The Graduate Certificate in Transfusion Practice ishighly recognised and valued in the blood sector. Thecourse incorporates transfusion practice guidelines andpatient blood management strategies to achieve bestpractice in transfusion.

It is endorsed by the Blood Matters Program of theDepartment of Health & Human Services Victoria and theAustralian Red Cross Blood Service.

The course content draws on a wide range of knowledge andclinical expertise from experts in the fields from acrossAustralia.

The focus of the course is broad, encompassing both nationaland international trends in clinical transfusion practice,governance and risk management. The course aims to developthe student's capacity to initiate and accommodate changewithin the speciality area of transfusion medicine.

Who Should Apply?Healthcare professionals such as nurses, midwives, andscientists working in or associated with the field of transfusion.

Course StructureThe course is offered as a four subject online course, facilitatedby an experienced online Nurse Educator and commences inMarch 2016.

Cost: AUD$9,260 ($2,315 per subject)FEE-HELP available for eligible students.

Fundamentals in Transfusion PracticeExplores the fundamentals of transfusion practice, such as basichaematology and the pathophysiology of diseases affecting blood.

Quality in Transfusion PracticeCovers quality systems, principles and issues, as well as addressingnational guidelines and standards as they relate to bloodtransfusion.

Advanced Concepts in Transfusion PracticeBuilds on the knowledge gained in the fundamentals subject toprovide more advanced transfusion knowledge, with a focus onclinical practice guidelines and patient blood managementstrategies.

Transfusion Specialty PracticeThis subject builds upon the theoretical concepts previously learntand provides the opportunity for students to apply this knowledgein their specific clinical setting.
