    Grading Policy in Room 105

    Classwork of theWeek

Every day, I will randomly choose a group of studentsclasswork to grade for accuracy, completion, and organization. These will be graded on a 15-point scale.

Ubuntu Points Every day, I will track students commitment to learning (Areyou prepared with your materials everyday? Are you positivelyparticipating in class?) Students will start each week with 10points. Students that are not prepared or disrespect thelearning environment will lose points. Students who earn themost points in each week will be eligible to earn prizes.

Group WorkYou will be expected work cooperatively in groups often in thisclass. To track your groups progress, you will be graded on a4-point scale each day for your positive participation ingroups.

    Show What YouKnow

At the end of each class, you will be asked to share what youhave learned that day. This will be scored on a 3-point scale forre-stating the question, accuracy of your answer, and use ofevidence to back up your answer. Being absent from classmeans this will be graded as MISSING until the assignmentis completed with Mr. V.

Notebook QuizEvery two weeks, you will be asked to complete an open-notebook quiz checking on the organization and neatness ofyour notebook, as well as its use as a study guide. These will begraded on 22-point scale.

    Notebook Check

Your notebooks will also be collected every 4 weeks to be

graded for a maximum of 100 points each time.

Tests and QuizzesAssessments are your opportunity to demonstrate all thatyouve learned in Civics. Assessments help me to know whatyouve learned, and what I need to do a better job of teachingyou. They are not meant to punish youthey are meant to helpus both understand how successfully I am teaching you Civics, and how successfully you are learning it. Quizzes are givenevery two weeks for 26 points, and each Unit will have a Test.

ProjectsThere will be one major project connected to each unit. Youwill have 2-3 weeks to complete each project. These projectswill be a chance for you to demonstrate your understanding of

the topics were studying in a creative way, instead of througha test. Projects will be worth as much as tests100 points. That means that even if youre not good at tests, if you do wellon projects, it will balance out your grade in the assessmentcategory.

HomeworkYou will be asked to complete daily homework assignments tocement your knowledge of that days classwork. Homeworkwill be checked and given a stamp (each stamp is worth 2points). Homework is worth about 15% of your Term Grade equal to about one test grade.
