If you are in 9th-12th grade and are interested in giving back to your community, helping younger Greene Coun-ty 4-Hers, gaining leadership experiences, and having fun, then go ahead and join the Greene County Young Leaders! Applications are due by September 15th, 2019, and can be found at the Extension Office.

Shooting Sports Meeting
SUNDAY, August 25, 2019
Greene County Shooting Sports is partnering with Boone
County Shooting Sports!!
Shooting Sports Club will meet on Sunday, August 25,
2019 from 2:30-4:30pm at Clover Woods in Madrid,
IA .
The Greene County Shooting Sports Instructors will meet
at the Greene County Extension Office at 1:30pm to pick
up anyone who needs a ride.
Each member and their guardian will need to sign a
new waiver. Families may pick up and sign forms at the
Extension Office during office hours.

Online Re-Enrollment in 4-H
Online Re-enrollment starts in September! Re-enrollment process is ALL ONLINE. Please go to the Iowa 4-H page and you will find the re-enrollment help sheet on the 4hOnline tab under “About 4hOnline.” If you have questions, call the Extension Office during office hours – Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm or e-mail [email protected]. If you need extra help, plan to make an appointment with Extension Staff to enroll online. The online re-enrollment process AND the re-enrollment fee are BOTH due Tuesday, November 15th, 2017. There will be a $25.00 late fee per family if you enroll after November 15th.
Step to Follow for Re-Enrollment:
Complete online enrollment information through your family account.
Make sure your enrollment status says “pending” when you are done. If it says “incomplete” you need to go back through and make sure you com-pleted the correct fields.
Bring your $15 Enrollment Fee to the Extension Of-fice.(make checks payable to, “Greene County Extension”)
Extension Staff will change your status to “active” when you complete the online enrollment pro-cess.
Members need to complete the online enrollment AND the enrollment fee payment by Monday, November 15th. A late of $25.00 per family will be in place after November 15h.

Please make sure that you mark exactly what projects you are interested in on
4-HOnline. You will only receive specific information about the project areas that
you are signed up for.
If you are on the fence about a project, it is best to sign up for it so you receive the
information.

Scholarships/ Financial Aid Assistance
The Greene County 4-H Foundation makes scholarships available each year to all 4-H members who participate
in pre-approved 4-H trips, camps, and conferences at any level. Members are able to utilize one scholarship per 4-H year. These scholarships are possible thanks to numer-
ous generous donations, as well as proceeds from the Clover Café. Contact the Extension Office if you would
like to utilize a scholarship.

Need an idea for a presentation or want to do a fun ac-tivity with your club? Greene County is offering 6 differ-ent STEM To Go Kits that are available for youth, leader
or community partners to check out and use.

2019-2020 Enrollment Fees
For the past several years, four local donors have given generously to the Greene County 4-H program. Instead
of the regular $35 annual enrollment fee, Greene County
4-H’ers have to pay only $15 per member to be in
4-H. Donors Names will be announced in the September Newsletter.

October 6th-12th, 2019

How can you get involved throughout the week?
Decorate Store Windows in Greene County
Please go into your communities and let people know that it is National 4-H Week! The club that wins will be announced at the 4-H Awards Ceremony in November and will also receive a free pizza party!
Wear your 4-H T-shirt during National 4-H Week, Post on Social Media!
What a perfect week to show off your 4-H green by wearing your 4-H shirts! You never know who could be in the schools looking for 4-H shirts! Post a picture of you wearing your 4-H shirt on social media using the hashtag #GC4HGrowsLeaders. All 4-H’ers that partici-pate in our social media contest will be eligible to win a prize. The winner will be announced at Awards Day on October 21st.
Refer a New Member to Greene County 4-H
Do you know someone interested in 4-H? When they complete their enrollment information and let me know what 4-Her they were referred by, that 4-H’er will get their name into a drawing to win prizes!
If you have more ideas of contests and ways to spread the word about 4-H, let us know!
YQCA Update
Iowa 4-H is offering a new addition to the FSQA pro-
gram called YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Ani-
mals). YQCA is an online training program so youth can
get certified at home.
YQCA requires all youth to recertify every year.

