I was watching some back to
school ads the past couple of weeks and thought some were
down right funny, but I saw one on YouTube and read the com-
ments below the ad. The one comment was “I wonder how
much they pay those kids to
smile?” Well, I can say that at least most of our students have
been coming in with a smile on their face. We know that there
will be ups and downs throughout
the year, and smiles cannot hap-pen 100% of the time, but we, as
a staff, hope that all students en-joy the 2019-2020 school year at
Grandview School K—12. Wel-come back, and a special welcome
to all new students!
- Mr. Giasson - Principal
School Opens at 8:30 a.m. Just a reminder that, as there
is no formal supervision prior to 8:30 a.m., doors will be
locked until that time.

Mrs. Bennet has been meeting
with new Kindergarten stu-
dents the past couple of days. Students and parents
are becoming familiar with the Kindergarten classroom and
routines. Mrs. Bennet is also
getting to know each child and their abilities. On
Wednesday all the Kindergar-
teners will be ready to come to school for a full
day. Please welcome these new students to Grandview
school!!
Electronic Devices
High School students are able
to bring electronic devices to school, which they can check
at breaks. The only time they should be seen in class is if
the teacher has given them
permission to be used to aid in instruction.
If students in Early Years to
Middle Years bring a device to
school, the devices should be kept in their locker or handed
in to the office for safe-keeping. We would like stu-
dents to maximize healthy socialization and active play.
If parents/guardians need to reach their children during
school hours, please phone the school.
Any students brining devices to school, do so at their own
risk. Grandview School is not responsible for missing cell
phones, I pods, etc.
Student Information Forms Please return Student Infor-
mation Forms ASAP!
Students should have brought home a Registration form, an
Informed Consent form, an Open-Campus form (Grade 11-
12), and a Blanket Note (Grade 8-12). Please try to have these
forms returned to the home-
room teacher as soon as possi-ble.
Head Lice
Over the summer, head lice do
not take a holiday! In order to stop further spread we ask your
assistance and cooperation in
checking your child’s hair care-fully for the next several weeks
for lice and their nits. Other signs that may indicate the
presence of head lice are itchi-
ness and reddened areas of the scalp. The most important step
in the control of head lice is effectively treating the hair with
a pedicullite (lice-killing) sham-poo. If you have any questions
about head lice, please call the
Public Health Nurse at 204-546-5150.
Allergy Alert Please do not send any peanuts
or products containing peanuts, tree nuts, or sesame seeds.
Thank you for helping to keep our children safe!

School Here are some tips to keep your child’s teeth and mouth
healthy at preschool and kindergarten!
Pack a healthy lunch! Fruits,
vegetables, cheese, and sandwiches
are great snacks for your child's
lunchbox! Try to avoid giving them
sugary snacks in between meals and
instead let your child enjoy them
at meal-time when you
can brush their teeth
right after.
Dental issues can be very painful
and can affect your child's ability
to succeed in school. Regular dental
visits can help prevent dental
problems before they affect your
child's learning, self-esteem,
and development.
Instead of packing juice for
lunch, try packing water or
milk! Milk is great for your
child's teeth because it
contains lots of calciuml
Teach your kids good oral health
habits and the importance of
dental care. By doing this, you are
setting them up for a lifetime of
good oral health and success!
All children should see a dentist by 12 months of age. If your child is under
three years old and has not been to a dentist, make sure to take them to
a dental office participating in the MDA Free First Visit Program!

The Mountain View Preschool Program will once again be running out of
community schools. Children born in 2015 or 2016 are welcome to attend with a
supervising adult (parent, grandparent or babysitter). There is no cost and the
program will focus on play, language, fine and gross motor skills, literacy,
numeracy and music. The programming provided will be developmentally
appropriate to enhance readiness for Kindergarten. If you have any questions,
please contact Sheila Giasson at 204-546-2096 or email [email protected].

Caribou Math Contest

ties suitable for all students in grades 3-12.
