History of Gove*La Historia de GoveGove Elementary School:

• Opened its doors in 1964

• First Dual Language school in the district

• It was named after Glades’ pioneer and longtimeeducator, Mrs. Genevieve Gove.

• Mrs. Ruth Irvin, Gove’s first principal

• The Gove family selected green and gold for theschool colors and a cat as the mascot

• In 1972, the school became the home of the firstGlades’ area Exceptional Student Education Center.

• Mrs. Rose Kennedy, mother of the late PresidentJohn F. Kennedy, attended the dedication ceremonythe following year

• In l994, Dr. Pinkos initiated the birth of the DualLanguage Program.

• Gove Elementary progressed from a “D” ratedschool to becoming an “A”.

Description of Gove*Descripción de Gove

Gove Elementary s a full Dual Language Program. All students learn in two languages (English and Spanish). For the year, FY 2020-2021, grades K-5 will be fully implemented 50/50. Students will be instructed in English Language Arts, Spanish Language Arts, Math in English and Science and Social Studies in Spanish.

Gove Elementary does not have any English only classrooms.

Escuela Primaria Gove es un programa completo de Dos Idiomas. Todos los estudiantes aprenden en dos idiomas (inglés y español). Parents are asked to preregister their children online. This can be done at Gove’sschool website https://goves.palmbeachschools.org or the district websitehttps://www.palmbeachschools.org/.

All parents who preregister their child for the upcoming school year will receive a bookbag with kindergarten readiness supplies. Parents will be contacted to come to theschool and pick up the book bag once the school reopens for services.

Late applications are being accepted for kindergarten students who do notlive within Gove Elementary School boundaries (SAC) but wish to attendGove’s Dual Language Program in the fall of 2020. Parents may fill out anapplication found at www.mypbchoiceapp.com and mail it to the Departmentof Choice and Career Options, 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., C-124, West PalmBeach, FL 33406 by August 07, 2020. Please mail the original application, asit must have an original signature. In addition, parents are asked to providea copy of one type of identification (ID) and copies of two proofs ofaddress (light, water or cable) that show the same address. Parent Drop-off ProceduresProcedimientos para los padres que llevan a los estudiantes a la escuela

1st week: Parents may walk their child to the media center. Teachers and guidance counselors will be there to receive the students. Students will eat breakfast in the media center before going to their classroom.

2nd week: Parents may walk their child to the cafeteria entrance gate. The guidance counselors will be there to assist the students. Teachers will pick up the students from the cafeteria.

3rd week: INDEPENDENCE WEEK. Students will follow regular arrival procedures. Parents may walk their child to the cafeteria entrance gate.

There will be a number assigned to the student by the homeroom teacher. Parent picking up student(s) needs to place the number on the car windshield. If there is no number on the car the parent will be asked to park and show proof of ID at the front office.

Students that ride the bus will have a name tag attached to their book bag with the student’s name, bus number and parent phone number.

If there is a need to make dismissal changes please send a detailednote, with a date and signed, to your child’s teacher.Please make every effort to make doctor appointments afterschool hours.To avoid dismissal interruptions, students should not be picked upafter 2:00 p.m.
