INTRODUCTION
The Global Skills Award is a unique programme designed toenhance global awareness and improve your employability in acompetitive job market, while you study for your Master’s Degree.
Studying for a taught Master’s Degreewill improve your detailed knowledge of your academic subject; it may alsoprovide preparation for a professionalcareer. A postgraduate degree is highlylikely to improve your employmentprospects, and the Global Skills AwardProgramme gives you the opportunity totake your career one step further.
The Global Skills Award Programme isdesigned to broaden your understandingof global issues and current affairs, aswell as develop personal skills to enhanceyour employability. The Programme runsfrom October to May and is free ofcharge. All students registered for ataught Master’s Degree are eligible toenrol. Once enrolled on to theprogramme you will undertake a personaldevelopment assessment, which will helpyou to reflect on your skills and identifyany areas in need of development.

You will attend a lecture series deliveredby leading academics and specialists.This will give you the opportunity toparticipate in discussions about issuesof global importance, such as theenvironment, culture, social changes,world politics and gender. A series ofskills training workshops will offer you thechance to develop your careeropportunities, as well as acquire theskills you need to succeed in theworkplace, such as team working,networking and leadership.
The Global Skills Award Programme willgive you the opportunity to broaden your experience and gain important skills whilst you are studying. It will alsoprovide a fantastic opportunity to meetand network with other postgraduatestudents from a wide variety ofbackgrounds and disciplines.

LECTURES AND EVENTS
At the heart of the Global Skills Award Programme isthe series of lectures and events. These lectures are anideal opportunity to network with other postgraduatestudents and discuss topics of interest from outsideyour own discipline.

Lectures and events take place inthe evening from October to Aprilat 18.00 on the Canterbury campus.Lectures and events will lastapproximately one and a quarterhours, and will include discussions.
To be eligible for an award you willneed to attend at least threelectures/events.

Graduate School. This will run aspart of the employability festival inOctober.
The lecture series will feature avariety of topics such as: Culture;Global Citizenship; Gender andPolitics.
As part of the lecture and eventseries, we will hold a networkingevent, where you will have theopportunity to practice yournetworking skills.

Award levelsThe table below shows the number of lectures and workshops you needto attend in order to gain a specific level of award.
The minimum requirement is to attend three lectures and workshops fora Bronze Award.
The Global Skills AwardProgramme isadministered and runby the Graduate School.You can enrol onto theGlobal Skills Awardprogramme via the onlinebooking system fromwelcome week.
