to himself. The SAT test he took earlier this morning made him

pretty mellow for the rest of the day so it felt like nothing could bother him. Quickly, Edwingrabbed his music sheets and left the room in a hurry. Left behind, Nathan asked Kristianabout how he did on this morning.

As easy as last time, said Kristian, smirking. Though I did leave some answersblank for Rin-chan's sake.

You purposely didn't answer some questions so you can get a lower score than her?Something like that.Nathan was in awe. I don't know what to say. It's admirable, though if she knows

    about it...

She'll kill me for sure, said Kristian, licking his lips. And challenge me again. It must be fun having a rival for a girlfriend, said Nathan, thinking about Edwin.Kristian smirked. It's fun but hard work.Hard work? asked Nathan, surprised. They left the room together. I thought

relationships are supposed to be fun, not work. They are, said Kristian, glancing in Rin's direction once. If you're not committed.

***********************************************************Dressed in a white uniform, Sandara carried a stack of papers in the middle of thehospital elevator. She was heading up to one of the higher floors but it took longer thannecessary because the elevator kept stopping at every other floor. Much to her surprise, shemet a familiar face on one of those stops. Jordan and his instructor stepped in the elevatornext to Sandara.

Now, I know you're stalking me for sure, said Sandara, tossing Jordan a smile.I thought you work for USC, said Jordan, returning the gesture.I actually work at four different hospitals.Jordan lifted a brow. You've been around. It's good practice, said Sandara calmly, staring at the glowing numbers in front of

them. You're volunteering at this hospital too?Starting next week, said Jordan proudly, watching for his floor as well. Theelevator made another abrupt stop. I need to get my uniform and badge first.

There are a handful of Wilson High students here.Jordan nodded. Thanks for telling me that. You're not afraid?I've been replaced remember? You sure give up easily, said Sandara, staring straight at Jordan.Jordan shrugged. I never wanted to be popular anyway. It just happened overnight.Last year, said Sandara with a softer look on her face. I would never imagine us

volunteering at the same hospital for me, nevertheless talking like this.

It's a miracle isn't it? asked Jordan under his breath, thinking about Jin.The elevator door opened to Sandara's floor as she took a few steps forward and said,Do be careful though, Jordan. It's not like you've never been in the spotlight. Once you'rein it once, there's a chance you'll be suck into it again.

I'll keep that in mind. After Sandara left, Jordan felt heavy at heart. He wanted more than anything to be

done with this tour, eat lunch, and see Jin for the weekend. They had arranged earlier toplay video games at Jin's house since one, both of them were free and two, Jezebelle wasout shopping. Jin was going to teach Jordan a thing or two about his hobby at last. AlthoughJordan didn't care for video games, he cared for Jin and his interests so he was going to tryto learn more about Jin.

Once Jordan learned about all the important rooms of the hospital, he went back tothe volunteer room where he was supposed to sign in every weekend. He went inside andmet another familiar face, except this time she wasn't as pleased to see him. Actually, shenever looked happy to see him in the first place. Penny Cinnamon was always like this.

I avoided talking to you for two years, said Penny, heading to the cafeteria withJordan with a scowl on her face. And now I've talked to you two days in a row. The worldis coming to an end.

The apocalypse indeed, said Jordan in agreement. He pocketed his hands in hispants. I find you at a hospital of all places. Nerds really have no social life.

    12/20

Your point? asked Penny, almost snarling at him.Jordan shrugged. I say that with as much affection as possible. Is that a synonymous slang for menace nowadays? At her humorless tone, Jordan continued on another topic, You will stop bothering

Rin Hamada right?Penny turned a wary eye on him. You shouldn't have grabbed my arm like that on

Friday. The horror.I was in a hurry, said Jordan in confession. I hope no one saw us.Even if someone did see us together, said Penny, wrapping her arms in front of her

chest and holding her head up high. No one will say anything.Because they'll die thanks to the telepathy waves of indignation you're emitting?Penny frowned. No, because the Asian Gossip Girls are not allowed to spread rumors

about the Elites.I know lots of things but I didn't know that, said Jordan, shocked. It's not a secret but, said Penny, shrugging. Most people don't know about it.Just for going through high school without having rumors spread about you, said

Jordan enviously. I'll give up my social life for that.

