Grove Park Primary School Mr Darren Jones, Headteacher Newsletter No 24 Friday, 15th April 2016
Welcome back!
We hope you had a relaxing and restful holiday and that
your batteries are charged for the busy summer term ahead.
As many of you have seen, we launched our brand new
website during the Easter holidays. Over the summer term
we will be further improving the content to ensure that it is
jam packed full of information and up-to date.
Our new website is much easier to use and is even mobile
friendly. The new design and features are all very exciting
and as we continue to add more content we would love your input! If there is anything you would like to see on
the website, then please let us know by emailing us on, [email protected].
Bumper editions of the newsletter will now be produced fortnightly as we continue to develop the website, keep
an eye on your inbox in two weeks time for an update on all the news from Grove Park.
Vegetable Growing
Before half-term, Oak Class received a very special box
from Innocent Smoothie’s ‘Sow and Grow’ project. In
the box was everything we needed to grow spinach,
peas and cress. This term we have been investigating
what a plant needs
to survive so watch
this space to see
how our vegetables
grow…
Miss Murphy - Year 2 Class Teacher
The Nursery application deadline for September 2016 is fast approaching, if you haven't already
done so then please hand in applications to the office by Friday, 6th May 2016. Thank you.
Hello Mr Twit!
On Wednesday, Year 2 had a visit from a very sinister Mr Twit! We then decided to write our
own recounts of the event for the newsletter. Have a read of these fabulous extracts by
Demetrios and Pieter.
On Wednesday morning we were in Maple Class. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Who
could it be? It creaked open and standing there was the greediest, most repulsive man you
could ever imagine. It was Mr Twit! Demetrios (Oak Class)
On an ordinary Wednesday we were doing literacy. Suddenly there was a “bang, bang, bang”
then the terrifying Mr Twit stormed through the door and said in a gruff voice, “has anyone
seen the vile Mrs Twit? I want to talk to her about that glass eye!” Pieter (Maple Class)
Safety around the school
I am sure many of you
have noticed that the
school surroundings are now in an enforceable 20
mph zone. A big thank you to Pascale Hewitt, mother
of Annalise in Nursery for
all her hard work in ensuring that more is done
for the safety of the children.
There is still more that could be done, so if you have
any ideas or comments please email Pascale on: [email protected]. Thank you.
Polite Reminder!
Please be reminded that parking or stopping on the School Keep Clear signs outside the school is not
permitted. You are at risk of receiving a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). Enforcement of the School
Keep Clear signs will be carried out by Civil Enforcement Officers and by CCTV.
Parking on the School Keep Clear signs increases both congestion and the risk for all students travelling to school by
reducing access and visibility. Thank you for your support in keeping the School Keep Clear signs
parking-free.
The school is now within an enforceable 20 mph zone.
We are still collecting
Sainsbury's Active Kids
vouchers. If you are offered
vouchers at the till in
Sainsbury’s, petrol stations
or online grocery shopping,
please collect them for school. We have a collection box
near the office or you can pop them in the black post-box
in the playground. As a school we can exchange these for
PE and cooking equipment to inspire and equip children
for a healthier life. Thank you!
Summer Production
Guitarists wanted for the
band for this term’s
summer production in
July. If you play electric
guitar and can turn out a
mean lick or two, we
need to hear from you.
We are looking for an electric lead guitarist
and electric bass guitarist to give our
production the wow factor. Please contact
Adam Blackburn on:
[email protected] or 07977 183859.
Yum, yum, in my tum!
