Issue 1 Term 1 Week 3 Monday 10th February 2020

SCHOOL INFORMATION PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

It was terrific to be able to put students into their set clas-ses for the year last week. We did however make changes to the way years 1 and 2 classes look. We needed to create a 1/2 composite class to spread the students in these grade more evenly across the classes.

This now means that classes are set for the year and unless there was a vast increase in enrolments throughout the year, we would not need to make any further changes.

We are going to try a new approach to our annual meet the teacher night this year. The main difference this year is that teachers will be in their classrooms from 3.15pm until 6pm on Wednesday 19th February, where they will be available for you to drop in to meet them.

The purpose of the afternoon is to give you a chance to call in a meet your child's teacher and clarify any questions you may have about what is expected for your child for 2020.

On Monday 17th February a stage newsletter will be sent home with all the relevant details for the grade for the year. This newsletter should contain answers to most of the questions you want to find out about the year ahead for your child.

We’d love to see as many families as possible coming to meet their child’s class teacher and have a BBQ with us to start the year.

The BBQ will be available from around 4pm until 5:30pm.

Please note: Year 6-7 information and application forms for high school will be handed out at this information afternoon.

Hope to see you on Wednesday this week at 9am for the P&C meeting or next Wednesday afternoon for the meet the teacher BBQ.

HIGH SCHOOL 2021 APPLICATIONS

Applications will be sent home at the meet the teacher afternoon next Wednesday 19th February. All applications need to be returned to our school office by Friday 20th March. It is important that these applications are returned on or before this day so students do not miss the round 1 (choice 1) placement opportunities.

CROSSING THE ROAD SAFELY AFTER SCHOOL Before and after school we have a crossing guard who helps students and community members safely across the road. Please make sure you teach your children safe road habits by using this facility. In the interests of your child’s safety and yours, please use the crossing and don’t risk crossing between traffic where the cars pull in to pick up children. The last thing we want is for someone to be hit by a vehicle when there is a perfectly safe way to teach children to cross just 50 metres down the road.

SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Parents and carers in public schools have the right to have their child receive instruction in their preferred religious persuasion, where authorised teachers of that persuasion are available.

A Special Religious Education (SRE) program is available at Green Valley Public School and is run by authorised volun-teers of approved religious persuasions. For details about the specific SRE programs, please see below. Alternatively, parents may choose for their child not to attend SRE classes.

At Green Valley Public School, the SRE program is delivered on Wednesdays from 2.00pm to 2.30pm. SRE classes in 2020 start in Term 1 Week 5.

During the time that SRE classes are being held, there will be no academic instruction delivered or formal school activities. Children will therefore not be missing any class work by attending SRE classes. Students attending non-SRE classes will participate in meaningful activities such as reading, private study or completing their own work.

During the year, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE classes should be given to the class teacher in writing.

In 2020, the following SRE classes are offered at Green Valley Public School. Follow the link for further information about the curriculum.