You wish, said Penny, shaking her head. I've had rumors spread about me infreshman through junior year. The Elites is a senior-only group.Wait, said Jordan, stopping in his tracks. It is, isn't it?Top seed information is only available to seniors, said Penny in a tone that clearly

marked Jordan as ignorant. Even I knew that when I was a junior.Jordan frowned. Doesn't that mean the Elites will change next year?Obviously. What if the top seeds don't want to be in the same group? asked Jordan, frowning.

Doesn't everyone have their own circles of friends from freshman to senior year?Penny suppressed a laugh. If you're picked to be part of the Elites, you're not stupid

enough to turn down a chance to be a part of it. No intellectual will give up the privileges

and rights the Elites have. Then, said Jordan with wide eyes. Ri-chan, I mean, Rin Hamada won't need toworry about rumors next year then?

If she agrees to be part of the Elites, yes, said Penny, stopping in front of thecafeteria door.

Jordan opened the door. I see.Or even qualified in the first place. What do you mean? Her grades are already slipping, said Penny confidently, entering the cafeteria

before Jordan. Jordan lifted a brow, believing Penny's words since she and the rest of theElites knew their way around these kinds of things. I might not bother Rin Hamada

anymore about her and that boy but she should know better than to give up anything for ahigh school romance. It's illogical.

Is this why you and the rest of the Elites keep bothering her? asked Jordan, frowning. Because she might not quality to become the Leader of the Elites next year?

Penny snorted. That, and her boyfriend's an eyesore.I can't believe it, said Jordan, sighing. Our school system really is as complicated

as I imagine it to be. The food chain. The Asian Gossip Girl. And now this. There really is alot more going in the background.

    Obviously.

    13/20

But why did you tell me all this? asked Jordan in disbelief.Penny twisted her lips into a smirk. So you know exactly why jocks and nerds should

never get along. Before Jordan could ask Penny to clarify what she meant, Sandara came up to them

and greeted both of them. Penny greeted Sandara back before she went further in thecafeteria to buy her lunch. As for Jordan, he stood there and thought over what exactly was

in store for Rin. Did she have any idea? Did she even know about this ahead of time? You and Penny Cinnamon, said Sandara, amused. That's a rare sight. We're not friends or anything.Of course not, said Sandara, standing in line next to Jordan with their trays. She

absolutely loathes you. I can tell.I know she does, said Jordan, shrugging it off. I'm used to it.She's really not a bad person you know, said Sandara thoughtfully. She is pretty

annoying and I dislike how elitist she can be but she's also pitiful as well.Pitiful? She literally has no life, said Sandara, shaking her head. She spends every minute

of her life, doing everything possible to have the perfect profile for Ivy Leagues school.

Jordan frowned. She's not kidding when she says things like she only has time to see herboyfriend one hour a week. That is probably the only free time she has on her schedule. So she gets into Harvard... then what? asked Jordan, surprising Sandara with his

question. She'll have no life there too. Once she's done with graduate school and enter theworkforce, she'll do everything she can to be perfect there too. She'll never have a life andnever know what it's like to have one.

Hopefully, it's not that drastic, said Sandara, picking up some fruits.I know what it's like, said Jordan to himself. What it's like to be someone you're

not just because everyone expects that of you. Jordan turned his eyes on Sandara. Haveyou ever thought about how Penny is simply playing the role of a valedictorian because thatis the role she needs to play in order to remain the leader of the Elites?

Sandara shook her head. No, though it does sound like roles I play in Drama.Psychology says that people play many roles every day, said Jordan quietly tohimself. Because it is absolutely necessary to get by in life. Jordan placed his tray downand looked up at the menu for his order. But is that role really worth playing when it hurtsyour life that much?

