Greetings from the President
Dear Friends, Have you been by the SFT Library lately? Susan Hunsucker’s Gift Basket Fundraiser committee (photo on Page 4) will continue to have baskets available for a range of suggested donation amounts for at least two more weeks. They are fantastic! We still welcome gift items and baskets to make more, so please drop off your donations at the library. The Lighted Christmas Display and Santa Visit committee has been very busy, too! (Photos on Pages 3 & 4). Stop by anytime to see Charlie Brown and Company. And be sure to come this Friday, December 8th at 6 p.m. for an evening of family fun. See details on Page 2. Thank you, Susan Hunsucker, and Librarian Jenny Markham. All are welcome to gather around the piano and sing holiday favorites with pianist Joyce O’Neal. This event will be a great time to get your FOSFTL membership renewed, get a 50/50 Raffle ticket at just $5 (or get a book of five) (Page 5), and pick up a gift basket. While you are at it, slip us your entry for the Name the Newsletter Contest (Page 5). The winning suggestion will be chosen by an unaffiliated judge and announced at our Holiday Member Social on December 19th, at 6:30 p.m. Details on the Social are on Page 6. Looking ahead, our 2nd Annual Music Variety Show (Page 5) will return on February 8th and will brighten up that sometimes-dreary month. Last year’s show was definitely a hit, so help us again find talented adults who would like to perform for a very supportive audience. AND the 50/50 Raffle winner will be drawn at this program.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events, Ellen

Santa Visit poster, we are still accepting donations of decorative and useful items as well as
baskets. Drop by the Library Lobby and see the showcase-full of gorgeous gifts! Accepting
donations for at least the next two weeks. The suggested donations are LOW, LOW, LOW!
“Name the Newsletter” Contest Underway
Our monthly newsletter needs a catchy name, and YOU are invited to
submit your suggestions! Joe Marusak, a local reporter for the Charlotte
Observer, will be the judge, and the winner will be announced at our Annual
Holiday Social and Book Exchange on December 19th.
Your submission(s) can be emailed to Ellen Dewey up to the deadline of
Midnight, December 15th. The entries will be forwarded to the judge with the contestants’
names omitted.
READY, THINK, ….. SUBMIT!
FOSFTL Fundraiser: 50/50 Raffle
Plenty of Time Left to Get/Distribute Tickets!
The Friends are offering 50/50 raffle tickets for a $5-per- ticket donation. Tickets are stapled in books of five each. It is hoped that each Friends member will take several books to sell to their neighbors and friends. The drawing will be held February 8, 2018 at the Music Variety Show at the Library. The winning ticket holder will receive 50% of all ticket sale proceeds. The winner need not be present at the drawing and will be contacted via information provided on each ticket stub. Chairperson Jean McKinley, 828-478-552, [email protected], will be happy to provide you with as many tickets as you need. FOSFTL members will be in the lobby on a schedule that will be emailed periodically.
2nd Annual Music Variety Show
February 8, 2018, 7PM
Last year’s show was such a popular success that we’re doing it again!
Solo and group performers 18 and older are invited to come out and
PLAY, SING, or BOTH!
Your talent is welcomed and you are assured of a genuinely supportive audience. Last year’s
roster was a sampler of musical styles and tastes, treating the audience to a delightful evening
of enthusiastic music-making. Email Joyce O’Neal [email protected] for questions,
comments, or (we hope) to sign on for our grassroots event of the season!
A Variety of Talent! A Variety of Instruments
A Variety of Voices! A Variety of Styles Variety of Ages!
even A Variety of Refreshments!
Members, renewing members, and new members
are once again invited to our Annual Holiday
Social and this delightful (and delighting!) event
will take place on December 19th, 6:30 p.m.
No pretense of nutrition here—’tis the season for desserts, and
members are requested to bring a plate of their favorite delights for the
delectation of all. And, per the Book Exchange part of the title, attendees
are also requested to bring an unwrapped book (or more if desired), new or
gently used to join its fellows on the book table, ready for adoption.
The big question is: Are you treat-oriented, or book-oriented??? It’s
easy to identify both types; one is inspecting the goods on the goodie table,
and the other is circling the book tables, pondering this choice and that,
perhaps negotiating with spouse or loved one (especially if that other has
drawn a more propitious number…) to pick a desired title.*
Whether it’s the delectable desserts you crave, or the mouth-watering array
of books to be selected, this is the event you will not want to miss!
So be sure to mark your calendar for December 19th at 6:30
and join us in the Community Room of the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Library,
9154 Sherrills Ford Road, Terrell, NC 28682

Branch Services Librarian Jenny Markham
Presented
Photo Storage and Sharing Options
At our November 21st program, Jenny Markham
gave us a variety of options to help us organize and
save our precious photos. The most important point Ms. Markham emphasized was:
Be sure to save your photos in TWO locations. For example, store them online
as well as on a mobile device. Members are always welcome to book an
appointment at the library for individual help. (Bring your device!)
With the opportunities that digital media offer, we have more photos than we
ever had in the past and often we do not know how to manage this digital deluge!
FOL thanks Ms. Markham for her help and expertise, for this program and
throughout the year.
