President’s Message

Dear Members,

The Board of Directors will meet on April 27th to discuss possible

dates when we may safely reopen our Center. The date will depend

on both the City of Palm Bay reopening its buildings and the medical

recommendations being provided daily by the CDC regarding Covid-

19. The biggest concern will be how to provide activities should

Social Distancing continue to be the best way to prevent the spread

of the virus. With the majority of our members being over 65, some

of whom have underlying medical conditions, we must adhere to the

recommendations of the medical professionals.

Once the Center reopens, it will be the responsibility of all members

to be proactive in regard to maintaining safe and sanitary conditions.

This will include, but is not limited to, not coming to the Center when

you are ill, frequently washing hands, supervisors ensuring supplies

are new or have been sanitized, disinfecting tables prior to utilizing

them, throwing trash away in the large cans, not leaving food/drinks

in rooms following an activity, disinfecting work spaces (including

telephones and computers), and basic hygiene. It would be

impossible and unfair for our volunteers to monitor and disinfect all

areas being used by our members and guests. Volunteers will have

additional responsibilities to monitor and clean their work areas, but

cleanliness is expected from everyone.

We believe that the best way to keep our members informed of the

reopening date and restrictions would be for members to utilize the

GPBSC website (www.gpbsc.org). Our 1st VP, Ken Parnell, will

continue to update the front page of that site during this time.

I look forward to the day our Center reopens and we can all meet

again and share our lives in a positive manner.
