Grande Voiture de Wisconsin La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux
Grande Voiture de Wisconsin 312 Hillside Circle Johnson Creek, WI. 53038 [email protected] 920-699-5676 920-253-3064
It was the 129th meeting between these two
border rivalries. As I’m getting ready to watch the
Ohio State vs Michigan game before the Gophers
and the Badgers go at it; I received a call from my
friend and Grand Correspondant from Minnesota
Jerry Block who wanted to make a $20.00 wager
on the game. After some coaxing on Jerry’s part I
agreed. Still waiting on the check however.
The program of the 40 & 8 is a "POW/MIA Survivors Schol-
arship Fund". This Scholarship is named in memory of Lance
Corporal John Dewey Killen III USMC. Lance Corporal Killen
was declared Missing In Action while serving with The Third
Reconnaissance Battalion in South Vietnam. The Scholarship
is available to the Spouse, Children, Grand Children, Great
Grand Children, Widow or Widower of known and verified
POW's or MIA's who served in the U. S. Military after WWI
Draft day of May 28, 1917. The purpose of The Forty & Eight
POW/MIA Committee is "... to assist former POW's and the
families of MIA's and to formulate some ideas relative to
their benefits...". What better way to provide benefits than
assisting with a scholarship? Please do not think of this as
only a program for the 40 & 8. Remember our MIA's have
not had the opportunity to decide which Veterans Organiza-
tion they might want to join. This scholarship is available to
all of their survivors and is worthy of the support of all us
who nave not forgotten them. Awareness is the key to all
programs so lets get the word out. Anyone wanting addi-
tional information on this program please contact any mem-
ber of the POW/MIA Committee and we will respond.
If any Locale wishes to purchase or sell on consignment
any of the current pins, contact the Grand Correspondant.
We currently have (14) left and will be glad to send however
many you wish.
Past Grande Cabane Presidente 1990 Marge Ricker
passed away recently. Husband Ralph was Grand Chef in
1986. He is still in competition in Senior Olympics down in
Florida.
Be watchful of home fires involving children; especially
at this time of year with the Christmas trees being lit and
such. The Grande Voiture uses the Charles W. Ardery fund
assisting children in need more than any other Grande in
La Societe.
Many of us are stopping over at our fellow Voyageurs
residences making sure they are doing well health wise at
this time of the year. Some of us are also checking in on
our fellow Voyageurs and Veterans for that matter who
have symptoms of PTSD. It’s nothing to ignore! The actor
Jimmy Steward had it coming home from WWII.
Under membership, Wisconsin is in 11th place with
71.53%. 281 more for 100%.
Our best membership tool is Public Relations. We need
to let the public know just what we are as a Veterans
Organization. Tom Orval— Grand Correspondant

(715) 627-4063 or (715) 216-5898 Cell With Veterans Day and Thanksgiving behind us, we move into another very joyous time of year which is Christmas and New Year’s. I extend the warmest of holiday greetings to all and hope your holidays are filled with family, friends, laughter, good health and safe travels/celebrations. I was, again, the Wrecking Chef for a veteran joining our ranks making our Voiture’s membership 100% for the 14th straight year. I hope all of you are working as hard as we do in maintaining or growing our ranks. The below Special Awards Sous/Judges are available to help answer your questions whenever help is need-ed so please call for their assistance. I hope your Thanksgiving was spent with family
and friends. La Societe is Thankful for the 99
years of service as we look forward to celebrat-
ing our 100th Birthday. In November my Voiture
Locale voted to hold a dinner as part of our
100th Birthday Celebration. Our chairman has
invited four other veterans organizations to join
us for this dinner celebration. We are looking
forward to an evening with veterans and veter-
an families. Mid Winter Promenades are sched-
uled for the next coming months. Please remind
your Voiture Locales about celebrating our
100th Birthday on or around March 15, 2020.
The official Ritual of Celebration for the Birthday
of La Societe in in the Blue Ritual & Manual of
Ceremonies or can be found on the 40 et 8
website under Programs then Ritual. As a re-
minder, on pages 75 to 78 in the Blue Ritual &
Manual of Ceremonies are the French Defini-
tions and Phonetic Pronunciations. A review
of our French words and titles may be helpful. If
the Grand Directeur’s Ritual are saying our
French words correctly, Voyageurs will follow.
Wishing you and your families a Merry Christ-
mas & a Happy and Safe New Year. In Service
to La Societe
HISTORIANS AWARD
Grand Historian Dale Mitchell received his 2018 1st Place
National Historians award (finally) which was presented to him
at the Jefferson County November Promenade.
He is pictured with Grand Commis Voyageur Dave Behling,
Grande Chef Passe 2016 Ken Kozubek, Dale and Past Grand
Chef 2006 and Grand Avocat Dave Wegener who came to the
Promenade to speak on the importance of having a Locale set
of Bylaws.
More questions have been coming in concerning the Grande Voiture
flag. “NO” I have not ordered a new one. Not without the approval
from the Grande. $3,500.00 is not something to sneeze at and after all
of the grumbling on getting a new one these last few years; it needs to
be officially voted on at Midwinter before we do anything about it.