Sandara gawked at the other boy. Jordan...At the lunch tables afterward, Jordan and Sandara shared one. Sandara asked Penny

to sit with them but the other girl refused to and sat alone nearby. Frowning at first,Sandara shook it off and started on her taco salad. Jordan had tuna sandwich instead.

Jordan, maybe you should ask her, said Sandara, tossing a glance at Penny. Foryourself.

Jordan sighed. She won't tell me even if I ask her.Yeah, you're right, said Sandara, picking up her fork again. She'll probably murder me if I tell her Harvard's not worth it if she can't have any

fun at all, said Jordan, shrugging. She'll probably laugh at me for even suggesting thatpeople should have fun in high school.

Some people are like that, said Sandara defensively. They think so far ahead thatthey don't see the present right in front of them.

What about you? asked Jordan curiously, gaining her complete attention. Why thepractice? Why four hospitals?

    14/20

I want to be a pediatrician one day, said Sandara softly to herself.Jordan smiled at her. You like children?I do. I really do.Is that the only reason though? asked Jordan, widening his smile.Actually, no, said Sandara, chewing her food before continuing. It's sad to think

that there are not a lot of Hispanics in the medical field. Jordan nodded in agreement.

And even rarer, a Hispanic woman. You want to show the world that even a Hispanic woman can become a successfulpediatrician then?

Sandara beamed. Exactly, more so because I was taught that us women in myculture are nothing more than reproduction machines. Sandara had a sad expression onher face now. I hate it when I see Hispanic women at home with so many children to takecare of. I don't want to be like that. I want to make use of my talents and personality out inthe work force to represent us Hispanic women.

That's wonderful, Sandara, said Jordan fondly. What about you? asked Sandara, turning on Jordan. What's your dream?I'm not one hundred percent sure, but, said Jordan with a sweet smile. I'll try to

get into USC, graduate after I'm done, work for a bit before I can become a schoolcounselor since, Jordan laughed. There's no way I'll be able to get a job right out ofschool. Most people don't know how tough it is that first year in the work force.

I heard from my father, said Sandara, trying to sound helpful.Jordan continued, After I make enough money from being a school counselor, I'll

marry Victoria and start a family and yeah, Jordan laughed. That's my plan for now.You really love that girlfriend of yours, don't you?I like her but I don't love her, said Jordan honestly, causing Sandara to lift her

brow. She's actually doing quite well for herself these days. She'll probably grow to be anindependent woman who can work for herself and will forget I even existed but it's fine. I'llleave her that option at least. I want to do something for her.

That's sweet of you, said Sandara, finishing up her lunch. Though you shouldn'thave told me that. I don't think I want to go out with you anymore. Not even lunch tomorrow? asked Jordan in an innocent voice. On second thought, said Sandara, standing up abruptly. I'll think about it.I'll take that as a yes.Sandara puffed her cheeks and smirked. Don't be disappointed if I don't show up.After she tossed Jordan one last smile and went over to the counter to drop off her

tray, Penny went up to her and did the same with her tray. The two girls greeted each otheronce more before Penny coughed and lifted a curious brow at Sandara. At Penny's unspokenquestion, Sandara laughed softly to herself.

I don't know why, said Sandara, smiling weakly at Penny. Whenever I talk to him, I

just want to hug and comfort him. He seems like such a sad, lost puppy who needs someoneto take care of him.

I can't believe you fall for such tricks, said Penny, annoyed.Sandara shrugged it off. I don't know why either.

**************************************************Sitting in the classroom by herself, Eunice arranged the photos on the school

computer when someone knocked on the door before letting herself in. Eunice beamed andhopped on her chair at the sight of Tiffany. Earlier, Eunice received a phone call from herfriend that Tiffany wanted to help out with her photography work. Ever since Jennifer left

the group, she hadn't spoken a word to either of them so Eunice felt closer to Tiffany thesepast few days.

