In the early times, one side of the world had the sun, but the other half didn´t. The Wolf gave an idea to the other animals to go to the clear side of the world to ask for a piece of sun. Possum dig a tunnel from a cave to the other side of the world. Possum took a little piece of the sun and carried it on its tail and brought it to the cave. But it got very hot and the other animals threw water on Possum´s tail and the light went out. A bird named Buzzard went to the other side and took a piece of the sun, but it burned his head and the animals turned down the fire. Then, Grandmother Spider went to the other side, carrying a clay bowl with her. The Sun Guards were “taking care” of the sun, but they were distracted and Grandmother Spider took one small piece of sun. During her return to the cave, the piece of sun become so big that the animals had to squeeze it out of the cave and, finally, it raised up to the sky.

Literary WordsOnomatopoeia: is the use of words that imitate sounds. In stories with onomatopoeias, readers should listen to as well as read.Examples: “They had fire coming out of their mouths: Hissss!”.“It go so big that the animals had to squeeze it out of the cave, and as it squeezed out into the world it bounced up into the sky: Boingggg!”. “They got water and Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! The light went out”.

Repetition: is the act of saying or doing something again. Repetition can show that a

character is emotionally excited. When listeners hear that a character is excited, they are more likely to get involved in the story.Examples: “Possum ran faster and faster and faster and faster.”“It took her a long, long, long, long time to get her inside of the world”“Possum! Your tail! Your tail!”“But that ball of light just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger”“No, no, no, no, no! I don´t think we should be so nice! Irony: is the Contrast between appearance and reality. In other words, irony, is the difference between what the reader expects to happen and what actually happens in a story. The irony is used to create surprise or amusement. In this story, the ironic event occurs when Grandmother Spider brought the sun to the dark side of the world. At the beginning, the other animals believed that spider couldn´t bring the sun because she was old and small, but, at the end, she did it!
