Greetings! TEAM spirits were high during our homecoming activities this past week! A HUGE thank you to all who helped, participated, and encouraged their students to participate in Days of Thunder. Sadly the Staff vs. Student Kickball game on Monday had to be canceled, but we hope that we can plan it again in the future. Manufacturing Day was also canceled on Tuesday, but the turn out for the Video Game Tournament Tuesday evening was great with over 40 students coming to check out the new game room in the Osceola Hall basement (see attached Video Game Tournament.jpg). Wednesday was Dodgeball where seven teams participated with Team “Don’t Worry About It” coming from behind to win it all! Thursday’s Bubble Soccer and Zorb Racing at the LLRC was regarded highly by the students who participated. Friday capped it all off with the Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony for Osceola Hall followed by a free lunch for faculty and staff. Thank you again for all who participated and encouraged others to participate, and a special thank you to the LLRC for allowing Days of Thunder to commandeer the facility for almost two full days this week. (Submitted by Nicole Steele) Special thanks to Nicole Steele and the Days of Thunder Committee for planning the week’s activities. Weekly Updates: This week (September 25 29) students and staff in the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program celebrated National and Iowa Adult Education and Family Literacy week. NCC’s AEL program offers English as a Second Language (ESL), High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), Spanish HSED, STAR Reading Strategies class (HSED and ESL), and Citizenship classes. This week posters were placed across campus and at off-campus venue sites, students wrote paragraphs to their legislators and others about why adult education is important to them and how it has impacted their lives, and instructors held in-class discussions about why students have chosen to attend AEL classes and what their goals are. Instructors and students also brought treats to class to celebrate. Please see the attached document for pictures of the students the AEL program serves. (See attachment AEFL Week.pdf.)