It's only been a month of school and look at all those pictures you've taken, saidTiffany, looking through a picture slide show on the computer.

I take more than the yearbook will ever need, said Eunice proudly, organizing someprinted photograph in their respective folders. I've decided on my course of action in

regards to my parents.Tiffany removed her eyes from the computer. And that is?Kristian told me that passion is good but, said Eunice with a loving expression on

her face. A person can't be set and inflexible in just that one goal and forget everythingelse around them.

Must you bring him up? asked Tiffany, irritated.Eunice clasped her hands together. That's why I've decided. I'll work hard like my

parents want me to. I'll work to the best of my abilities and apply to the universities theywant me to. But, Eunice had a determined look on her face. Depending on whether I getin or not, I might end up going to photography school instead.

So you're not limiting yourself to one option.

Yes, said Eunice, bobbing her head. Exactly.Even though I gave you a lot of advice, said Tiffany in a hurt voice. You came tothis conclusion because of him?

Eunice tilted her head. Tiffy? Why? asked Tiffany in a desperate tone. Why him? How can you be so stupid? What do you mean Tiffy?I mean, said Tiffany, impatient. If he were to tell you to give up everything to be

with him, would you do something so idiotic? Why do you have to listen and do what hetells you to do?

He didn't tell me to do anything...Tiffany gripped Eunice's shoulders and shook them. Wake up Eunice. Why can't you

understand that you shouldn't like someone like him?Tiffy, said Eunice, hesitant. I've been thinking...About?Eunice frowned, regretting her decision to say this already. Whenever you tell me

that I'm being stupid for liking Kristian... Eunice gulped. Is it for me or for you?Tiffany's eyes widened. What?Never mind, said Eunice, removing Tiffany's hands from her shoulder. No, say it, said Tiffany, upset now. I need to know. What are you trying to say

Eunice?I don't know, said Eunice shyly, blushing slightly. Sometimes, whenever you tell

either Jenny or I to like or not like someone, it feels like you're doing it for yourself. You

hate Kristian so you expect us to do the same. You love Jin so you expect us to do thesame. Eunice shook her head frantically. No, forget what I just said.

Say it, said Tiffany, lowering her eyes. Say it all.Gulping again, Eunice continued in a squeaky voice, I feel that you stopping me

from liking Kristian comes from your own insecurities... that former friendship with himthat you can never return to.

I don't care about him, said Tiffany in a lowered tone. I care about Julie. The one he dumped was Julie, not you Tiffy.Tiffany's eyes widened. Yes, I know...

    16/20

And if you don't care about him, why do you keep talking about him? Telling me notto like him? Why are you so set on keeping him at a distant from yourself? Is theresomething about him you can't get over?

Eunice, said Tiffany, closing the slide show on the computer. It's really none ofyour business what happened between Kristian and I.

Eunice frowned. Tiffy... I said too much. I'm sorry.

No, I'm sorry, said Tiffany in a stronger voice. I'm sorry that you have to getinvolved with Kristian and I. Tiffany turned dangerous eyes at Eunice. But you... I can'tbelieve you. You would choose him over me.

No, I never said anything like that!Tiffany stood up abruptly. I'm going to the Journalist room.Tiffy, please, said Eunice, grabbing a hold of Tiffany's wrist. Please don't be like

this. You know it makes me sad.You know what? asked Tiffany, glaring at Eunice now. I hate that. It's so irritating.

You're always so emotional and you're always crying over every little thing. Eunice gaspedat Tiffany's harsh words. I don't want you around anyway. You're useless without Jenniferanyway. I'm better off on my own.

Eunice bounced after Tiffany toward the door. I'm sorry. I knew I shouldn't have saidthose things to hurt you Tiffy. You're not part of the group anymore, said Tiffany coldly, leaving her back to

Eunice. I've decided already. I'm the only Asian Gossip Girl who deserves this title. You twoare no longer needed.

