SERVING IN THE U.S. AIR FORCE
Robert Stout joined the U.S. Air Force on June 7,
1965 following his graduation from Chester County
High School in Henderson, TN. He attended Basic in
San Antonio, TX and then to Technical School in Ama-
rillo, TX for Administrative Specialist. Then he was
sent to Blytheville, AR and then to Viet Nam in De-
cember 1967 and stayed for about a year. He was in the
Nha Trang, Viet Nam. He served 3-1/2 years and was
discharged immediately after he came home from Viet
Nam.
Betty Troup (formerly Betty Ellis) entered the U. S.
Air Force in 1952. She served in active duty until 1955,
but remained in the Reserves. She was called to active
duty from 1958-1960 in Okinawa. She made Captain
while she was in Okinawa and attained the rank of Ma-
jor as Chief Nurse of Reserve Base at Carswell Air
Force Base. She resigned her commission in 1963.
Floyd Weaver joined the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 12,
1959 following his graduation from Memphis State. He
attended Undergraduate Pilot Training and received his
Silver Wings as an Air Force pilot in Nov. 1960. From
Jan. 1961 until his retirement on May 1, 1986, he
served as a pilot flying various heavy transport type
aircraft, including the WB-50D, C-124, T-39, C-141,
C-118A, and the C-5A, as well as filling various staff
positions. His first assignment was with the Weather
Recon Unit at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, CA. He
flew missions to determine the strength and movement
of hurricanes, the atmospheric effect of atomic tests
being done by the Americans, Russians, and the
French, as well as weather surveillance for the first
American Mercury space orbital flights. He also flew
weather missions around the island of Cuba during the
Cuban Missile crisis in 1962. Then he was transferred
to aircraft transport where he flew support missions
into Vietnam. He was assigned to a Rescue Center near
DaNang from 1968-1969. Assignment locations includ-
ed Travis AFB, CA, Charleston AFB, SC, and Torrejon

AB, Spain for 3 years. Floyd retired as a Lt. Colonel
with 26+ years of active service and 13,000+ hours of
flying time. Since his retirement, he worked as a con-
tractor providing C-5 crew training for the Air Force
and is now training the Memphis Air National Guard at
the Memphis International Airport.
SERVING IN THE U.S. ARMY
Vladimir Carey joined the U. S. Army right out of
high school and completed boot camp at Ft. Jackson,
SC in August of 2016. His first assignment was on Au-
gust 4th at Fort Bliss, TX as a Field Artillery Automat-
ed Tactical Data System Specialist. He was deployed to
Kuwait on October 26th where he is currently serving.

Lonnie Gaither was drafted by the U. S. Army in
1955. He served 16 months with the 7th Infantry Divi-
sion, 73rd Tank Battalion in South Korea. He was dis-
charged in 1957 after serving for two years as a SP3-C.

Noel Martin served in the U.S. Army for six years
beginning in 1958 through 1964. He was called to ac-
tive duty for one year in 1961-1962 at the beginning of
the Cuban Crisis. During that time he was stationed at
Fort Rucker, Alabama with the 844th Engineering Bat-
talion. His was a construction engineer.
Joseph M. (Mike) McBride served in the U. S. Army
Security Agency from July, 1953 through July, 1975.
He served in United States, Germany, Italy, Korea, and
Vietnam. He was decorated with the bronze star, air
medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Commenda-
tion Medal with Oakleaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal
(3 awards), Army of Occupation Medal, and the Na-
tional Defense & Vietnam Service Medals. Upon dis-
charge, he was a Chief Warrant Officer, 3 (CW3).
John L. Morris was drafted into the Army during
World War II on December 7, 1944. He did his infantry
basic training (boot camp) at Camp Wolters, TX. After
basic training, he was assigned to Camp Wolters. From
there he was deployed to Presidio of Monterey, CA for
a short time and then sent to Fort Sill, OK where he
was stationed until his discharge on August 23, 1946.
At the time of his discharge, he was a Corporal.
Anthony P. Rogers enlisted in the U. S. Army on De-
cember 27, 1995 at the age of 34. His father refused to
let him join so he had to wait until his passing to enlist.
Boot camp was at Fort Knox but on the day before
graduation, he was called home for the birth of his first
child so he never received a diploma. He went in as an
E3 and was promoted to E4 1-1/2 years later. He was
36 hours before going to Bosnia Kosovo but didn’t go.
He was assigned to a tank company as leader on a
M1A1 Abrams and trained up to the MIA2 Abrams. He
received the good conduct medal. He was relieved sev-
eral times because he was too slow to load the 72 tons
of raw steel. He served in Troop C (Crazy Horse) and
he went through two different platoons. He was in
HHT for a while and then Delta Company where he
stayed until they sent him to the psychic ward for 30
days. He was honorably discharged on March 28, 2000.
His first duty station was Ft. Carson, CO and he re-
members the very cold winters.

