Introduction to the application

Idealized by: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) operated by Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS)

Monitoring and detection of invasion of area and relay to a distant BS.

Basically, detects the motion and records the image and location and relays to the server.

Distinguishing ability between human and other wild animals and environmental vibrations has been targeted.

Sensors use ultra-wide band (UWB) signals – emit and detect very low amplitude and short-voltage impulses.

Ad-hoc network coverage – scattered network around the site.

UWB impulse sensors (MIR), GPS, local signal processing, RF communication transceivers.

Benefits and Potential Applications

High performance – UWB signal used

Omni-directional antenna: Field presence of 360 degrees

Low transmit power (3mW)

Multiple direction detection – no LOS required.

Wide application ranges-habitat monitoring, home automation, smart home/office.

Infrastructure protection, warfare – sniper protection, border control .

Also examined by DOD for various application: 5 star node configuration outdoors with satellite exfiltration and simultaneous internet broadcast.
