PENGUIN’s Christmas campaign for 2012 ...was inspired by the classic 1920s–30s Art Deco design style. Its elegant and glamourous appearance is instantly appealing and encapsulates the quality of books we produce.

Acquiring the skills of talented Sydney-based paper engineer Benja Harney, a series of three beautiful stages featuring three different backdrops were created.

Once our books were styled amongst these amazing backdrops, they were then captured by renowned photographer Rob Palmer, creating a spectacular result that has since featured in a variety of print publications distributed nationwide.

On WarneGideon HaighWho doesn’t know the name Shane Warne?

Gideon Haigh on Shane Warne is an irresistible pairing: ‘the finest cricket writer alive’ (The Australian) on the greatest cricketer of our era. The resulting masterpiece is as much about our fascination with Warnie as it is about the player himself.

Drawing on interviews conducted with Warne over the course of a decade, and two decades of watching him play, Haigh assesses this greatest of sportsmen as a cricketer, character, comrade, newsmaker and national figure.

Bradman’s WarMalcolm KnoxWhen World War II ended, Bradman assembled an army.

Hailed as one of the greatest cricket teams of all time, the 1948 ‘Invincibles’ are the only Australians to complete a tour of England undefeated.

Bradman’s War considers what value we place on entertainment and good-natured rivalry in competitive sport. When it’s winner takes all, what’s left for those who love the game?

Drink Smoke Pass OutJudith LucyAt last, a book about life that discusses liquor and lovemaking as much as it does the point of it all.

Judith Lucy has looked everywhere for happiness. So lately, she’s been asking herself the big questions. Why are we here? Is there a God? What happens when we die? And why can’t she tell you what her close friends believe in, but she can tell you which ones have herpes?

In Drink, Smoke, Pass Out, Judith tries to find out if there’s more to life than wanting to suck tequila out of Ryan Gosling’s navel. With disarming frankness and classic dry wit, she reviews the major paths of her life and, alarmingly, finds herself on an unlikely spiritual journey.

MontebelloRobert Drewe‘They’ve let off an atom bomb today. Right here in W.A. Atom bombs worry the blazes out of me, and I want you at home.’

In this moving sequel to The Shark Net, and with his characteristic frankness, humour and cinematic imagery, Drewe travels to the Montebellos to visit the territory that has held his imagination since childhood. In the aftermath of both man-made and natural events that have left a permanent mark on the Australian landscape and psyche – from nuclear tests and the mining boom to shark attacks along the coast – Drewe examines how comfortable and familiar terrain can quickly become a site of danger, and how regeneration and love can emerge from chaos and loss.