Closing the door behind her, Tiffany bit her lip and went on her way. As for Eunice, she was so devastated that she had no idea what to do or say. Eunice wanted to chase afterTiffany and convince Tiffany to change her mind but at the same time, she knew howstubborn Tiffany could be. Jennifer made one mistake and she was gone. Eunice said whatwas on her mind and she was kicked out as well.

What do I do? asked Eunice, tearful. What do I do now?

Over the band room, it was finally time for their lunch break. After talking with Rinfor a bit, Faith felt better but he was still quiet throughout practice. Nathan thought it wasbest if they finished practice for the day so he and Edwin could take Faith out tosomewhere nice to eat lunch together. Once they were gone, Kristian felt his phone vibrateso he checked his inbox while Rin was busy in the back room.

You stupid girl, said Kristian after he read his message. What the hell are youdoing now?

Kristian, said Rin, leaving the back room. Where do you want to go eat? Kristianwas busy reading the message over to hear Rin, who pouted. Now, she didn't want to repeatwhat she just said anymore. I'm going home to study then.

Kristian lifted his eyes off his cell phone. That's a wonderful idea, Rin-chan. I have

to go somewhere.Where are you going? asked Rin suspiciously. There's someone else I have to settle things with, said Kristian quietly.Rin's eyes narrowed. Another Cammy? No, an old friend. An old, female friend?Knowing where this was going, Kristian muttered, Yeah, it is.Wrapping her arms in front of her chest, Rin muttered, I'll walk home by myself

then. It doesn't matter if you're there or not! It's not like someone will try to kidnap me in

front of my house again.Kidnap you again?Nothing, said Rin, blushing bright red. Even after that exclamation I made

yesterday in front of everyone, you're still helping random girls. It's not like what I saymatters anyways. I'm going home now.

It's not a random girl, said Kristian in a solemn voice. It's someone I owe.

I don't care, said Rin, frustrated. I don't want to talk to you anymore. Rin had ahurt expression on her face now. You're always the one who goes on about how we don'tspend enough time together and yet, at every opportunity that comes up, you have to gosomewhere else.

This is an emergency, said Kristian, slightly annoyed at Rin now.All right then, said Rin, accidentally stomping her foot. I'm going home now!Right when Rin passed by him with her saxophone case over her shoulder, Kristian

grabbed a hold of her arm, Don't be this way, Rin-chan. You're making it harder for me.Angry, Rin removed his hand from his arm. I should be the one saying that! Are you saying this relationship is hard on you?Yes, it definitely is!

Kristian frowned. It's hard on me too you know. It's stressful, said Rin, biting her lip. It's painful and frustrating!I see, said Kristian in a defeated voice.I thought I was the most important to you, said Rin in a lowered tone. She stared

at the ground with a heavy heart. Just like I thought I was the most important to Jin. Rinpaused and felt tears in her eyes. But I was wrong. I'm always tossed aside by everyone Icare about. By Jin. By you. Rin shook slightly at a flashback. By my own father.

Rin-chan...I don't get it, said Rin, breathless. People are supposed to be happy when they're

in love but I haven't been happy with you in forever. I'm always hurt. I'm always crying.Kristian had a pained expression on his face. Rin-chan, you should go home and get

some rest. We'll talk about this later.I don't want to talk about it anymore, said Rin, tired. I will go home though.Without waiting for an answer, Rin rushed out of the room in a hurry. Kristian didn't

chase after her. He thought about what Rin just said to him and then, what he talked aboutwith Nathan earlier. After his relationship with Cammy, he hadn't had a relationship asstressful as this one. Even though he treated his other girlfriends like princesses, he neverfelt like he was working hard in the relationship. However, every day he was with Rin, hehad to try very hard to please her. She was the same. She had to work hard to make suretheir relationship didn't fall apart.

Suddenly, Kristian laughed to himself. The relationship you work the hardest for isbecause there's something you want from the relationship but can never get.

