Jason’s Journal
“Nevertheless I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will
receive me with honor. Whom I have in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you. My flesh
and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:23-26
The season of Lent has begun. Lent is the time for the church to reflect upon our lives as
we consider the things of life we can put off so that we can take on more of the likeness of
Christ. The likeness of Christ has everything to do with how we are loving God and loving
others. A direct indication of how we are loving God and loving others is how we are treating
others. Are we treating others the same way we would like to be treated? All of these are things
for the church to consider during the reflective season of Lent.
The Psalm above is one I read a few weeks ago. I read this Psalm with Brady as we were
doing his nightly devotion. This Psalm hit home with me as we were preparing for my
grandfather's passing and as my mind and heart were also looking towards the season of Lent.
The psalmist was quick to remind his readers of the One who is always with us, who holds our
hand, and who leads us. The psalmist comes to a conclusion there is no one in heaven to serve
but God, and there is nothing on earth I desire other than you. This idea of desire reflects heavy
in our lives during the Lenten season. Lent calls for us to look deep at our desires, and to
consider if our desires are pulling us closer or away from God. What do you desire? Are your
desires on earth greater than your desire to honor God with your life? How do we honor God
with our lives? We love God with all that we have and love our neighbors as ourselves. Finally,
the psalmist wraps up neatly this Psalm with the ever present reality for all people. One day my
flesh and my heart may fail. Another Lenten thought is for the church to confront and look
intently at our own mortality, knowing that each of us at some time will move from this life to
the next. In this life, what has been your constant, what has been your strength, what has been
your overall desire?
May this season of Lent call us to take a deep look at our desires. May this season of
Lent push us closer to God in our relationship with Him and with others. May we love
recklessly and deeper than ever before. May we do all of these things so that the grace, love,
hope, mercy, forgiveness, and acceptance of Jesus Christ will be seen.

The Inside Scoop from the Youth Minister Grace AIM
Ministry
Its so easy to put a lot of importance on how we look to others. We hate it when we look bad or embarrass ourselves in front of others. I think a lot of the time we take this same way of thinking into our relationship with God. We don’t want to look silly to our friends, so we don’t really speak up about how God has changed our lives. We think our friends might think we’re dumb for believing in God and so we shut up. We think our silence is better than us possibly looking silly in front of our friends. So I have a simple question for you: Do you love God more than your reputation? Do you love God more than what others think about you. Would you stand up for God at your school, at your job, at home, or even in public if no one else did? Would you be bold enough to tell a friend how Jesus has changed your life? Or are you like most people who are afraid to tell others about Jesus. Are you afraid that someone will think you’re stupid because you believe in God. Are you willing to stand up for Jesus, even if it means possibly losing your reputation? That’s a big thing to consider. I challenge you to not let your reputation get in the way of telling others about who God is to you. Don’t let it shut you up or steer you away from sharing your faith. Choose to make God more important to you than your reputation!

Anyone who says he is a Christian but doesn’t control his sharp tongue is just fooling himself, and his religion isn’t worth much. The Christian who is pure and without fault, from God the Father’s point of view, is the one who takes care of orphans and widows, and who remains true to
the Lord—not soiled and dirtied by his contacts with the world.

From “Focus on the Family”
Dollar Date With seven kids between us, date nights for my husband and me are rare treasures that require creativity and planning. Money is always tight in our large household, so recently I came up with the "Dollar Date." To begin our evening, I suggested a "dollar menu" dinner. We
only ordered things that were $1, and our total dinner was six bucks! We then went to the local dollar store and each purchased two treats to share. After that treasure hunt, we headed to the dollar theater and saw a great movie. We laughed and enjoyed our evening, knowing that we had stayed well within our limited budget. And we had treats left over to share with the kids when we got home! We will be doing the "Dollar Date" on a regular basis. I love the challenge of plan-ning dates that eliminate the stress of overspending. And I know my thrifty hus-band appreciates my effort. That doubles the enjoyment of our evenings out! —Kari Long, Alabama
There's an art – an elusive, delicate, almost indescribable art – to forging the kind of
marriage that not only enables the partners to spend enjoyable time with one
another, but which actually nurtures and encourages real togetherness. As you may
have already discovered, clinginess, control, and a demanding attitude that says, "I
want you to spend time with me, and I want it now!" can put a damper on a
relationship faster than almost anything else. So can a constant routine of "the same
old same old" all the time. The way to stay excited about being together is to
sprinkle in a judicious pinch of spice now and then. It's all about "getting outside
the box" every once in a while. In other words, it's a question of achieving the right
balance – like finding your rhythm in the dance and then improvising steps just for
the fun of it.
Current research indicates that thriving husbands and wives draw strength, energy,
and life from being in one another's company. Ironically, this does not mean that
they spend all of their time together. That's because healthy, vibrant relationships
require breathing space. They need the ebb and flow of independence and
togetherness. You can infuse this kind of experience into your marriage by making
room for novelty and variety and by working an element of the unexpected into
your date night plans.
Actor Lucas Neff has been quoted as saying, "That honeymoon phase is so much
fun in real life, when you meet and discover somebody new and fall in love and
chase them – the pursuit, and that climactic final moment of ultimate togetherness."
Whether he knows it or not, in these few words Neff has summed up the essence of
nearly all the world's great romantic comedies. He's given us Shakespeare's A
Midsummer Night's Dream in miniature – a quick snapshot of the push and pull, the
advance and retreat, the playful tug and release that make love between the sexes
such a hilariously stimulating and addictive game.
Couples who stay together tend to be couples who find ways to keep this kind of
hilarity and fun alive at the heart of their relationship. The fabric of their marriages
is strong because they know how to weave spaces into their times of togetherness
and maintain threads of connection even when apart. They do this by developing
meaningful traditions and rituals characterized by laughter and playfulness. They
don't just live under the same roof and sleep in the same bed. Instead, they're
intentional about building a blended life upon a firm foundation of common values,
interests, and goals. What's more, they keep their relationship vibrant by allowing it
to breathe – and by celebrating the surprising and serendipitous side of life every

