THIS EVENING’S SOLOISTS

Devon ValdezDevon Valdez started playing

piano at the age of seven. In 2010 hebegan studying at Virtuoso PianoStudio, under the guidance of hiscurrent teacher, Dr. MarinaGrozdanovic. Since then he hasparticipated in numerous recitals,festivals and competitions in the LosAngeles area. In 2013, he was a

winner of the Southern California Junior Bach Festival,MTAC West Valley branch. The following year he wonthe regional Southern California Junior Bach Festivaland in 2015, at the age of 15, he was the winner at theMTAC West Valley Concerto Competition. Devonparticipates annually in the MTAC Certificate of Meritprogram and is currently preparing for level 9.

Devon is currently a sophomore and straight Ahonor student, and competes for his high school's ScienceBowl team. In his spare time, he enjoys bowling andcompetes in several yearly tournaments. And, of course,he loves listening to classical music whenever he can.

Isaac YunIsaac Yun is a 17 year old senior

presently attending West Ranch HighSchool. He has been studying thecello under the instruction of RachaelLonergan for seven years, afterdeciding that the violin was not bestsuited for him. He has successfullycompleted the Certificate of Meritthrough the highest level and has

qualified for the Certificate of Merit Annual Conventionthree years in a row. He has been a member of the OpenAcademy Youth Orchestra, CSUN Philharmonic, andis currently enrolled in the Colburn Music School YouthOrchestra.

Outside of his musical life, Isaac is engaged innumerous school clubs and organizations such asNational Honors Society and Do Something. He hasbeen an active community service volunteer; picking uptrash along Castaic Lake, and volunteering at communitylibrary events. He also volunteers weekly at the OldTown Newhall Public Library. He hopes to attend eitherUniversity of California San Diego or NortheasternUniversity with a major in Pharmacy.

Aliya HunterAliya Hunter was born in the San Fernando Valley

and has been playing cello for seven years. She startedstudying under Madeline Sarkisian and has now beenstudying with Rachael Lonergan for almost six years. Shehas played in several classical ensembles, including theMoonlight String Quartet which is centered in theWestlake and Thousand Oaks areas, and has also beenfeatured on highly acclaimed singer/songwriter Zanny’sEP “All the Ghosts.” She has attended the National Cello

Institute for three years, where her pasttwo solo performances have receivedstanding ovations. She is currentlyprinciple cellist in the Conejo ValleyYouth Orchestra and has participatedin solo competitions such as LAVS andSYMF, in which she received thirdplace in 2012.

She is sixteen years old and a juniorat Santa Susana High School, where

she is undecided in her career choice. In her spare time,she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, hanging out with herfriends, cooking, watching movies and reading. She isextremely grateful to the San Fernando Valley SymphonyOrchestra for giving her this incredible opportunity.

About the San Fernando ValleySymphony Orchestra

The San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestrahas been offering Southern California audiencesexceptional performances of classical masterworks as well as new music compositions for over30 years. Led by founder-conductor JamesDomine, the artistic ensemble provides a highlyrespected showcase for top-notchinstrumentalists, vocalists, composers, conductorsand music educators. The Orchestra’s yearlyconcert series features symphonic, operatic, andballet repertoire.

Aside from providing the community withcritically acclaimed concerts, the Orchestra hasbeen featured in dramatic productions andBroadway musicals. The dedicated musicians alsowork in collaboration with community serviceorganizations and local business establishments toproduce and stage community outreach programsdesigned for diverse audiences of all ages.