Soon enough, Kristian stood in front of the journalism room. Eunice asked for him tohelp Tiffany because one, she didn't have Jin's cell phone or home number and two, itappeared he was the source of Tiffany's grief. Raising his hand up to knock, Kristianhesitated and thought about what he told Eunice a few minutes ago.

"One of my hardest breakups was actually with Tiffany's friend Julie," said Kristian, frowning at the memory. "Not because of Julie's crying face right after I broke up with herbut..." Kristian had a flashback of a disapproving frown. "But the upset, tearless look onTiffany's face. It still haunts me to this day."

Eunice tossed Kristian a sad look. "Kristian, why don't you make up with her then?"

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek l Xvi

    18/20

At last, Kristian knocked on the door. Eunice was right. He had been a coward thisentire time. This was his chance to make up with Tiffany once and for all... to resolve alltheir previous differences. Since he picked Tiffany over Rin, he had to make the most ofthis. If Rin broke up with him, at least he should make up for one of the biggest regrets inhis life. Maybe then, he could finally move on from that vivid memory in his head.

"Hey Tiffy Taffy," said Kristian automatically when she opened the door and widened

her eyes to see him. "Surprise?"Why?Because I don't think you can take on the responsibilities of the Asian Gossip Girls by

yourself. You need Eunice to stay in the group.Tiffany tried not to show any emotion on her face. No, I mean, why you?Because, said Kristian sternly, thinking about Rin in the back of his head. I'm the

only one who can make you laugh, Tiffy Taffy.Glancing away, Tiffany muttered, No...Hear me out for a second, said Kristian when Tiffany was about to close the door

on him. However, thanks to his line, she stopped and raised a brow. My feelings for yourfriend might be fake but our friendship was never fake.

I don't want to talk about this anymore.Kristian held the door open with his free hand now. I ditched Rin-chan behind forthis so we better talk or I'll make you talk. Tiffany didn't say anything. Kristian smiledgently. It's so like you to be like this. Always keeping everything all bottled up and thenlooking like someone is out to get your family.

Tiffany rolled her eyes. No.It's okay to let it out once in a while, Tiffy Taffy. There's nothing going on, said Tiffany solemnly. And don't call me that!Kristian placed his back against the door and stared at the sky. I'll never get over my

guilt at this rate. Kristian frowned at the thought. Let's be friends again.**************************************************

Watching the cross light in a daze, Rin tried the best she could to not think about hersituation with Kristian. Instead, she had to keep her mind focused on the studying she wasabout to do once she get home. However, the harder she tried not to ponder on theirproblems, the longer the thoughts linger on her mind. Rin wanted to know more thananything who this friend was. What was Kristian doing right now? Why was he doing this? Most importantly, why couldn't he tell her about it?

Rin barely noticed the street light turning green. She took a step off the sidewalkmindlessly. Then, she heard a loud honk and moved back instantly, right in time before thetruck drove past her. Rin's eyes widened at what just happened. Did she almost get hit by acar? Speechless, Rin stood there, dumbfounded.

    Let's go, Hamada-sama.

Without warning, Bo snatched her arm and dragged her across the street behind him.She didn't argue back or anything. She was still speechless at how careless she was. If shedidn't retreat herself in time, she might have been hit by a car. She never made mistakeslike that before.

Where's Kristian, Hamada-sama?Looking up at Bo, Rin muttered, I don't know. You should be more careful, said Bo with a wide grin.Sighing, Rin asked, Are you stalking me again Bo?How did you know?

    19/20

Never mind that, said Rin, looking down. I'm going home and studying now.I'll follow you to your door to make sure you stay out of trouble, said Bo in a

cheerful tone. Rin didn't say anything as they continued down the street. What's botheringyou Hamada-sama? You look pale, my Queen.

Rin shook her head. I'm fine, really. You may tell me, said Bo, wrapping his arms behind his back. I won't tell anyone.

