With reference to the Teachers’ Day being observed today, Tarigami has said while govern- ment must honour its commitment towards teach- ers’ community including lecturers, headmasters, masters, teachers, ReTs and EVs; the teachers should also honor their pious profession and live up to their professional standards. He said the government must concede to the genuine demands of ReTs. The CPI (M) leader rued that the initial five years service of ReTs is not given effect for inclusion in their service records thwarting them from the promotional benefits. “Compared to 135 days maternity leave with full wages for General line teachers ReT’s are being provided with only one month maternity leave without wages which is against the principle of social security,” he said and demanded due con- sideration regarding transfer of female ReTs to their respective areas after marriage deserves due consideration. He also expressed concern over the non-payment of wages to teachers working under SSA scheme. Tarigami also criticized the government for not issuing the confirmation orders to Education Volunteers who have completed their initial years of service as ReTs. He said delay in their confirma- tion breeds “disgust and dejection, which tells upon their performance and work culture.” “Future glimpses of progress and prosper- ity of a nation could be gauged from the level of commitment of its teachers. Higher commitment on their part leads to faster progress and develop- ment,” he said. Maintaining that quality education and uni- versalization of education should go hand in hand, Tarigami highlighted the need to have strict moni- toring mechanism in place to see to it that quality education is imparted in government schools. This, he said would help to develop efficient human resources capable of shoulder- ing major socio-economic and political responsi- bilities. He stressed the need to curb the growing trend of privatisation and commercialization of education in Jammu and Kashmir. “It is a matter of concern that the teachers working in most of the private schools are paid meager salaries and the job insecurity always looms large over their heads. Govt must fulfill its obligation towards teachers: Tarigami Government of Jammu & Kashmir State Level Nodal Agency for Integrated Watershed Management Programme Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Old Secretariat, Srinagar Tel: 0194-2471418 E-mail [email protected] Subject: Contractual Engagement of Watershed Development Team Members in Kashmir Division Batch-V. STRENGTHENING THE STRUCTURE

World TeacherS day

Srinagar, Sept 5: Expressing serious concern over the plight of teachers, CPI (M) State Secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami has said the govern-ment must fulfil its obligation of safeguarding the genuine service interests of this most suffering community. With reference to the Teachers’ Day being observed today, Tarigami has said while govern-ment must honour its commitment towards teach-ers’ community including lecturers, headmasters, masters, teachers, ReTs and EVs; the teachers should also honor their pious profession and live up to their professional standards. He said the government must concede to the genuine demands of ReTs. The CPI (M) leader rued that the initial five years service of ReTs is not given effect for inclusion in their service records thwarting them from the promotional benefits.

“Compared to 135 days maternity leave with full wages for General line teachers ReT’s are being provided with only one month maternity leave without wages which is against the principle of social security,” he said and demanded due con-sideration regarding transfer of female ReTs to their respective areas after marriage deserves due consideration. He also expressed concern over the non-payment of wages to teachers working under SSA scheme. Tarigami also criticized the government for not issuing the confirmation orders to Education Volunteers who have completed their initial years of service as ReTs. He said delay in their confirma-tion breeds “disgust and dejection, which tells upon their performance and work culture.” “Future glimpses of progress and prosper-ity of a nation could be gauged from the level of

commitment of its teachers. Higher commitment on their part leads to faster progress and develop-ment,” he said. Maintaining that quality education and uni-versalization of education should go hand in hand, Tarigami highlighted the need to have strict moni-toring mechanism in place to see to it that quality education is imparted in government schools. This, he said would help to develop efficient human resources capable of shoulder-ing major socio-economic and political responsi-bilities. He stressed the need to curb the growing trend of privatisation and commercialization of education in Jammu and Kashmir. “It is a matter of concern that the teachers working in most of the private schools are paid meager salaries and the job insecurity always looms large over their heads.
