A message from our

Grand Knight

What a Great Month! Congratulations to the 60

Knights who planned and/or participated in the

events that can make all of us In Council 7304 to be

very proud.

The Catholic College Night on Wednesday,

September 9th

was a great success by many standards.

We had representatives from 21 colleges in five

states and at least 138 students from over 50 different

area codes in Michigan. Our thanks and praises to

Gary DeLamielleure who came up with the idea and

his co-chairman Greg Kirchmeier. Adding up the

hours spent on this event of all the Knights who

helped, the sum was 550 hours. We also have to

thank Cleary University, Hungry Howie’s Pizza,

Costco, Ave Maria Radio, Dioceses of Lansing,

Saginaw, and Detroit. We also thank Fr. Karl Pung

for his support.

The second event was our participation in the

Ministry Weekend. There were Knights helping with

other ministry tables. William Dunlop and his

helpers manned our table and signed up twelve

candidates, four of whom said they wanted to join

now. The team (Larry Bacon, Phil Balmforth, and

others) are now planning an information night on

September 30th

. I hope many of you can attend.

The third event was the successful completion of two

sessions of our charitable gambling in August and

September. We collected $5,000 for our charities

thanks to 24 Knights who helped Paul Williams.

The last event in September will be our Blood Drive

on Saturday.

A Plea for Help

Events like the Charitable Gaming, Catholic College

Night, and the Tootsie Roll Campaign are successful

only if a team plans ahead and learns what makes

them successful. We are organized into five planning

groups but these groups need individuals to become

involved and knowledgeable in the planning process.

If we continue to depend upon the other guy to do the

work and the same guy to do it year after year, we

will fail.

Charitable Gaming has been managed and run by

Paul Williams the last six years. He learned the trade

from Don Sucher, PGK. We need someone to join

the Council Program Chairman, John Ceci, to learn

from Paul and head up the effort for the Council. If

no one steps up to the task, then when Paul leaves

this December, we will lose our license and our

charitable fund. There is an urgency to learn from

Paul. There is a waiting list for licenses, so if we lose

it, it probably will be gone forever.

The Family Program Chairman, Todd Burris, is

having health problems. Someone has to step up and

learn from him before he has to give up the post.

Family is an important post and is in charge of the

Lenten Breakfast Program.

Now is a good time to join a team and start to learn

from the experts. In this way, the Council preserves

its hard learned lessons and becomes stronger.

Bob Baker has stepped up to help John Ceci in an

important Council Function of making sure each

member knows how to obtain a membership badge

and a shirt or jacket with our logo.

Knight of the Month October

Michael Carrigan was chosen as the Knight of the

month for October. Michael is the Inside Guard who

sets up the hall for our meetings. He also helps out in

many of our events when his work schedule allows it.

The one word that defines Michael is dependable.

Family of the Month October

By unanimous vote, we named Gary & Deborah

DeLamielleure and Gregory & Patricia Kirchmeier

as joint participants of the Family of the Month for

the month of October. As one Knight said, “They

planned and executed the best event this Council has

ever put on

Council 7304 of the Knights of Columbus partners

with the Diocese of Lansing and Saginaw, and the

Archdiocese of Detroit in hosted a College Night

at Clearly University in Howell MI on

Wednesday, September 9, 2015. The purpose of

this event was to allow Catholic Colleges to

present their mission statements, curricula,

financial aid, and physical facilities to all high

school students and parents in Livingston,

Oakland, Washtenaw, Ingham, Macomb, Wayne

and neighboring counties.

We used direct marketing to 160 high schools, Ave

Marie radio, Parish Paper in three diocese, and

established http://www.catholiccollegenight.org/ for

on-line registration and information. What made

this event attractive is that students and parents

considering a Catholic college education was the

ability to preview over 21 Catholic colleges from

nearby states without leaving town and get a

preview of important considerations such as:

. financial aid and scholarships

. benefits of a Catholic college education

. continuing ones Catholic faith while on

campus

In the end the council provided 390 student and

parents information that will help determine the

best university the student should attend. Based

on our success, all the colleges that attended

overwhelming expressed their desire to attend

next year's fair.

Thanks to the efforts of Gary Delamielleure and

Greg Kirchmeier who coordinated the event and

with the help of their Brother Knights the fair was

a huge success and will become an annual event.

Special thanks goes to Cleary University that held

the event gratis and to Hungry Howies who

provided free pizza.
