Green i$ Greener” – Finding Money in your building830aM | rOOM 117/118

“the marketplace shift to green (commercial real estate) is gathering force. Massive obsolescence is looming. profits are there for the taking. it’s time to act.”- Charles Lockwood, “As Green as the Grass Outside”, Barron’s.

Learn more about how renovating “green” can have a positive financial impact on your bottom line. Bringing an exist-ing building up to green code will reduce operating costs, enhance asset value and profits. Another benefit is the improvement of employee productivity and satisfaction. “Green” renovations optimize life-cycle economic performance and improve air, thermal, and acoustic environments. We will explore, through case study analysis, how “green” initiatives in water, lighting, and HVAC can help reduce your bottom line.

Legal, zoning and other impediments to building Green 2pM | rOOM 114

Today there is much emphasis placed on developing green buildings and re-commissioning existing buildings to meet Green Building Standards such as LEED. Many organizations are faced with today’s economic realities and are unable to in-vest resources or money into such programs to become green. busting the Myth that Green Costs More & Con-tinuous Commissioning 10aM | rOOM 117/118Buildings are one of the largest consumers of resources and energy in this country, and according to the AIA (American Institute of Architects) are responsible for almost half of all carbon emissions in the United States. Since Americans spend nearly 90 percent of their lives indoors, buildings are clearly important to our way of life. The most common misconception about green building is that these approaches cost more to implement than traditional strategies and techniques of design and construction. This session offers an overview of Continuous Commissioning®, a patented and licensed on-going process developed by Texas A&M University to resolve operating problems, improve comfort and optimize energy use that requires no capital investment. Typical savings are 20% to 40% and paybacks are usually less than 3 years. Attend this session and learn how you can save money and optimize building efficiencies.

Achieving good indoor air quality is no simple task and must be managed from the planning stages, through construction and beyond. Schools, healthcare facilities, hotels and hospitals all benefit from a healthier balance of indoor and outdoor air. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is determined by an array of processes, products, and natural occurrences in buildings. Indoor air quality can support healthy, happy, comfortable people who can live, work and play better in indoor spaces. While this is a worthy objective in and of itself, it also results in sizable bottom line benefits to all players involved: building owners, facility managers, design and construction professionals and insurance companies, just to name a few. Learn how you can save money in your building with improved IAQ.
