Graduate School One Step Closer to Electronic Thesis Pittsburg State University has taken another leap into the electronic age and is one step closer to a requirement that all the- ses be submitted electroni- cally. Option 1 Graduate students at PSU, begin- ning with the spring se- mester 2014, are encour- aged to publish an elec- tronic copy of their thesis. Mandatory submission of master’s theses in elec- tronic format (pdf) for all academic departments will commence with the Spring 2016 semes- ter. Students may, there- after, petition the Dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies for a waiver of electronic submis- sion. Electronic submis- sion will be optional for students currently en- rolled and/or thesis com- mittees currently in pro- cess. Any current student who chooses to submit their thesis in the tradi- tional, paper format, will be expected to abide by all current and existing regu- lations and policies of their major department and the Graduate Office. An electronic (or digital) thesis is, like a conven- tional thesis, a document that explicates the re- search of a graduate stu- dent. Electronic theses expand the creative possi- bilities open to students and empower students to convey a richer message by permitting video, sound, and color images to be integrated into their work. Submitting and archiving an electronic thesis helps students to understand electronic publishing is- sues and provides greater access to students’ re- search. Master’s theses will be submitted for in- clusion in the Pittsburg State University digital library archive and for electronic dissemination for all academic depart- ments. Through the World Wide Web, people from any place on the globe can link directly to thesis collections at Pitts- burg State University. The Graduate School website provides resources for preparing a thesis.
