MEASLES

Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available.

WHAT CAUSES MEASLES?Measles is caused by measles virus called paramyxovirus.

HOW IS MEASLES SPREAD?•Measles is spread through droplet transmission from the nose, throat, and mouth of someone who is infected with the virus. •These droplets are sprayed out when the infected person coughs or sneezes.

PREVENTION & CONTROL

i. Avoid contact with patients, particularly for the first two weeks.ii. Patients should be isolated.iii. Obey rules of personal hygiene.iv. Inoculation against the diseases should be given to young children
