• Intra EU - INTRASTAT system (Department of Customs and Special Taxes)

• Extra EU - Actual imports and exports (Department of Customs and Special Taxes)

• Applications for import/export licences (State Secretary for Foreign Trade)

•No official statistics for some components of the balance (stocks, use…) and uncertainty on other figures (intra EU trade…)

•No mandatory declarations of farm/commercial stocks, use, etc.

•Low degree of interaction/coordination between the public and the private sector

Delay of the information available

•Extra EU trade (±6 weeks)

•Official crop production forecast (±2 months)

Difficulties in the use of historical data to make trends/models

•Climatic variability

•Price volatility

Lack of financial and human resources

Strong inter-annual variability
