This is not a letter to tell you how great o f a paper we are, you should already know that. We are not here to brag and tell you how many awards we have won over the last few semesters or that we were nominated for the Pacemaker award.
This letter is to inform you that this will possibly be the 1st issue for the last year we have on earth as predicted by the Mayans. 2012 is here, and our goals for the next two semesters are to entertain while providing quality news to our audiences via print as well as forms of online media.
The Collegian will continue to print twice a month providing you with news about all five o f the campuses, majority o f the events and some o f the esteemed faculty and staff until the demise o f all hu-

manity. A new focus implemented for this semester is our online section that will be updated daily with fresh content. We are still the leading voice o f the students and will happily address any issues that you feel is important. All you have to do is give us feedback letting us know what you would like to see in the paper.
Each one o f the editors including myself will be one call, email or shout away. Our main office is located on the Clarkston campus, building B, room 1100 and there is usually always someone in the office with answers to any or all of your questions. Feel free to drop by to have your day brightened by our wonderful staff.

O u r Voice
Hoax or Holocaust?By David Schick
Collegian Staff
This could be your last spring semester ever.
Welcome to 2012, a year filled with the most anticipated doomsday event since Y2K. Remember that?
It was the myth that computers all around the world were destined to fail simultaneously causing mass chaos and anarchy in the streets.
Now, since we’re all still here more than a decade later, a new theory has risen.
According to the Mayan Long Count calendar, the end-date on the 5,125-year long cycle is December 21,2012. That’s the date that conspiracy theorists say marks the end of the world catastrophe or the beginning of a new era.
Several theories exist on the exact scenario in which the Earth will be destroyed. The most prevalent is that a planet-sized asteroid “Nibiru,” named by the Mesopotamians, will collide with Earth. Others include: Earth being sucked into a black hole, the ex
plosion of a super volcano, and a killer solar flare from the sun that will disintegrate us all.
NASA Astrobiologist David Morrison wrote a blog entry about the planet-sized asteroid for Discovery.com entitled, “Armageddon Planet or Astronomical Baloney?” which explained his doubts scientifically in regards to the conspiracy theorists.
Also, let’s not forget that just last year Christian leader, and radio host, Harold Camping claimed that the rapture would take place on May 21,2011 and that the end of the world would happen five months later on October 21,2011. According to The Christian Post, he retired from his position at Family Radio as of October 2011.
So, what should we make of all of this? Well, it’s simple, Armageddon is fun and life is short.
Regardless of whether or not the end of the world comes this year, do yourself a favor and write out your bucket list (a list of all the things you want to do before you “kick the bucket” - die).
Ju st to help you out, here’s your first one:
