Worship on September 11 – A Day to
Remember/ A Day Redeemed Ten years ago our coun-
try suffered one of the
most horrific single day
tragedies in our history.
On this day, we will re-
member the tragedy and
remind ourselves what it is
to live as the redeemed. As
part of that future hope, we
are also inviting grandpar-
ents and grandkids to wor-
ship together, and grand-
parents to go to Sunday School with their grandkids.
The schedule looks like this:
7:40am- Prayers of Remembrance
9:00am- Worship: Redemption Rising
10:00am- Sunday School- Grandparents and
grandkids are invited to go to Sunday
School together.
11:00am- Worship: Redemption Rising
―Big Idea‖ Meeting! This Sunday, September 11 is the day of our connect
teams and executive team meetings. Our schedule will
be a bit different this month. Connect teams will not
meet but everyone is invited to attend the Executive
Team meeting at 2pm. We will be discussing the “Big
Ideas” to guide us in 2012.
Thanks for the leadership you are giving to the body
of Christ.
Upcoming 4th Anniversary
AIDS Orphans’ Project In October, 2007, Greggton UMC began supporting
Advance Special #140161 with a Second-Mile offering
on the Second Sunday of each month.
Initiated by the Senior Adult Team, this project is the
outgrowth of a visit to our Church by Jerri and Bill Sa-
vuto, UM Missionaries assigned to Maua Methodist
Hospital in Maua, Kenya. For only $15 per month, one
child can be provided with food, medical care, school
tuition and uniforms.
In 2007, the daily wage in Kenya was $1.00. Each
person in the congregation was asked to contribute
$1.00 to the AIDS Orphans’ Project. (Continued on page 3)

tion table to sign-up and

in the right direction.
Please invite your friends
and we look forward to
learning about Jesus to-
gether.
This past week, our
Sunday school classes
started Feasting on the
Word, a new curriculum
that helps the kids better
understand and learn
about the selected scrip-
ture for the sermons dis-
cussed in worship. As a part of this curriculum, your
children will receive a take-home sheet that gives some
activities that can be done at home to better reinforce the
lessons learned in Sunday school. I hope that you will
find time in your week to go over this information with
your kids. It is a great opportunity to learn about Jesus
together as a family.
Starting on September 18th, we will offer Children’s
Church during the Connect Service. This will be a time
when the kids will sing worship songs, learn a Bible les-
son, do crafts and other activities. Children can be
dropped off before the service starts and picked up after
the Connect service is over. I believe this will be a fun
way for the kids to learn about Jesus on Sunday morn-
ings.
The Children Are Back! New Horizons Preschool is back in session! Good
luck to all the teachers this week!

Ann McCarrell-Kittelson, Arthur Harris, Bonnie Glen, and Giles Maillat. Forty-three heard Kate Hart teach a
thoughtful lesson on Proverbs entitled “Righteousness and Wisdom” to help us to discover the kind of happiness wis-
dom provides which also connected to Psalms 50:14-15.

Memorials for Mack Upchurch
were given by David & Zella Hash,
John & Linda Wood, and the
Alethea Sunday School Class.
Sunday Morning Prayer Teams Forming Prayer teams are forming to help us all being our weeks in the power and
presence of God. Each team will meet once a month- the 1st Sunday, 2nd Sun-
day, etc. The group will meet in the parlor at 8:30am,
pray for the people on the prayer list, pray for our wor-
ship and our week of ministry, and then journey
through the halls and pews praying for every person
who will gather in the hope of Christ. If you are inter-
ested in being part of one of these teams, contact the
church office or fill out the Sunday morning prayer
team online at greggton.org.
Operation Christmas Child Our church will participate again this year in the Show Box Gift Program. By
packing a gift-filled shoe box, you bring joy, hop, and the good news of God’s love
to needy children around the world. The Adult Ministries group will be coordinat-
ing the effort during September and October.
Do you have or can you get small size shoe boxes? The boxes will be filled with
small gifts of toys, school supplies, hygiene articles and other items for children
and young teems. Empty boxes can be brought to the church and stored in Room
205 (the room at the top of the ramp leading from the sanctuary). Let’s get started
and make this our most successful year yet!
(continued from front page)
The very first offering provided aid for 17 children for one month.
In the past four years (almost) Greggton UMC has contributed a
total of $9043.05 helping over 600 children. During those (almost)
four years, we have served as instruments of grace in the lives of
countless children and adults. Talk about a REAL $1.00 Value
Meal!
We should be “happy dancing” as we continue to be in ministry throughout the world. Thank you, GUMC, for
four good years. To learn more about The Advance, go to [email protected].