I... said Rin, stopping in her tracks and keeping her eyes on the ground. I don'tknow what to do anymore. What is the problem exactly?Rin bit her lip. I don't know whether I'm right or wrong. Immediately, Rin picked up

her head and stared straight at Bo. Is it wrong of me to be mad at Kristian for running offand helping a girl on one of the few days we can be together?

I can't answer that question for you Hamada-sama. You know my answer will beextremely biased.

Yes, I know, said Rin, continuing on her way. I'm not exactly looking for an answeranyways. I'm not sure what I want from Kristian or from our relationship. All I know is thatI'll be sad if we break up even if it looks like that's the best option right now.

You're breaking up with Kristian? asked Bo, surprised.Rin frowned. No. I don't know yet.If you do, said Bo, rubbing his chin now. You probably need a rebound person-Immediately, Rin punched Bo to the side. Let's not even joke about that.I don't know about you but I was serious.Dropping the cell phone she was carrying this entire time, Rin gaped at the black car

parked in her driveway. Bo followed her gaze, but he didn't find anything special about thecar. However, when he shifted his attention to Rin, she had lost all color on her face. Shetook a step backwards.

He's here, said Rin under her breath with a pained expression on her face. I...don't want to see him.

Bo blinked. Hamada-sama?Rin burst into tears and ran the opposite direction. I don't want to see him!************************************************

On his drive to Jin's house, Jordan noticed the puppy key chain dangling to the side.At the sight of the key chain, Jordan thought about what Penny told him earlier today inregards to Rin. More than anything, he was curious whether Rin knew she was supposed tobe the leader of the Elites next year. If she didn't, he thought it was best to tell her now sothat it wouldn't be so shocking then. Besides, she should know about how the Elites werefreed from having rumors spread about them. She might even look forward to that.

Ignoring the safety rules, Jordan called Rin's cell phone number and waited patientlyafter the ringing. However, after a while, it went straight to her voice mail. Jordan frowned

and tried again several times. After the fourth try, Jordan thought about how maybe shedidn't want to talk to him anymore because of Kristian. It was possible and plausible.

I'm sorry for bothering you, said Jordan to Roselle. But may you call Rin Hamadaand see if she's all right?

Roselle didn't say anything at first at this sudden request but eventually, she replied,Fine. You're always asking me to do weird stuff anyways.

Jordan blushed. Sorry...One second. I'll call you back.Impatiently, Jordan patted his left hand against the wheel. At last, a few minutes

later, Roselle called him back and told him that she couldn't get a hold of Rin. ThankingRoselle quickly, Jordan hung up and called Rin again. And for the fifth time or so, helistened to her recorded voice telling him that she couldn't pick up the call at the moment.

If I call Kristian, it'll cause even more problems, thought Jordan to himself. With that thought in mind, Jordan took a quick U-turn toward Rin's house instead of

Jin's. After driving in the opposite direction for a few minutes, Jordan decided it was best

to call to let Jin know. Unlike Rin, Jin picked up immediately and greeted Jordan brightly.Hey Jin, said Jordan, frowning. Ri-chan won't pick up her cell phone. Does sheusually not pick up her cell phone?

No actually, said Jin, worried too. The only time she doesn't pick up her cellphone is in the shower.

She doesn't take showers at around noon does she?Jin laughed. No. She doesn't.All right then, said Jordan, keeping his eyes on the road. I'm checking up on her.Do you want me to come with?Jordan smiled at Jin's words. If I need backup.I'll come anyways. Rin-chan keeps getting into trouble nowadays.

Sure. I'll see you at her house then. After Jin hung up, Jordan released a long and heavy sigh. When did he start caringwhether she picked up her cell phone or not? Jordan thought about it. It was obvious. Eversince he saw her cry, he finally understood she wasn't as strong as she made herself out tobe in school. Even though he was in no position to call her weak, Jordan thought that if sheneeded someone for any reason, he and Jin would be more than willing to help.
