Green Globe Certification Standard – Audit Report
1
Introduction
Green Globe is the premier worldwide certification program developed specifically for the
travel and tourism industry. Green Globe assists organizations to improve their economic,
social and environmental sustainability while being rewarded and recognized for it.
The Green Globe Certification Standard provides Hotel and Resort organizations with a
framework to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their environmental sustainability
performance, through which they can monitor improvements and achieve certification
Purpose of this Document
The purpose of this document is designed to determine if The Samaya Bali Seminyak has
achieved the requirements of the Green Globe Certification Standard. This report has been
prepared by Judith Schneider, an accredited third party Green Globe auditor.
The Green Globe Certification Standard includes mandatory core criteria supported by over
320 compliance indicators.
To be fully certified under the Green Globe Certification Standard, business name must
comply with each of the core criteria by achieving a compliance score of over 50% for the
related indicators. A number of critical indicators are also mandatory and each of these
must be complied with to achieve certification.
Additional details of the completed Green Globe Certification Standard, including the
individual compliance scores, are contained within the Green Globe online certification
system.
Should business name be required to complete corrective actions for major non-
conformance to the Standard, an interim audit report may be provided by the auditor. Once
all major non-conformance issues are resolved, a copy of the final report will be sent to the
The Samaya Bali Seminyak for approval.
The auditor will then send a recommendation to the Green Globe Certification Manager for
review and the awarding of Green Globe Certification.

Green Globe Certification Standard – Audit Report
5
Corrective Actions
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions must be monitored within the next 3 months and should be
compensated
- Customers should be informed more about their environmental and social efforts to
encourage participation in saving energy, as air condition is using a very high amount of
energy
Observations
- It was great to see how much initiative the Green Team is taking in many different projects,
as:
Growing endangered plants with recycling plastic bottles being used as flowerpots
Making their own organic fertilizer
Working closely together with tourism schools by providing sustainability training
as well as Aids awareness classes
Supporting the turtle conservation organization; building rainwater collection
tanks
Participating on Earth Day with education on sustainability for staff and cleaning
the surrounding of the hotel including the beach
General waste reduction, and more.
- The friendliness and professionalism of all staff is extraordinary. It is obvious that the
management is doing a great job at training and working on the overall wellbeing of
employees.
- The health and safety standard can be considered as very high.
- Overall: Great job everybody!!
Auditor Recommendations
- Customers should be informed better about the customs of Indonesian/Balinese culture,
and cultural tours could be offered. Further guests should be encouraged to visit protected
areas in Bali.
- The communications strategy about all green efforts should be improved by letting
customers know what is in for them
- The purchase of local products can be encouraged better, e.g. by inviting trusted vendors
to sell goods at the restaurant area twice a week
- Energy consumption can be reduced by small changes as e.g. turning on fewer lights when
guests come back to their room at night, encouraging guests to turn their air condition off
when they leave their villas etc.
- A couple of options for the calculation of Greenhouse Gas emissions have been given to
the hotel (websites, excel sheet)
Green Globe Certification Standard – Audit Report
6
- Sustainable energy production seems to be on the rise in Bali. It can be expected that within
the next two years, solar panels will be available, including a support/repair team and green
energy can be obtained
- Plastic water bottles in the reception area can be avoided by a water dispenser
