RICH CHINESE HISTORY
The Great Wall
of China was
first built in 220‐
226 BC. Most of
the wall was
built during the
Ming Dynasty to
keep invaders
out of the
empire.
RICH CHINESE HISTORY
The Terracotta Army was first discovered by local farmers in 1974 in the center of China.
The figures date back to as early as 210 BC. Historians believe that the army was built out of
clay for the first emperor of China, Qin. The government built the army to protect the
emperor in ruling the afterlife.
Historians believe there are about 7,000 clay figures; ranging from tallest to shortest based
on rank in the army. All figures have unique human features including clothing, facial
expressions, weapons, and animals.

CHINA’S ONE CHILD POLICY
China's one child policy was
established by Chinese leader
Deng Xiaoping in 1979 to limit
communist China's population
growth. Although designated a
"temporary measure," it
continues a quarter‐century
after its establishment. The
policy limits couples to one
child. Fines, pressures to abort
a pregnancy, and even forced
sterilization accompanied
second or subsequent
pregnancies.
