The program was held to celebrate World Veterinary Day in collaboration with FVSc & AH SKUAST-K along with a team of scientists led by Head, KVK-Ganderbal, Shamim Simnani. During the program, on- spot diagnosis, treatment and subsequent medication were distributed among the participating animal holders, a statement said. GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Apr 30: In a welcome initiative, SKUAST-K has decided to revive the heritage rice variety Zag in Tangdhar in district Kupwara. In this regard, a university team led by Dr G A Parray, Associate Director Research, MRCFC, Khudwani, officers of agriculture department recently launched a 2-day “Par- ticipatory Seed Pro- duction of High Yield- ing Varieties” and “Revival of Zag Rice of Kash- mir Himalayas” in Tangdhar, a statement here said. Raja Manzoor local MLA and large number of farmers of the area were present. An interface of the scientists-farmers was also held on the occasion. “The traditional Zag variety (Lal Chawal) was losing its area in Tangdhar and was becoming extinct. On the directives of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nazeer Ahmed an effort was initiated to revive the heritage rice variety ZAG rice in this area,” the state- ment said. “15q seed of high yield- ing varieties and pure seed of Zag were distributed among farmers for up- scaling the produc- tion. One compact block of 200 kanals of land in the Agri- culture Zone Gabar of Tangdhar was brought under this participatory seed pro- duction programme,” it said. Dr Parray speak- ing during the inter- face highlighted the role played by the uni- versity scien- tists towards rice research and in address- ing the problems faced by farming community of the valley. JKEDI disburses Rs 66 crore to 2178 beneficiaries GK NEWS NETWORK Pampore, Apr 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Entre- preneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) has dis- bursed over Rs 66 crore to 2178 youth for establishment of micro enterprises in the state. The money has been disbursed under Term Loan Scheme of National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) being implement- ed by JKEDI since 2011, a JKEDI handout here said. “The youth trained by JKEDI under self employ- ment component of Himayat scheme form a major number of the cases disbursed so far. After training the youth are provided financial linkage by the institute. “In the first two years of implementation of Himayat, JKEDI has trained 4046 can- didates for entrepreneur- ship under the scheme, out of which 1746 candidates have been provided finan- cial linkage under Term Loan scheme of National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), New Delhi. “An amount of Rs 46.26 crore has been sanctioned in favour of 1746 trained candidates (Himayat), out of which Rs 34.12 crore has been disbursed so far in favour of 1073candidates from all parts of the State, enabling them to earn a dig- nified livelihood. “The trained candidates have been provided financial networking through Term Loan Scheme of NMDFC being implemented by the institute since 2011. “The remaining amount of more than Rs 32 crore has been disbursed by the insti- tute directly under Term Loan Scheme of NMDFC to 1105 beneficiaries. During the programme the participants were also made aware of the various precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of several epidemic diseases for the coming months especially during the migration of animals to higher pastures. Free medicine, mineral mixture and antibiotics worth Rs. 10,000/= was distributed among the cattle holders.
