Graduate surveys help us to ...
evaluate the employability of our graduates (Did our graduates find an
adequate job?)
get to know the demands of the job market (Which competences do they need
in their current job?)
collect information for the improvement of our study programmes (Which
contents and conditions of study did support the development of these
competences?)
Objectives and key questions

JOB
2007: first graduate survey at UDE (graduates from 2006)
in the framework of the graduate survey cooperation project (KOAB) coordinated by
the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER)
2012: cooperation within the KOAB-poject becomes obligatory for all Universities of
Northrine-Westphalia (by performance aggreement between state and Universities)
currently 72 German Universities are cooperating within KOAB
about 70.000 graduates are surveyed per year
aims of the project:
cross-institutional higher education research
professionalization of graduate surveys
Implementation and current practice of conduction

core questionnaires (adaptable by
Universities themselves):
standardized procedures
full-population survey
surveys 1,5 years after graduation
and 4-5 years after graduation
online-surveys, invitation by postal
letter and password
3 participation reminders
data cleansing and overall processing
by INCHER data report on
University level
annual faculty specific and (if
possible) study programme specific
analysis by CHEDQE
Implementation and current practice of conduction
course of study
retrospective assessment of study programmes and conditions
(self-assessed) competencies at graduation
employment search
characteristics of the first and current employment
competency requirements in the job
job satisfaction
regional and international mobility

graduate tracer studies in future: UDE panel
taking into account the perspective of graduates as important
stakeholders
fruitful results on UDE-level (examples cohort 2010):
about 46% of MA-graduates, but only 20% of BA-graduates took up a job
immediately after graduation
about 77% of interviewees stated that they developed competences in
teamworking and the ability to adapt to new challenges
only about 20% of interviewees stated that they improved their
presentation skills
only 17% impoved their skills in working scientifically
about 76% valuate the support for developing their foreign language
skills as poor
success and problems

problems of data quality provided by INCHER
very long time for analysis
less influene on questionnaire content
very low response rates on study programme level
