M. Virginia Biggy

Established in 1989 in honor of the former Dean of the College of Education. Following Dr. Biggy’s death in January 2006, it was decided to award a scholarship in her memory. Priority consideration is given to a doctoral student, enrolled in the Leadership in Schooling pro-gram, who has demonstrated the vision, capabilities and commitment to improve the quality of education for all children.

Zaher-Lacouture Family Scholarship

Recognizes the outstanding achievements of deserving doctoral candidates in the field of Education at UMass Lowell who are in the dissertation phase of their degree.

Mary Frances Hogan '26 Scholarship

Awards an annual scholarship to a worthy student matriculated into a graduate education degree program at UMass Lowell. Scholarship se-lection is based on academic record and commitment to teaching. Prior-ity consideration given to teachers at, or graduates of, the Bartlett School in Lowell.

Ruth Walker Frank '28 Scholarship

Awarded to students enrolled in the Graduate School of Education and who demonstrate financial need through established federal financial aid formulas.

Catherine J. McArdle '35 Scholarship

The purpose of the Catherine J. McArdle ’35 Endowed Scholarship Fund is to award scholarships for UMass Lowell students pursuing a degree at the Graduate School of Education studying for a Master’s Degree in Education Administration with licensure as a school principal. This is the largest schol-arship fund benefiting students studying at the Graduate School of Educa-tion.

Douglas and Mary Sullivan Scholarship

Awarded to students pursuing a Master’s degree in Education Administra-tion, Doctorate in Leadership in Schooling, or Ed.S. in Administration, Plan-ning and Policy; exclusively for a school teacher or administrator in the Lowell Public School system. If no school teacher or administrator in Lowell Public Schools receives a scholarship in any given year, the income of the fund in said year shall revert to the principal.

The FitzPatrick Family Education Scholarship is awarded to students selected by the Graduate School of Education Scholarship Committee, under the leadership of the Dean of the Graduate School of Education. Loddy Weisberg ‘53 Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the M.Ed. Initial Licensure Elementary program entering his/her practicum. The individual must have an outstanding academic record with a GPA of 3.5 or better and will com-plete a practicum in a Lowell public elementary school. Preference will be given to students from diverse back-grounds.

Conlon-Drauch Family Scholarship

The Conlon-Drauch Family Scholarship is established in memory of Mary Conlon '27 and Mary Jo Drauch '59. ELEMENTARY or SECONDARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Class of 1954 State Teacher's College

Scholarships awarded to students enrolled in the Graduate School of Education or to students en-rolled in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Music Teaching and/or Music Education programs. Students must be at their sophomore, junior or senior level, in good aca-demic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and demonstrate financial need. Recipients selected by the Graduate School of Education and the Col-lege of Fine Arts (the Committee).

GSE Advisory Board

Established in 2009, the Advisory Board of the GSE supports a scholarship for a student with excellent aca-demic credentials entering the M.Ed. Initial Licensure Program. Recipient must have completed their under-graduate degree at UMass Lowell.

Socrates Lagios Memorial Scholarship

The Lagios Scholarship is awarded to students selected by the UMass Lowell Graduate School of Education Scholarship Committee. The Committee will award at least one scholarship per academic year to an out-standing prospective teacher of secondary school Eng-lish, who is enrolled in the Graduate School of Education, has demonstrated academic excellence and caring char-acter, and has financial need.

Nettie Ginsburg Altshuler Scholarship

Provides scholarships to eligible students majoring in Computer Science, English Literature, Music History, Literature, or Education; and intend to seek certification for a teaching career in one of those disciplines in either a primary or secondary school. Earn at least 1/3 of the credits required for a BA degree in Liberal Arts courses outside of the major field of study and distributed as evenly as fea-sible among three broad areas: fine arts, history, humanities and languages; the social and behavioral sciences; and the natural and physical sciences and mathematics. Be a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student, and have attained a junior status not more than two years previously. GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

E. Dewey and Rose A. Dyer Scholarship

The purpose of the Fund is to award scholarships for deserving UMass Lowell students enrolled in the Graduate School of Education. Preferences as to per-sons selected would be as follows: 1. First generation going to college. 2. Based on need. 3. From Greater Lawrence or Haverhill.

Vito and Vasiliki (Ziogas) Selvaggio Scholarship

Established in 2003 to recognize outstanding gradu-ates of UMass Lowell who have been admitted to a graduate program leading to education licensure. Pri-ority consideration given to academic record, financial need, community service and interest in music or ele-mentary education.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS Current and newly accepted GSE students who wish to be considered for a scholarship, should consult the website early in the spring semester where an appli-cation form will be found. All applications must be re-ceived by April 22nd in order to be considered for a scholarship during the following academic year.
