PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Welcome back to school. I trust you all had a relaxing and fun-filled school holiday break. Term 2 is going to be another jam-packed term full of engaging activities across KLAs for GVPS students. There are excursions, Cross Country, ICAS assessments, assemblies and many more events taking place this
term, so please take note of key dates.
Miss Borrello has successfully gained a two day Instructional Leader role at Horsley Park Public School. Mr Michael Babic will be teaching 4/5B on a Wednesday and Thursday for the remainder of the year.
Last Friday GVPS held an Anzac Day assembly that highlighted the sacrifice of those that have fallen in war and for all the men and women who continue to serve to maintain peace and freedom. Parents and teachers both commented on the commendable behaviour and respect shown by our students.
Last year schools across the Fowler electorate came together to work on an exhibit of artworks. The theme of the project was the importance of “Not taking Peace for Granted” and honouring the ANZAC tradition. GVPS participated and the Stage 3 drama group came 2nd and the Stage 2 singing group came 3rd. The school has received a commemorative 100 years of ANZAC plaque to put in our garden. Congratulations to all involved!
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) will be taking place in week three for year three and year five students. Students will be assessed on Language conventions and writing, Reading and Numeracy. NAPLAN parent reports will be distributed in August. We wish all students well as they sit this national assessment.
There is a P&C meeting this Wednesday in the school’s staffroom. All parents are welcome to attend. The P&C are also running a Mother’s Day stall on Thursday. Classes will be called down to the hall with the opportunity to purchase a small gift for mum’s special day this Sunday.
We wish the aerobics team the best of luck as they participate in the Aerobics Preliminary Finals this Saturday the 7th May at Sutherland Entertainment Centre. The teachers and students have put in a lot of energy and hard work in preparation for this event. I am looking forward to seeing them on stage, displaying their skill and vigour.

Issue 5 - Term 2 Week 2 Monday 2nd May 2016
On a final note I would like ask parents to use the school crossing before and after school. Green Valley Road is exceptionally busy in the afternoons and I see parents weaving in and out of busy traffic with their children. Please keep safe and avoid accidents by using the crossing.

Mrs Whittle retired on the last day of Term 1 after 39 years of service in the Department of Education. We hope her retirement is the start of a wonderful and exciting new chapter in her life.
ANZAC SERVICE
We commemorated ANZAC Day with a whole school service on Friday 29th April. Our special guest Mr Geoff Gray shared why it is important to never forget the contributions of those who have served their country.
BONNYRIGG FIRE &
RESCUE NSW
70 Gloucester Street Bonnyrigg Heights.
Are hosting their annual Fire Station Open Day on Saturday 21st May 2016 between 10am and
2pm. Children and their parents are invited to
watch fire safety demonstrations, hop aboard our station’s fire
truck, hold a fire hose, pick up a Brigade Kids fire safety activity
booklet and LEGO City Mini figures. Chat with fire fighters
about what they do and watch fire safety demonstrations and road
crash rescue scenarios.
This is a fantastic opportunity for
children and their parents to meet their
local fire fighters and with winter just
around the corner, which is the worst
time of year for house fires, this is a great opportunity to learn as much as you can
about home fire safety.
Visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au to find your nearest 2016 Open Day
participating station.
