Our Australasian operation services a wide variety of clients within Australia and across the Pacifi c Rim. We are based in two offi ces, Brisbane and Perth, which operate under an integrated management system consisting of quality, health and safety and environmental procedures. Our HSE system is registered to the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards for environment and occupational health and safety, respectively. Our goal is preventing harm in our offi ces and laboratories, and on project sites worldwide. Our engineering and geosciences consulting services require in-depth understanding of a variety of technical specialties, including geotechnical and civil engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, and geochemistry. We also off er environmental and social services to complement these design and assessment strengths where it is of advantage to the client.

RESOURCE INFRASTRUCTURE

MININGWe have a strong record of project delivery under extreme conditions from the wet humid tropics of equatorial Asia to arid remote mining areas within Australia. We pride ourselves on being a high-end technically strong consultancy with mature service delivery practices including inter-offi ce and inter-group project collaboration. This latter element of our business is particularly advantageous as it permits us to effi ciently provide more specialised services (such as mechanical, electrical and structural engineering) from other offi ces to our local clients.

OIL & GASOur engineers and scientists have project experience in arid and tropical regions, and are familiar with the engineering design and environmental management requirements for conventional and unconventional oil and gas projects.

We provide comprehensive services for environmental management of oil and gas projects with a focus on water and infrastructure engineering and design requirements. This includes project life cycle water management from development of surface water or groundwater supply through wastewater disposal management, monitoring and compliance. We integrate social, environmental and regulatory support in our project design services for project development, operations and reclamation.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Services include community management planning and stakeholder consultation, community surveys, baseline and impact assessment, regulatory stewardship and permitting, operational support and compliance reporting, and closure planning and reclamation.

GROUNDWATER

Groundwater exploration, advanced numerical modelling of groundwater resources, bore fi eld (water supply) design, installation and commissioning. Other key services include integrated groundwater quality and water balance modelling, wastewater injection assessment, design and permitting, design of groundwater monitoring networks for operational and regulatory compliance monitoring, and groundwater remedial designs. KCB also has experienced hydrogeologists in water policy and access processes.

SURFACE WATER

Baseline characterisation at regional and site scale, numerical modelling, impact assessment and mitigation design, site drainage and clean water diversions, site water balance and water chemistry modelling, storage impoundment designs and construction management, and operational and compliance performance monitoring.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Geotechnical and civil engineering designs for exploration and upstream facilities including site access, well pads, gathering facilities, foundation designs for dams, pipeline route and geohazard assessments and foundation designs for product storage, refi ning and port facilities, construction management, and earthworks designs for reclamation.

GOVERNMENTOur Australasian operation provides technical advice and support to a variety of State and Federal Governments. The key areas of support can be categorised into three streams:

WATER RESOURCE TECHNICAL SUPPORT

KCB has completed numerous projects over recent years for a number of groundwater resource areas to improve the hydrogeological understanding of the resources, to update performance and predicted impacts of continued or altered abstraction strategies, and to assist in the development of planning tools for longer term resource management. The Condamine Alluvium system in southeast Queensland is one example of signifi cant and ongoing support that KCB has provided. We have been involved in assisting the Queensland Government with the management and forward planning of this resource since 2010.

AQUIFER CHARACTERISATION STUDIES

This work is closely aligned with the water resource management studies above, but includes more regional and industry focussed assessments, particularly associated with the rapid development of the CSG (Coal Seam Gas) industry in the Surat and Bowen Basins of Queensland. This support varies from fi eld assignments, to desktop studies and technical review and support.

SPECIALISED STUDIES

KCB have undertaken a number of specialised studies associated with advancing proactive and pragmatic water management, and in parallel with evolving policies and water management strategies. A great example of such a project is the Water Production Tool, developed to provide the Queensland Government with a means of predicting water production across the Surat and Bowen Basins as a result of varying CSG development scenarios. This particular piece of work is showcased in the paper listed at the bottom of this page.
