Have we enthroned Him in our hearts, our minds, our bodies and souls in a real way that affects how we live our lives? How many of us are willing to be the soldiers of the King, to fight the battle against the implications of Pilate’s question “what is truth” in a world that has denied truth? We do not determine for ourselves what is right and what is wrong. We look to our Mother, the Church, who guides us just as she is guided by the Holy Spirit. We entrust ourselves to her care in confidence that she will lead us to the source of all truth and goodness, and so to the fulfilment of our humanity. So we surrender our will to the will of God and abandon ourselves to His divine providence in the sure and certain hope of salvation. But in a world which demands what is popular, are we prepared to do what is right?

KING of the UNIVERSE The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe marks Christianity not as one religion among others but as the one, true religion. Jesus Christ, God made man, reigns as King of the Universe — as king of all faiths, of all peoples, of all nations, and of all ages. Before our Lord ascended the throne of the Cross, Pontius Pilate asked Him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice.”

Do we consider ourselves as truly subject to the words, the teachings, the person of Christ?  Do we really believe that our King reigns from the Cross, that Cross that is at once the reality of the suffering of this world and at the same time the only answer to the suffering of this world. Have we enthroned Him in our hearts, our minds, our bodies and souls in a real way that affects how we live our lives?  How many of us are willing to be the soldiers of the King, to fight the battle against the implications of Pilate’s question “what is truth” in a world that has denied truth?

We do no t de t e rm ine f o r ourselves what is right and what is wrong.

Please Pray for the Repose of the Soul of Maria Gambin

In your charity please pray for the repose of the soul of Maria Gambin and for the consolation of her family in the faith and hope of the resurrection of Our Lord. Maria died at home on Sunday evening, surrounded by her family, as she had wished. A requiem Mass for the repose of Maria’s soul was prayed on Thursday and we thank those parishioners who attended this Mass to pray for Maria and to offer their support to the family. Maria was a parishioner of this parish for over fifty years and served the parish, the Priests, and the Sisters with great care and with dedication. We know that these good and holy works will go before her as we commend her soul to Almighty God.

✠ Eternal rest grant unto her,

O Lord, and let perpetual light

shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,

rest in peace. Amen.

RED WEDNESDAY Stand Up for Faith and Freedom

Thank you to those who participated in the parish’s Red Wednesday devotions by attending Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at Holy Family Church and Holy Mass at Holy Trinity Church last Wednesday evening. And to those who wore red as we stood in s o l i d a r i t y w i t h p e r s e c u t e d Christians around the world and prayed for the Church. As one of the few parishes in the country that marked this day this was an important event for faith and freedom. As we, too often, take for granted what we have available to us and the freedoms we enjoy, we should remember the millions around the world who, every year, are persecuted and killed for what we have so freely and readily have. A n d a s t h e m e d i a a n d governments continue to ignore the plight of Christians around the world and in Australia we thank Rosette Chidiac for her work in turning our Facebook pages red for the day as a mark of our stand, and we thank those who used their own social media to make known this message of solidarity as we stand up for faith and for freedom.

The Kingdom of God

781 “At all times and in every race, anyone who fears God and does what is right has been acceptable to him. He has, however, willed to make men holy and save them, not as individuals without any bond or link between them, but rather to make them into a people who might acknowledge Him and serve Him in holiness. He therefore chose the Israelite race to be His own people and established a covenant with it. He gradually instructed this people… All these things, however, happened as a preparation for and figure of that new and perfect covenant which was to be ratified in Christ… the New Covenant in His blood; He called together a race made up of Jews and Gentiles which would be one, not according to the flesh, but in the Spirit.”

782 The People of God is marked by characteristics that clearly distinguish it from all other groups found in history: Its destiny, finally, “is the Kingdom of God which has been begun by God himself on earth and which must be further extended until it has been brought to perfection by him at the end of time.”

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI. It is celebrated on the last Sunday of Ordinary Time and draws to a close the Church’s year. This solemnity reminds us that in the midst of government upheaval and loyalty to political parties and ideologies that it is Jesus Christ who reigns as the true leader and ruler. Just as the three kings bowed before the baby Jesus, recognising that He was the true king, so all earthly powers must bow before the throne of God and recognise that true power comes from Him alone. Pope Pius XI wrote: “While nations insult the beloved name of our Redeemer by suppressing all mention of it in their conferences and parliaments, we must all the more loudly proclaim His kingly dignity and power, all the more universally affirm his rights.”

First Reading The Second Book of Samuel (5:1-3)

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron. ‘Look’ they said ‘we are your own flesh and blood. In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel in all their exploits; and the Lord said to you, “You are the man who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you shall be the leader of Israel.”’ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them at Hebron in the presence of the Lord, and they anointed David king of Israel.

Responsorial Psalm (Ps 121:1-5. ℟. see v. 2)

℟. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’ And now our feet are standing

within your gates, O Jerusalem. ℟.

Jerusalem is built as a city strongly compact. It is there that the tribes go up,

the tribes of the Lord. ℟.

For Israel’s law it is, there to praise the Lord’s name. There were set the thrones of judgement of the house of David. ℟.

Second Reading The Letter of St. Paul to the Colossians (1:12-20)

We give thanks to the Father who has made it possible for you to join the saints and with them to inherit the light. Because that is what he has done: he has taken us out of the power of darkness and created a place for us in the kingdom of the Son that he loves, and in him, we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins. He is the image of the unseen God and the first-born of all creation, for in him were created all things in heaven and on earth: everything visible and everything invisible, Thrones, Dominations, Sovereignties, Powers – all things were created through him and for him. Before anything was created, he existed, and he holds all things in unity. Now the Church is his body, he is its head. As he is the Beginning, he was first to be born from the dead, so that he should be first in every way;

because God wanted all perfection to be found in him and all things to be reconciled through him and for him, everything in heaven and everything on earth, when he made peace by his death on the cross.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed is he who inherits the kingdom of David our Father; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Alleluia!

Gospel of Luke (23:35-43)

The people stayed there before the cross watching Jesus. As for the leaders, they jeered at him. ‘He saved others,’ they said, ‘let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.’ The soldiers mocked him too, and when they approached to offer him vinegar they said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’ Above him there was an inscription: ‘This is the King of the Jews.’ One of the criminals hanging there abused him. ‘Are you not the Christ?’ he said. ‘Save yourself and us as well.’ But the other spoke up and rebuked him. ‘Have you no fear of God at all?’ he said. ‘You got the same sentence as he did, but in our case we deserved it: we are paying for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong. Jesus,’ he said, ‘remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ ‘Indeed, I promise you,’ he replied, ‘today you will be with me in paradise.’