thing was broke you fixed it ….not throw it away”
I want to walk with you for

"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." Matthew 19:4-6
Couples Corner
A “Note” from our Worship Leader
As a parent, I have quickly learned how important it is to watch what I do and say, for our
children are imitators of all we do, good or bad. I never realized how many bad habits I had until I saw
my own child starting to do those same things. Now don’t get me wrong! Making certain unattractive
faces when I’m angry or biting my nails when nervous aren’t the worst things a mother can do, but they
definitely aren’t traits I want my daughter to pick up. It’s when she starts to do these things that I
realize I’m not perfect, and I am definitely a work in progress as a mother. It also makes me realize that
because I love my child so much and know that she looks up to me, I want to set a good example for her
in all I do.
So how can I set that example? How can I be a good example as not only a parent but as a
person all around? Here in Ephesians, Paul tells the church that we are to be imitators of God, just as
children learn proper behavior from their parents. We as children of God have been adopted into his
family, and it’s because of our faith in Jesus Christ, the ultimate example of love, that we can choose to
live as he did. Just as our own children learn from us, we are to learn from our Father in Heaven and
imitate Him. Since God loves us, we are also called to walk in love, not only with those close to us but
with everyone.
We are to study and learn the ways in which Jesus lived and to take His lead so that we may be
examples to others here on Earth. Jesus was perfect so it’s hard to imagine that we can live like this,
but we have the Holy Spirit to help us in all we do. We as human beings often fail in our attempts to
live like Jesus did, but we are all works in progress and are called to be transformed by the renewal of
our minds (Romans12:2) We are to focus on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable. If there is any excellence, if there is
anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)
I have heard before that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. While my daughter may pick
up on some of those little bad habits of mine, I am so proud when she imitates those traits of love and
respect that her Dad and I have also tried to instill in her. How much more pleased is our Father in
Heaven when we imitate his ways and live in love with our brothers and sisters? So I pray that we may
be imitators of God, for whom we imitate is whom we model for others to follow.

We have a class just for you.
Harry Powell Mens Bible Class
This class uses the traditional Methodist literature by Cokesbury and The Holy Bible. The class is made up of men that range
in age from 29 to 77. They support various missions financial and through prayer. You can always get a good cup of coffee in
this class.
Jack Woolbright Co-ed Class
This class uses the traditional Methodist literature by Cokesbury and The Holy Bible. The class is for all ages. They support
various missions financially and through prayer. class. All are welcome to attend.
Upper Elementary
This class uses the Wesley material for kids grade 3 through 5. This is a very interactive class that has a lesson and then at
times plays games. The kids love to read and act out the lesson and sometimes draw pictures that relate to the lesson.
Occasionally, they have treats. Also, They enjoy making cards for shut-ins.
Middle School
This class uses lecture and interactive class activities. Lately, they have been studying the book of James. Overall, the class
is geared toward bible study.
Truth Seekers
Over the past year, we have completed several studies by Andy Stanley, The Stanley studies addressed issues like being a
disciple and taking responsibility for your life. We have studied worship. And completed a study of the book of James and
Ephesians. This year we began with another Andy Stanley study of "5 Things God uses to Grow Your Faith." The class is very
interactive.
Growing in Grace
This class has studied Not A Fan and Gods at War - both by Kyle Idleman, "30 Life Principles" by Charles Stanley, and
Celebrating Discipline. This year we will be studying The Story by Max Lucado. As one study ends, the class votes on another
study which is then approved by the pastor and Sunday School Superintend. This is mainly a lecture class with some
interactive class input and discussion. The class supports various ministries or people in need through weekly giving, by
working the church parking lot for the football games, and through prayer.
Preschool
This class uses Grow, Proclaim, Serve by Cokesbury. This is an interactive class that has a lesson, treats, and they do crafts.
Bible 101
They are just finishing Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman. Previously, they have studied 30 Life Principles by Dr. Charles Stanley, the
books of James 1, 2, 3, John, Jude, and Titus. As one study ends, the class votes on another study which is then approved by
the pastor and Sunday School Superintend. This class enjoys discussing their class material. They have a family atmosphere
with no regard to age, marital status, etc. Also, the class supports missions through their time, money, and prayers.
Ladies Bible Class
This class uses the traditional Methodist literature by Cokesbury and The Holy Bible. The class is made up of women of
various ages. They support various missions through prayer. All are welcome to attend
Girls of Grace

Peanut Butter Drive Winners for February
We are excited to announce that 234 jars of peanut butter were collected for the food pantry! The point
of this drive was to remind everyone that we are the "peanut butter church". It's easy to forget sometimes so we are hoping this helped give your memory a boost. Continue to pick up a jar
when you buy your groceries.
As promised, the classes that brought in the most jars will re-ceive Krispy Kreme donuts next Sunday, Mar. 1st. The winning
adult class is the Jack Woolbright class with an amazing 76 jars! The winning children's class is the Preschool class with 25 jars!

These are a few things you can do to help make this a successful ministry weekend:
Pray-Please pray for the team who will be sharing their faith with a selected group of residents in McCormick. (See the
Sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the hallway).
Write Letters-Please write a note of encouragement to the 42 in-mates that will be involved in each weekend.
Bake Cookies-Six thousand dozen cookies are needed for each week-end.
Decorate Placemats & Posters-It is especially meaningful when the residents are given a placemat to eat on that is decorated by a child.
