– he wanted more help for families instead of businesses

FDR try to change the Court system?

• Different people began to lead the government

• courts ruled that some of his early programs were unconstitutional

• FDR wanted to be able to add more judges – ones that would agree with his plans: COURT PACKING

• MANY people disagreed with this plan, hurt his popularity

• Frances Perkins – 1st woman to be a Secretary in the Cabinet (Labor)

• Eleanor Roosevelt – FDR’s wife who became his eyes and ears to problems & supported women’s causes

warm up 3/26/12• If the New Deal didn’t fix the Great

Depression, then why is it remembered as a significant government program?

• It gave people hope that the government was trying to help. It provided jobs and welfare for those needing it the most. It did great public work like parks, highways, electricity to rural areas. We still benefit today from some of the projects. We still have Social Security and banking insurance today.

The 1920’s were a time of new riches and technology for some people.

Various events led to the Great Depression and the crash of the Stock Market.

The G.D. affected various groups of people.

FDR’s New Deal gave hope to people suffering during the G.D. even if it didn’t fix the economy.