SERVING IN THE U.S. MARINES
Rick Arnett joined the U. S. Marine Corps in June of
1967 and completed boot camp at Parris Island, SC. He
served in Vietnam from February, 1969 until March,
1970. During his time there, he flew over 200 missions
as a crew chief on a CH46 helicopter (Seaknight) earn-
ing him his Air Crew Wings. His duty stations included
New River, NC, Millington, TN, Santa Anna, CA, Ka-
neohe, HI and Quantico, VA. He also did one tour on
the USS Guadalcanal. Rick’s last duty station was in
Quantico, VA with HMX-1 Presidential Helicopter
Squadron where he flew Henry Kissinger and other
members of President Richard Nixon’s cabinet. He was
honorably discharged in February, 1976 as an E-5 Sgt.
Chuck Barnett enlisted in the U. S. Marines on July 7,
1981 and was immediately shipped to Parris Island, SC
for boot camp. He completed boot camp on Nov. 12th
and was sent to AIT at Camp Pendleton, CA followed
by Sea School at MCRD in San Diego, CA. He was
assigned to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. He met the
ship in Haifa, Israel. Some of his ports of call were
Naples, Italy, Athens, Greece, Monaco, France, Alex-
andria, Egypt, and Rota, Spain. He returned to Ft. Sto-
ry, VA for extensive combat training. In Feb. 1983, he
was sent on a Mediterranean cruise that would forever
change his life. They were in Naples when they re-
ceived word that the Marine barracks in Beirut was
blown up by terrorists. The next morning they awoke to
the sound of catapults launching attack aircraft flying
sorties over Beirut. At the same time, Mohmar Khadafi
decided to rattle his saber in Tripoli. They were at sea
for 124 days straight. Then he was sent for more com-
bat training and rifle qualifying. He reported to Camp
Lejune, NC and was placed in India Company 3rd Bat-
talion, 6th Marines Rifle Co. Next was Guantanomo
Bay, Cuba to provide perimeter security. He was dis-
charged from Camp Lejune, NC on June 28, 1984.

SERVING IN THE NATIONAL GUARD
Cole Champion enlisted in the Tennessee National
Guard in March of 2006. He completed his basic train-
ing in August of the same year. He plans to complete
his Advanced Infantry Training and Airborne Infantry
Training this summer. His infantry unit is the Queen of
Battle. He enlisted and completed his boot camp prior
to graduating from his senior year of high school. He is
currently a PFC, and his goal is to be commissioned as
an Army Ranger.
Larry Dallas joined the National Guard in 1975. He
went to boot camp and ALT in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
He was then duty stationed in Memphis one weekend a
month for 6 years. Every year he went to a two week
training session in the summer months at Ft. Sill, Okla-
homa and Camp Shelby, Mississippi. During his stint
in the National Guard, his unit was called up to protect
the Memphis area during a policeman and fireman
strike. Larry was a Sgt. when he was discharged.
SERVING IN THE U.S. NAVY
Norris Bruff joined the U. S. Navy in 1967. He com-
pleted boot camp in Memphis, TN. He was assigned to
the U.S.S. Bon Hommer Richard which was an aircraft
carrier. He served in the aviation wing and was sent on
two tours of Vietnam. He was discharged as an E-3 in
1970.

Will Champion enlisted in the U. S. Navy in June,
1972 and retired as a Captain in July, 1996. His most
memorable tour was as a Lieutenant landing signal
offices and teaching Navy flight students to land on
aircraft carriers.
Clifford M. McKinney joined the U.S. Navy on Aug.
19, 1971 and completed his boot camp at San Diego,
CA on Nov. 11, 1971. Some of his duty stations were:
Naval Station Midway Island, Naval Mobile Construc-
tion, Battalion 5 & 40, Port Hueneme, CA, Naval Sta-
tion Adak, Alaska, Naval Facility Centerville Beach,
CA, Naval Station Pearl Harbor, HI, Naval Communi-
cation Station Harold E. Holt, Australia, and the Naval
Training Center, Great Lakes, IL. He advanced to an E-
7 Builder Chief in 1988 and retired on February 28,
1993 as a BUC-SCW after serving 20 years, 9 months.
Regina McKinney (formerly Regina Skinner) served
in the U. S. Navy from January, 1980 until June, 1990.
She was awarded the Joint Service Commendation
Medal, (2) Navy Achievement Medals and (2) Good
Conduct Medals. Her duty stations were Orlando, FL,
Norfolk, VA, Camp Smith, HI, and Long Beach, CA.
Her rank at discharge was YN2.
Rhinard Troup entered the U.S. Navy on July 16,
1952. He served 3-1/2 years and was discharged on
Sept. 2, 1955. He completed boot camp at Great Lakes
Naval Training Base and was assigned to Norman, OK
for Airman training. Then he was sent to Photography
School in Pensacola, FL and was assigned to Photo Lab
at Naval Air Station in Pensacola. He was later trans-
ferred to Whiting Field, Milton, FL where he was sta-
tioned with his brother, Dick Troup, until his discharge.