Partnering with JoAnn Fabric
Customers can get a free 4-H Reward Card that will
allow them to receive a 15% discount on their total in-
store and online purchases every day. A minimum of
2.5% goes back to 4-H as a donation. 30% of the
donation goes to the National 4-H Council and the other
70% goes to the state 4-H program. So this is a win/win
situation for everyone. Also during February, customers
can purchase a $1 or $4 Valentine’s Day Paper
Clover. For those that purchase the $4 clover, they will
receive a coupon for $4 off their next purchase. Go to

Attention All Exhibitors! The record book due date is the
Tuesday after Labor Day, September 3, 2019. Please
be sure to have your record books turned in on time!
Record what you have learned and accomplished this past year in 4-H by completing your 4-H record book! Record keeping forms, help sheets, award packets, and examples can be found at the Extension Office and also on the Greene County 4-H website. Record Keeping Forms ARE NOW AVIALABLE!
There has been an update to the 2019 Record Book
process.
Again this year:
4-H’ers can put their goal sheets from the county fair in
their record book INSTEAD of rewriting their project
records on a new form.

MAJOR LIFE SKILLS AWARDS (Grades 9-12)
Achievement
To recognize young people who have grown personally through participation in a 4-H projects and programs.
Agriculture
To recognize young people who have growth personally through participation in a variety of agricultural projects and programs.
Ak-Sar-Ben
To recognize 4-H members who are making significant progress toward maturity in leadership through their service for the advancement of the 4-H program in their county or area. Evidence of service as a local club officer, county council member (Young Leaders), junior leader, and participation in county or area camping programs, achievement shows, county fairs, and other events. Recipient need not be an Ak-Sar-Ben participant, but active in local or county levels; ar-ea and/or state are optional.
Overall Merit
To recognize those 4-H members whose accomplishments reflect significant personal growth, active citizenship, club and community leadership, competency in project work and unselfish services to 4-H members and others.
Overall Citizenship
To recognize 4-Hers who become aware of relationships to others (family, peers, state, nation and world), and acquire life skills essential to becoming an active, responsible citizen. 4-Her should demonstrate social responsibility and re-spect, and respond to the needs, rights and responsibilities of others.
Overall Leadership
To recognize 4-Hers who identify and understand roles, attitudes, tasks, and functions necessary for effective leadership; and should strengthen local 4-H units in leadership responsibilities and encouraging other youth. 4-Her participates in program planning, development and implementation, and helps recruit new 4-H members and leaders.
Overall Record Keeping
To recognize 4-Hers who have shown outstanding record keeping performance over their 4-H career. Elements of out-standing record keeping may include initial goal setting, monitoring system of progress towards goals, evaluation of pro-ject learning, 4-H participation and activity notations, project enrollment history, financial records, interpretation of cost and production analysis into future decision making, demonstrated organizational skills, display of performance and/or recognition, creative presentation techniques, computer record printouts, and/or other pertinent data.
We Challenge You
4-Hers should demonstrate personal integrity, lead well-rounded lives and possess a willingness to assume responsibility. They do not need to hold leadership positions currently but be recognized by their peers and adults who work with them as emerging leaders.

Adult Volunteer Award Requirements
On behalf of the Greene County 4-H Program, the 4-H Record Book Evaluation Committee presents awards to our adult volunteers who are nominated by their peers, youth and/or staff.
Honorary Member
To be eligible for this award, the individual must have never been a 4-H member, and someone who supports the Greene County Youth & 4-H Program in his/her per-sonal life.
4-H Alumni
To be eligible for this award, the individual must have been a 4-H member in any county or state who has con-tinued to promote the goals of 4-H and has displayed continuing interest and support to the Greene County Youth & 4-H Program.
Meritorious Service
To be eligible for this award, the individual(s) must have provided a number of years of service & leadership to the Greene County Youth & 4-H Program.
Friend of 4-H
To be eligible for this award, the individual/business must have promoted the goals of 4-H and have supported the Greene County Youth & 4-H Program personally and/or professionally.
