UNIT 1 – PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE – Let’s play

You need dice and counters. Take turns to roll the dice and move the counters along the board. When a student

lands on a picture square, their partner asks them a question about what is happening in the picture, e.g. 'What

is the boy doing?' The student answers the question by making a present continuous sentence, e.g. 'He is

eating a pizza'. If the student does this successfully, they stay on the square. If the student makes a grammar

mistake or can't think of what to say, they go back to their previous square. The first student to reach the finish

wins the game. ENJOY!

Hi! I'm George. I'm a regular 5th

grade student just like you. Every

day I get up for school at 3:00 in the

morning. I brush my tentacles and

wash my eyes. I run up my crater to

eat breakfast with my mom. She

always makes my favourite squishy

space snail cereal and star worm

juice. I often make a mess, and my

mom tells me to wipe my antennae

before I leave.

At 4:30, I jump to the bus to see

my friends. They are great! We

love to talk about the latest

meteor showers and the best

players on our space teams.

Sometimes we disagree, but we

never fight over it. We chat on

the bus together. It always

makes the bus ride short and

gets me ready for my day at

school.

she has got long wavy brown hair. Her parents are in Toronto. My father is reading The New York

Times, an American newspaper. My mother is playing with my little brother Jimmy on the grass

and they are eating popcorn. There are many people in the park. Some men are jogging, two girls

are walking their dogs, and an old man is skating! He can do that quite well! We often come to this

fantastic park in this wonderful city. We are relaxing here. Sometimes we also visit other

interesting places: museums, shops… New York is great! There are many amazing skyscrapers and

there are people everywhere!

Love, Sarah
