2018 Capital Preparatory Harbor Lower School Winter Project
Grade 1
Assignment Objective:
I know how to minimize my winter learning loss because I can complete a subject specific project and participate in learning activities to reassess on standards taught during first semester.
Description of Winter Learning Project:
Winter Learning Projects (WLP) are required assignments for all scholars attending CPHS for the 2018-2019 school year. SLPs are designed as Harbor Lower’s means to re-assess in standards taught during the first semester of the 2018-19 school year.
Each grade level project will consist of numerous tasks to complete, allowing scholars to demonstrate what they have learned during the semester.
Projects are due on the first Monday back from vacation, January 6th, and will be graded as assessment scores for Common Core Standards for each class.
Assignment Objective:
I know how to minimize my winter learning loss because I can complete a subject specific project and participate in learning activities to reassess on standards taught during first semester.
Winter Learning Project:
Grade 1
Project Theme: “Winter Treats”
Common Core Standards and NGSS to be Assessed
English W.1.3
Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure.
Mathematics 1.OA.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g. by using objects, drawing, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Assignment Objective:
I know how to minimize my winter learning loss because I can complete a subject specific project and participate in learning activities to reassess on standards taught during first semester.
Grade 1 Tasks (worksheets attached)
Scholars must complete all of the following tasks.
English Tasks

2. Scholars will construct a cupcake using the pieces.
3. Scholars will color their cupcake to represent the flavors of their cupcake.
4. Scholars will create a “recipe” to describe how to make their cupcakes.
Mathematics Tasks
1. Scholars will read and annotate math problems about gingerbread cookies.
2. Scholars will create a physical model and math picture to model each problem.
3. Scholars will write equations and a number bond for each problem.
4. Scholars will record an answer for each problem.
