GRETA VALLEY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 31 October 2018 GRETA VALLEY SCHOOL SKILLS FOR LIFE! Dear Parents CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to Elsie who came third in the duathlon last week, well done Elsie. PET DAY What a wonderful relaxed Pet Day we had. We have altered the booklet that we are handing out to new parents to read that the Speech Competition and Production are held biannually alternate years and that Pet Day is an annual event. Thank you all so much for the effort and contributions you made to making Pet day a success. We will give out the remaining certificates and prizes at a short school student only assembly this Friday. ECOLOGICAL STUDIES On Monday, Serina from the Hurunui District Council came in to continue with the ecological studies that we have been undertaking. The juniors made toothpaste and cleaning fluid and the seniors made fragrance sachets for drawers and dishwashing liquid. The beauty of these products is that they can all be made from materials that we have in the home that are non-toxic as well as being safe for the environment. Thanks Serina we appreciate your knowledge and skill in this area. FIELDS OF REMEMBRANCE Yesterday several seniors attended the final ‘Fields of Remembrance’ Commemoration event. After standing in the rain, we decided to shout them to morning tea, hot chocolate and chips at Fossil Point. As well as being great ambassadors for us at the Fields of Remembrance Days, a couple of tourists at the café commented on how delightful it was to see such a well-mannered group of children at a café with their teacher. Well done to you all. ATHLETICS Phone 314 3800 - fax 314 3809 - E-Mail: [email protected] Please support our sponsors 1

ATHLETICSNext Tuesday, 6th November, we have athletics with Waikari School in Waikari. A notice has been sent out regarding transport and we thank those who have responded. This is usually a great day out and is the only day out until our end of year activity day when the whole school visits Orana Park for student zoology time with the zookeepers. More to come about this closer to the time.

STAFF RETIREMENTSAs many of you are already aware Sue and myself are retiring at the end of the year. The board is currently advertising the Principal’s position and the junior school position will be advertised early in December.

ASSESSMENTPlease note, our one request for this term, which is during weeks 5, and 6, November 12th to 23rd we ask that you endeavor to ensure your children are at school each day. This will be a critical time for them when we carry out our assessments for the year.
