Newton Navarro Bridge: thebiggest engineering work ever cons-tructed in Rio Grande do Norte is themain entrance gate to the beachesof the North Littoral.

The biggest engineering workever done in Rio Grande do Norte,the Newton Navarro Bridge, cons-tructed on the Potengi River, con-nects the neighborhoods of Redinha,in the North Zone of the capital, toSantos Reis, in the East Zone. Itwas inaugurated in the second halfof year 2007, guaranteeing thataround 65 thousand vehicles thatused to cross the Igapó Bridgeeveryday, found another way, con-tributing thus to considerably impro-ve traffic jam problems in the area.

Statistic studies indicate that,in its first operational year, the Pontede Todos (the Bridge of Everyone)Newton Navarro will receive 25thousand vehicles per day, speciallybecause of the activities generated

by tourism and the inhabitants of theNorth Zone, about 300 thousandpeople. The bridge's capacity is of60 thousand vehicles per day.

Data from the State Tourist De-partment and the Economical Deve-lopment State Department say thataround 90 tourist and real estateundertakings are being implementedin the Potiguar littoral; most of themexactly located in the North littoral,in areas that received greater valueafter the Bridge was constructed.

With 1.781,60 meters, 55meters high and 22 meters wide,it has a two lane ramp for traffic,two safety lanes and a pedes-trian zone for both ways. The Brid-ge of Everyone Newton Navarrois not highlighted only becauseit is Northeast's biggest infras-tructure work, whose investmentwas estimated in R$ 194 million,it is the Brazil's highest bridge lif-ted by steel cables.

La mayor obra de la inge-niería ya realizada en río gran-de do norte, el puente detodos newton navarro, cons-truido sobre el río potengi,que une los barrios de redi-nha, en la zona norte de lacapital, a santos reis, en lazona este, fue inaugurada enel segundo semestre del2007, garantizando que cercade 65 mil vehículos que dia-riamente transitan sobre elpuente de igapó, encontra-ran otra vía de acceso, con-tribuyendo así la mejora con-siderable al problema del con-gestionamiento en la zona.

Estudios estadísticos in-dican que, en el primer añode funcionamiento, el puen-te de todos newton navarrorecibirá 25 mil vehículos pordía, provenientes principal-mente de las actividades ge-neradas por el turismo y ha-bitantes de la zona norte, adonde residen aproximada-mente 300 mil habitantes.La capacidad del puente, es

de 60 mil vehículos por día.Datos de la secretaria es-

tadual de turismo y la secre-taria estadual de desenvolvi-miento económico revelanque 90 de los emprendimien-tos turísticos e inmobiliariosque están siendo implanta-dos o en fase de implanta-ción en el litoral potiguar, lamayor parte esta localizadaexactamente en el litoralnorte, en zonas que fueronvalorizadas debido a la cons-trucción del nuevo puente.

Con una extensión de1.781,60 metros, 55 metros dealtura y 22 metros de ancho,poseyendo en su rampa dosfajas de trafico, dos fajas de se-guridad y una faja de peatónen cada sentido, el puentepara todos newton navarro nose destaca apenas por ser lamayor obra de infraestructuravial, del nordeste, con una in-versión de R$ 194 millones.Se trata del mayor erguido porcables de acero en altura detodo brasil.

CaranguejadaIt is made of crabs cooked with co-conut and other spices.

Carne-de-solIt is a kind of dry and salty meat,found all over Brazilian Northeas-tern Region. It is also called Carnedo Ceará, Carne do Sertão, andCarne de Vento.

CocadaCandy made of coconut, with whiteor dark sugar, cut to squared orrounded frames. Cocada is one ofthe oldest and most consumed can-dies in Brazil.

CuscuzIt is made of manioc flour, seaso-ned with salt and coconut. It iseaten with sugar or butter, in break-fast or supper meals.

Green BeansThey are served with manioc flouror regional butter called ‘manteigado sertão’.

TapiocaIt is a kind of sweet or salty panca-ke made of manioc. Many times itis seasoned with coconut.

Lingüiça do SertãoIt is a typical sausage from the In-lands of Northeastern Region.

PaçocaIt is made of ‘carne de sol’ meatcut to threads, mixed up with ma-nioc flour and onions.

Located in the building ofthe old Capitania dos Portos,constructed last century, the Ca-pitania das Artes is an importantcultural center, administered byNatal's City Hall. The buildingtook long than it should to beconsidered a historical patrimony,and this made its refurbishing al-most impossible. Only its façade,which portraits an architectonicconception from the Neoclassicline, can be completely restored.Behind it, a new building of con-temporary style was construc-ted, and the Fundação Capitaniadas Artes created.

The project was only comple-

tely finished in 1992, having as itsmain purpose to support and moti-vate the work of potiguar artists.Paintings, sculptures and art pie-ces of regional and national artistsare constantly being exhibited inthe place. There is also this cons-tant exhibition of the Capitania'sown collection, emphasizing thatmost of its pieces was donated byartists who once exhibited there.

It is worth the visit to Capi-tania das Artes not only by itsbeauty and history, but also byall culture the tourist can acquirefrom them. It has free entranceand it is open from Monday to Fri-day from 8am to 6pm.

El proyecto solo fue to-talmente concretizado en1992, teniendo como princi-pal objetivo, apoyar e incen-tivar el trabajo de los artis-tas potiguares. Tanto queperiódicamente son realiza-dos en el establecimiento,

exposiciones de pintura, es-culturas y objetos de arte denombres regionales y nacio-nales. Aun hay, exposicio-nes fijas de la propia capi-tanía, la mayoría de obrasdonadas por los artistas queya tuvieron sus trabajos ex-puestos en el predio.
