In the coming season, we will touch the lives of more than 100,000 patrons and students — educating, engaging, enriching and transforming with our amazing variety of programming. We are ever grateful for your support!

Entering its 24th season, GPAC has fi rmly established itself as a leader in our region’s arts landscape. In 2018-19, we will continue to awe our patrons with the breadth and depth of the quality of the artists we present, performance after performance. From the grand season opening with vocal virtuoso Bobby McFerrin, we’ll journey through an amazingly diverse array of music and dance, including jazz and American music, as well as artists from India and South Africa. Our patrons will once again experience unparalleled artistic excellence in an intimate, authentic setting.

Meanwhile, GPAC will embark on its most innovative and visionary project to date — the construction of

The Grove. With the support of an entire

community of individuals, small businesses, corporations and foundations who believe in the power of the arts to impact quality of life, GPAC will break ground on this new outdoor performance space in the heart of Germantown. The Grove will place GPAC among the ranks of the most innovative performing arts centers in the nation as we become among the fi rst to incorporate a large, moveable video wall onto the stage. This will open up countless possibilities for creative use among all the genres of art we present, and all of our venue users, attracting new audiences by providing a new type of experience. Support the capital campaign for The Grove NOW and become a part of GPAC history!

The iconic Charles Lloyd — jazz saxophonist, fl utist, composer, arranger and native Memphian — celebrates his 80th birthday in 2018 riding high on a second wave of popularity and innovation. The 2015 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master’s latest offerings is with his ace ensemble, The Marvels (Bill Frisell, Greg Leisz, Rueben Rogers and Eric Harland).

Our Fifth Marsalis at GPAC. NEA Jazz Master Ellis Marsalis is a father fi gure of modern jazz — in quite a few ways. As a pianist, he was among the fi rst generation of musicians to bring bebop to New Orleans, and even worked with Ornette Coleman before the saxophonist recorded his landmarks of free jazz. As an educator, many great musicians came through Marsalis’ tutelage, whether in New Orleans’ arts high school or at various university programs. And of course, he is also the actual father of several exceptional musicians named Branford, Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason Marsalis.

8 PMA Jazz Test of Time. At the forefront of jazz music for more than three decades, jazz pianist and composer Fred Hersch has earned countless awards and accolades including ten Grammy nominations, numerous acknowledgments from the jazz world’s most prestigious institutions and publications, and such recent distinctions as being named a 2016 Doris Duke Artist and the Jazz Journalists Association’s 2016 Jazz Pianist of the Year.

BALLET MEMPHIS: MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

8 PMA Welcome Return. Choreographed for Ballet Memphis in 2007, Mark Godden's Midsummer Night's Dream is based on Shakespeare’s well-known comedy about four young Athenians — Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena — whose intertwining love lives lead them on a midnight foray into a magical forest where the fairy king and queen, Oberon and Titania, secretly plot against each other out of jealousy. This classic tale of comically unrequited love is brought to life by Ballet Memphis’ all-professional cast of dancers who have performed to much acclaim on stages around the world, including the prestigious Joyce Theater in New York and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Coinciding with GPAC’s 2018-19 season is the beginning of construction for The Grove, GPAC’s premier outdoor performance center.
