“If My people… Humble themselves
and turn”(2Chr 7:14) If my people, which are called by
my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked
ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Great Prayer Pattern No. 1
David's Prayer of Repentance: Psalm 51
PART ONE: THE STORY OF DAVID’S
SIN!2 Samuel 11 & 12
•DAVID’S SIN … Fueled by Distraction
2 Samuel 11:1-5
David’s Distraction: • Time when men our in battle > Verse 1• Got his eyes away from obedience • Wanted something that was forbidden
(Rebellion and sin) • This distraction led to sin … which leads
to death! James 1:13-15
• DAVID’S FIRST ATTEMPT TO COVERUP … (Verses 6-9)
David’s Cover up Fails:• We can never hide our sin from God.
(Psalm 51:3) • Our plans to be disobedient always
expose our wrong doing! (Ephesians 5:11;13)
• DAVID’S SECOND ATTEMPT TO COVER UP HIS SIN …
(Verses 10-13)
TRUTH: “When we continue to walk away from our Lord we dig a deeper and deeper hole that
shallows us up.”
• DAVID’S THIRD AND FOURTH ATTEMPT TO COVER UP HIS
SIN … (Verses 14-20)
The Consequences of continuing to cover up sin:• Our lies don’t just harm us they injure
others as well. • Innocent people can be harmed!
The lengths we go to cover up our sin shows our desperate state of rebellion!
• DAVID ASSUMES HIS PLAN HAS WORKED … (Verses 26-
27)
• TRUTH: Sin can bring pleasure for a season, but its payday is
coming!
• DAVID IS CONFRONTED ABOUT HIS SIN … By Nathan the Prophet (He tells a story)
2 Samuel 12:1-7
(2 Samuel 12: 5) Then David became very angry at this man. He said to
Nathan, “As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die! 6)
Because he committed this cold-hearted crime, he must pay for the lamb four times over!” 7) Nathan said to David,
“You are that man!
• DAVID RECKONIZES HIS SIN BEFORE GOD …
(2Sam 12:13) Then David exclaimed to Nathan, “I have sinned against the
LORD!” Nathan replied to David, “Yes, and the LORD has forgiven your sin.
You are not going to die.
Personal Test of a humble spirit:• Are you seeing your life through God’s
eyes?• Have you allowed God to reveal to you your
place of sin and rebellion? • Are you ready to return to a right
relationship with Him?• If so, will you humble yourself and turn
away from your thinking and embrace repentance?
